Cameras

In the Redmi Note 8, the company relies on a main quad-camera module as well as a front-facing camera. The main photo sensor in the rear module is the Samsung GM1. It has 48MP resolution, f / 1.75 aperture and 0.8μm pixel size. There is also a 2MP depth sensor, a macro lens and an 8MP f / 2.2 wide-angle sensor with a 180-degree viewing angle.

Samsung GM1 uses a technique to combine four closely spaced pixels into one. As a result, image sensitivity and detail are improved. The resolution is reduced to 12 MP. This technology works great and produces exciting footage. In low light conditions in the environment, GM1 does not work perfectly.

The front camera of Redmi Note 8 is 13-megapixel. She makes great images during the day. Its level of detail and sharpness is not as good as that of the main camera.

The quality of the images is satisfactory. You can post your selfie to social media immediately.

You need to highlight excellent detail thanks to the high pixel density of 409 ppi. Excellent contrast makes the picture on the screen as juicy as possible. Wide viewing angles allow viewing the image from a wide variety of angles. Also, the display is well protected with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5. There are several modes of use to choose the optimal color gamut. There is an eye protection mode here. Games and videos look great on this screen.

Connection

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 has support for Wi-Fi wireless networks, namely 2.4 and 5 GHz frequencies. The built-in infrared port gives an excellent opportunity to control various equipment (TVs, consoles, air conditioners, etc.) from the telephone. Available from navigation systems are Dual GPS, Beidou, A-GPS and GLONASS. A USB Type-C connector is used to connect the charger. Bluetooth 5.0 is also present to exchange different files with other users over the air. Supported carrier networks 2G, 3G and 4G.

Redmi Note 8 review: the best for the money, but not without flaws

The middle of January this year was marked by the appearance on the market of the first smartphone with a 48 megapixel camera. Redmi Note 7. Only seven months have passed and a receiver appears on the market. Note 8, with practically similar characteristics, but at the same time it has already received as many as four sensors of the main camera and some others improvement.

Screen

The 6.3-inch IPS panel has a Full HD resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels) and an aspect ratio of 19.5: 9. The display is able to display 84% of the NTSC color gamut, in addition, the company received a certificate from TÜV Rheinland, which indicates a low level of blue light.

It is stated that the display is protected by glass with Gorilla Glass 5, but after a week of wearing the smartphone in different s, small scratches appeared on it, noticeable at a certain angle.

A protective film or glass for those who like to keep the original look of the smartphone will not be a superfluous accessory.

Otherwise, I have no complaints about this element of the Note 8. Auto brightness adjustment works quite logically, the maximum brightness will not force you to peer at the screen even in bright sunlight, and the minimum brightness will not blind your eyes at night. Oleophobic coating is present on the screen.

In the settings it is possible to hide the cutout for the front camera and the manufacturer left the option to adjust the color temperature as you wish, and with the update of the shell to MIUI 11, a dark theme appeared.

Appearance

Let’s start with the dimensions, compared to its predecessor, the smartphone has not really “recovered”: 190 grams, versus 186. In height, it even decreased to 158.3 mm, against 159.21 mm (Note 7), while the width and thickness are almost identical (the first figure belongs to Note 8): 75.3 mm / 75.21 mm and 8.35 mm / 8.1 mm.

If you look at the front panel, then it does not stand out in anything special, the thin frames on the sides, which are quite familiar already in 2019, turn into a teardrop-shaped cutout for the front camera on top. On the left side of it there is an event indicator that glows only in white, and on the right there are proximity / lighting sensors.

At the bottom, the frame is slightly thicker, into which the “Redmi” logo has been inserted, which is also quite usual since the detachment of this sub-brand, from Xiaomi.

The back panel is the first and main reason for using the case that comes with the smartphone:

  • firstly, it is glass (2.5D) and glossy, so it collects fingerprints quite willingly, and the risks of getting a growing “spider web” from cracks when falling are quite large;
  • secondly, the protruding main camera. At this point, the smartphone increases in thickness to 11 mm and the presence of small protrusions in the complete case protects this important element from scratches;
  • thirdly, in addition to the company logo below, there are a large number of inscriptions and putting