Xiaomi redmi note 8 pro camera settings

Sample pictures

I will make a reservation in advance, so far at this stage all smartphones work on a standard camera from the firmware in maximum quality mode. No Google camera was installed. The second thing to keep in mind is that the pictures below were taken with the firmware out of the box, so far, I personally have not received any updates on the Note 8. If the firmware is updated in the future, I will definitely indicate this in future comparisons of smartphones.

Let’s start, how does Redmi Note 8 Pro shoot in the easiest modes for cameras, in daylight, indoors, shooting from a stationary state, in comparison with Redmi K20, all photos are clickable:

The result is before my eyes, all the words are superfluous. If in ordinary photographs everything is still more or less the same, then the difference in the crop is already noticeable. In Note 8 Pro, cropped shots show better sharpness, better convey surface texture, the picture is not blurry, as on the 48 megapixel IMX586 module. Color rendition plus minus is the same, I can’t find fault. Yes, only in some places the 48 megapixel module Redmi K20 slightly darkens the colors, most of all this is noticeable in the last picture.

Continuing the theme of color rendition, I see that in reality the grass is green-yellow, while the K20 turned out to be more green:

In the crop, again, blurring of the 49 Mp module is clearly striking, while the 65 Mp sensor shows better sharpness and detail.

Still, 64MP does not darken photos like 48MP does. Escalator stairs have better detail and do not wash out into blackout with loss of surface texture and detail:

Portrait mode is also better implemented in Note 8, you can see that artificial intelligence processes the background better, focusing on the car mirror, clickable:

In macro shooting, due to the sensor allocated for this case, the images from Redmi Note 8 are much better:

In macro shooting, the color reproduction is better, I hope you can see how the glass of the Redmi K20 turns yellow? Again, pay attention to the clarity of the picture, the structure of the flower hollow is visible, everything is not as blurry as in the 48 megapixel module.

Well, let’s move on to complicated shooting conditions, when there is already insufficient illumination outside. Let’s see how the 64-megapixel Samsung Isocell Bright GM2 looks like, the photos are clickable:

It can be seen that in low light conditions, the raw firmware of Note 8 affects, showing almost equal results with the competitor. In the crop, you can see a better picture, Note 8 draws out dark places here, you can see a brown texture around the mirror, that is, better detail.

Then there will be comparisons with the younger version, Redmi Note 7, all with the same 48 megapixel sensor (this is S5KGM1). Note that in the last generation, the Pro version did not differ in anything (in terms of image quality) in cameras from the usual one, in contrast to the 8th series. There the Sony IMX586 was on the 7 Pro, while the S5KGM1 was on a simple 7ke, the results of the images are very close, except that the color reproduction from Sony is better. I will not cite too much here, because it makes no sense. All photos are clickable:

Well, can you see the difference? I see. The texture of the pillar is more real, more like what is seen with the eyes. Note 7 does not blur the picture very much, it also makes the colors more faded, lighter. If the best sharpness in the pillar photo is not so noticeable with the Note 8, look for the trees in the background for sharperness and colors at a higher level.

Here is another example, when Note 7 loses in color rendition, this is especially evident in each image in green. Globe inscriptions are more voluminous and sharper in Note 8:

In macro shooting, Note 8 again tears up a competitor, look at what detail it has and what kind of soap the Note 7 has:

But in this night mode, Note 8 merges Note 7, I suppose, due to the raw firmware, and in the future this matter will be corrected:

You can see how the billboard with advertising near the Samsung sensor is overexposed and what a clear picture is in the IMX586. In addition, Note 7 is also sharper on the sign with the name of the bank, as is the poster with the clock. An unfortunate scene for the hero of today’s review. Apparently AI still can’t handle multiple light sources well in low-light scenes.

And here is another photo at night, here Note 8 has completely rehabilitated and shows the best result in the photo with one light source:

We see that Note 7 has blurred the picture again, namely, the blue pipe has the worst surface corrugation, especially from above, where the light source is too close, here it generally merged. The wall is also worse, the color is far from real. In this scene, Note 8’s camera stretched out the dark wall and its texture.

xiaomi, redmi, note, adjust, camera

In low light mode, Redmi Note 8 Pro, due to raw firmware, loses to Redmi Note 7 Pro and shows, oddly enough, similar results with Redmi K20.

Redmi Note 8 Pro camera review: sample pictures, videos, comparison of Note 8 Pro cameras with 48 MP and the previous version.

So, as I promised, there will be a review on the 64 megapixel camera capabilities of the Redmi Note 8 Pro smartphone. Finally, I got my hands on it and I want to show you sample photos taken with this new smartphone. All photos are clickable, you can view the photos in detail in a new window. For me personally, the camera in the smartphone plays one of the last roles, but since this is so important for you, here you go.

10/16/2019 I did a test of the Samsung Galaxy M30s camera, where there were comparisons with the Note 8 Pro camera, you can familiarize yourself.

READ  Connecting an IP camera via Wi-Fi

I have Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi K20 and Redmi Note 7 Pro in my hands for today. I once did a full review on the Redmi K20 Pro, which I really liked. So, the difference in cameras between Redmi K20 and its Pro version is only in the presence of laser autofocus in the latter. As far as I remember, when I had it in my hands, the laser autofocus was there, while in the regular version, apparently it is not. And so, in all other parameters, the cameras are the same in theory. Although, I’m not sure, but most likely the lenses are different there, but these are my personal guesses. Basically, this is the same Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro, everything is the same here, by the way, I also really liked the Mi 9T Pro. They have exactly the same cameras, so we can assume that we are comparing immediately with two equivalent phones.

In other words, so as not to confuse you, I have two smartphones with the same 48MP camera. Redmi K20 and Redmi Note 7 Pro. Both 48 megapixel modules in both gadgets are Sony IMX586, the only difference is in the software part, which is also similar, because there is only one manufacturer. We will compare the Note 8 Pro camera with them.

Many are sure that the 64 megapixel camera in Note 8 Pro is just a marketing ploy and will not give anything in practice. Well, let’s see how true this statement is.

To begin with, let me remind you the composition of the cameras of all these devices, in the K20 we have three modules:

  • Main 48 MP, f / 1.8 aperture, 26 mm matrix size, 0.8 micron pixel size, PDAF;
  • Telephoto 8 MP, f / 2.4, 53 mm, 1/4 ″, 1.12 micron, PDAF, 2x optical zoom;
  • Wide angle 13 MP, f / 2.4, 12 mm, 1/3 ″, 1.12 micron.

Whereas in Redmi Note 7 Pro there are only 2 modules:

  • Main 48 MP, f / 1.8, 0.8 micron, PDAF;
  • 5 MP scene depth sensor, f / 2.2.

Well, in the hero of this review. Redmi Note 8 Pro. 4 sensors are installed, the main of which is the latest joint development of Samsung and Xiaomi, the Samsung Isocell Bright GM2 sensor:

  • Main camera 64 MP, f / 1.8, 0.8 micron, PDAF;
  • 8MP wide angle, f / 2.2, 13mm sensor, 1.12 micron;
  • Macro camera 2 MP, f / 2.4, 1.75 microns;
  • Scene depth sensor 2 Mp, f / 2.4, 1.75 micron.

Sample video

Stabilization is complete crap on both smartphones, while the overall picture quality is noticeably better on Note 8. Agree. The color rendition is better on Note 8, the green color is green here and does not give off yellowness, as you have already seen in the examples of the pictures. Sharpness, detail, everything is better with Redmi Note 8 Pro. I hope I was able to show you why the new 64-megapixel camera is better and that it is worth taking the Pro version of the smartphone, and not the simple one, which is not much different from the 7th generation of this line.

Video setup

Now let’s move on to setting up video recording. There are not many points here, but they are still worth analyzing.

We set the video quality to Full HD 1080. Of course, as a result, the video will take up more space in the device’s memory, but it’s worth it.

This is a moot point. Continuous focusing is best chosen during daytime or in good light. If you are shooting something in a dimly lit place, the Focus will constantly switch to the brightest side, and the desired subject may darken. Therefore, manual focus is sometimes better.

Choosing the aspect ratio

First, go to the camera settings: launch the camera, click on “Modes”, click on the gear in the upper right corner.

Scroll down, look for “Frame format”. Select “16: 9”. In this format, the photo will fill the entire screen of the smartphone.

Setting up still images

Sound problem

Low-end devices like 4a, 5a have a sound problem. This is a problem with noise reduction, or rather with a noise canceling microphone. The sound on the video becomes just awful, but it can be corrected by recordings. Smart people who use Redmi phones have come up with patches and the like a long time ago, but for this you need to unlock the bootloader, get root rights, and this is a completely different story. Plus, you’ll need a laptop or computer. It’s good that the state employee Redmi 5 plus did not fall under the noise control curve, otherwise the state employees would lose interest.

Other applications

By the way, some users often complain about the application itself. Google Camera is especially popular now, and it is worth noting that the result is really there. The pictures are much better, but this is a method only for advanced users, ordinary users should not try, because a lot of manipulations need to be done, and the smartphone can be turned into a brick. But if you do everything right, then the result will surprise you, although you still won’t be able to reach the mi6 level.

There are many other apps with additional filters and settings. One of these is Open Camera, in which you can also achieve good quality.

We expose quality

Go to the settings again, scroll down and see the item “Photo quality”. Here we select “High”. This item will give the best detail (when you enlarge the image, you can see small details).

How to set up and improve the camera on Xiaomi

Xiaomi smartphones are among the most popular today. These devices have an excellent combination of price and characteristics, because they have good hardware and pretty good optics in the cameras. But in budget smartphones with a camera there are small flaws, and the quality is sometimes not very pleasing. In this article, we will talk about how to improve the camera on Xiaomi.

Adjusting exposure, contrast, etc.

In the “Camera settings” menu, at the very bottom there are the following items:

  • elimination of flicker;
  • exposure mode;
  • contrast;
  • saturation;
  • sharpness.

With their help, you can also improve the quality of the photo. Let’s start in order.

There are several modes: off, 50Hz, 60Hz, auto. The default is “50Hz”, but it would be better to set “Auto”. This parameter only affects very bright objects such as a light bulb. Therefore, the quality will not change much.

The exposure in cameras on Xiaomi can be averaged, center-weighted, spot. The last two are the most popular. Center-weighted is the default, and it adjusts brightness based on the focus of the photo. In general, the photo turns out to be slightly washed out, and if you use a spot exposure, the photo will become a little richer. This is good for photographing highly contrasting subjects. Colors will look richer and more colorful.

READ  How to turn off offline mode on a Samsung phone

Contrast is a kind of saturation. The default is medium, but can be increased to “High”.

The colors will acquire a pleasant shade, the photo will be saturated and not washed out. You should not overdo it with the value, because then the photo will be very colored and darkened.

Saturation speaks for itself. The main thing is not to overdo it, as with contrast, otherwise the colors will be highly toxic and unnatural.

If you set the sharpness to minimum, the picture will turn out to be slightly blurred, and small details will be very difficult to see. Extremely high sharpness will turn the photo into a set of pixels, which will make the photo look ugly. For example, a portrait will no longer look natural.

3, 4, 5 points are adjusted purely individually for your taste. You need to try and experiment, but you should not flirt, otherwise the photo will turn out to be very ugly. We also note that this manual is suitable for almost all Xiaomi smartphones (especially the note series).

How to install Google Camera on Redmi Note 8 Pro

After the release of Redmi Note 8 Pro, many users were upset because it contains a chip from Mediatek, which means that you cannot put your favorite Google camera on it. Or is it possible? Now we will tell you how to put a Google camera on Redmi Note 8 Pro in 5 minutes, and even without Root.

First, download two files to your Redmi Note 8 Pro:

  • first file. GCam
  • the second file is a config that will allow the camera to work correctly

Next, you need to open the built-in “Explorer” application and select the general section of the system in it. You can also use a third-party application, the essence of this will not change.

This is where the GCam folder should be created.

After that, open the “Download” folder and copy the previously downloaded config. It will have the following name: wyroczen_rn8pro_3.

It needs to be moved to the created Configs folder.

Next, you need to install the downloaded GCam application. If during the installation process you need to issue permissions, do it.

Then run GCam and also grant all requested permissions.

After that, several times click on the black area between the shutter button and the gallery transition icon.

Next, confirm that you want to restore the downloaded config, and use the Google camera for your pleasure on Redmi Note 8 Pro.

Introduction of new features in MIUI 8

The photo editor in MIUI 8 is not an ordinary tool now. The developers have added more new abilities and resources for photo configurations and. Apart from the usual photo editor for everyone, now edit yours too. You can overlay the text on your tape, add a fun effect, crop it or add a music track. The editor is really useful, you can make wonderful music right on your own device and share it with your friends.

A sudden decision with a screenshot of who would have thought that it could be made even more convenient and useful. Well what can be done better in this function? This can be conventionally referred to as a “long screenshot”. After you have taken a photo, it will float at the top of the page. If desired, you can edit it, for example, add text with explanations and expand it, you can also edit it even while it is still swimming. Animation with floating screenshot. It is something!

I think everyone understands about a similar function on an Apple or Samsung phone. But MIUI 8’s floating shortcut menu icon is much easier to organize than you might think. It allows you to have quick access to 5 shortcuts and configure access to any hidden applications. If you DO NOT use this menu for more than 2 seconds, it will become almost transparent so as not to interfere with you. You can configure this setting in the Options menu. Additional characteristics. context menu.

Above we have already mentioned the “Second Space” functions, but now we will take a closer look at the new product. This is an opportunity to create multiple spaces for different users. Something like the Windows system on your computer. 2nd place can contain completely different applications and elements that you customize. To switch between places, it is enough to select a user and a password when the server is locked.

Cloning applications. also one of the new products, which is already being registered, and now about it in detail. With MIUI 8, you can now make another copy of applications, for example, to use 2 accounts in social networks. The clone button is in the lower left corner and is indicated by a yellowish icon. Thus, with the help of cloning, you can stay in your personal account and manage your work immediately.

There is also an integrated translator. At this point, it can translate up to 7 languages, among which are British, Chinese, Japanese, French, Spanish, Germanic and Korean. But virtually all languages will be translated into Chinese. Added an application for solving complex mathematical problems.

The highlight and main decoration of MIUI 8, in our opinion, is the application for scanning and editing documents. You can edit or crop the document and even extract text from it, albeit only in one language. And yet, the function gives you many options for processing your own documents just on the way to work.

Improving quality on Xiaomi

Everything is clear from the photo, it remains to adjust the quality. We go into the “Camera”. switch to. “Modes”. gears in the upper corner.

  • Quality. choose Full HD, if you have a “4K” item, dad.
  • Focus mode. two options, touch or “CAF”. “CAF”. this is a continuous Focus on the object, it does not work perfectly on Xiaomi, you can try two options, we recommend “Touch”.

All of these methods work on all MIUI-enabled devices: Xiaomi Mi, Mi Max, Redmi, Redmi Note, etc.

Manual camera mode on Xiaomi

We have selected rational options for the photo, now let’s talk about the “Manual mode” in the Xiaomi camera.

Manual mode allows you to adjust the pure white and ISO. This mode is great for low light conditions.

  • ISO. light sensitivity, has several options to choose from. The lower the value, the darker the photo will turn out, the larger, the brighter, and the more “noise” appears.
  • White balance can be manually selected for clearer color reproduction.

All options must be selected personally, according to the situation.

How to improve the Xiaomi camera

Before that, it should be said that the camera options are necessary exclusively in the menu of the “Camera” itself.

If you open the “Camera”, and something “clinks” at you, do not be alarmed, the lens works.

We open the “Camera“. “Modes”. gears in the upper corner.

In the section “Taking photos” we are interested in the following areas:

  • Aspect ratio;
  • Photo quality.

Ratio. we set “Standard 4: 3”. if you specify “Wide 16: 9”, then the camera uses the upper and lower parts of the matrix and reduces the image size.

Photo quality. we set “High”, by default, it can be “average”.

Then we run over to the “Additional” section.

Areas of interest in this section:

Exposure mode. three options are available “Average”, “Center-weighted” and “Spot”.

  • “Average” distributes brightness moderately throughout the frame.
  • Center-weighted distributes brightness from the focal point and fades to the edges of the frame.
  • “Spot” distributes the spot brightness before the subject. This mode is great to use if your subject has a very catchy background.

Other areas, such as “Contrast”, “Saturation”, “Sharpness”, must be selected manually, individually for each device.

Performance

Not so long ago, the announced SoC MediaTek Helio G90T is made using a 12nm process technology. This is an update to the Snapdragon 660 14nm microprocessor on Redmi Note 7, but still the least energy efficient and technologically advanced microprocessor compared to Qualcomm’s 10nm microprocessor.

Inside. 8 cores. These are two massive Cortex-A76 units with a 2.05 GHz setting, as well as 6 energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores operating at 2 GHz frequencies. According to the schedule, the Mali-G76 MC4 coprocessor responds. Plus, support for HyperEngine technology is announced, which provides the best gaming performance and supports wireless data transfer over Wi-Fi and LTE communication channels. In addition, there can be a connection to two Wi-Fi at once, which was previously.

Performance test results in benchmarks comparison with competitors:

Redmi Note 8 Pro Google Pixel 3 (Snapdragon 845) Samsung A60 (Snapdragon 675) Realme XT (Snapdragon 712)
AnTuTu 7 224759 233699 170102 185193
GFX 3.1 Manhattan graphics test (1080p behind the scenes) 29 57 fifteen 26
GFX 3.1 Manhattan Graphics Test (1080p on display) 24 55 13 23
GFX 3.1 Graphics Test Auto Scene (On Display) fourteen 33 7.3 13
3DMark SSE 3.1 2439 3647 1123 2284

As expected, the Helio G90T with its schedule lags behind the indescribably massive Adreno 630 on Snapdragon 845, but outstrips its own direct rivals in the face of Snapdragon 712, Snapdragon 675, and that’s great. Even at peak loads Redmi Note 8 Pro stays warm, strong message no.

Display

Redmi Note 8 Pro is equipped with an LCD panel with a small notch on top; diagonal. 6.53 inches resolution. 2340 × 1080. Above there is a protective glass Gorilla Glass 5, the declared support for HDR, which is rarely found in this sector.

Screen test results with 100 backlight:

  • Brightness of pure white: 460 cd / m2 in manual mode, 640 cd / m2. in automatic
  • Brightness of dark: 0.347 cd / m2 in manual mode, 0.486 cd / m2. in automatic
  • Contrast: 1326: 1 in manual mode, 1317: 1.in automatic

Brightness. at a height, the contrast is also very solid. But in terms of color reproduction, the screen is weak. In the “default” mode, the DeltaE color rendition error was 6.8 with the largest deviation of 12.7, the display shows a pronounced departure in cool tones. When you install a “warm” preset, the error drops to 5.7, but this is still inaccurate.

In terms of brightness and contrast, the Redmi Note 8 Pro monitor is not bad, but in terms of color reproduction it is worse than its competitors. In general, most users will NOT see the problem with color, but you should know that it takes place.

Setting the quality of photos on Xiaomi

First, click on the “Photo Quality” button and select “Highest”. This will reduce the compression when saving the photo, which means it will make the images higher quality and more detailed.

The “Frame format” item is also more important. There are two options to choose from:

  • Standard 4: 3;
  • Wide 16: 9.

There is no universal advice on what specific format to choose and everyone sets it at their discretion. As a standard, it allows you to use the entire matrix for creating a picture. So, having a 16 MP camera, you will get a photo with a conscientious resolution of 16 MP, but the widescreen mode simply does not use the upper and lower parts of the matrix, which leads to an increase in size, but with all this, the photos fit perfectly into the resolution of modern phones and laptop monitors without the need for additional cropping.

At the very bottom of the menu there is another 4 pt: exposure modes, contrast, saturation and sharpness.

The metering setting can be averaged, center-weighted, and spot.

With averaged metering, the brightness of all parts of the frame is taken into account equally.

Center-weighted mode assumes the calculation of brightness based on the point of the point at the point of smooth fading to the edges of the image.

Point mode. frozen frame brightness at the rate of 1-5% of the matrix size.

The last two options are more popular. center-weighted and spot.

As for contrast, saturation and sharpness. you need to try various options and slow down on the one that suits you personally.

You can also switch shooting from automatic to manual. This will allow you, without the help of others, to set the balance of snow-white, ISO and camera shutter speed.

This method is not bad when shooting in insufficient lighting, it allows you to make better photo quality, but it also has several drawbacks:

  • By lowering the ISO, you can get less noise in the photo, but with all this, the shutter speed of the drawings will increase if you use the camera without any support, for example, a tripod.
  • For photos in different criteria, you will have to change options, which slows down the process of each shooting. With all this, so that there are no blurred objects in the photo, during shooting they must be static, if this is, of course, and not an artistic plan of the photographer.
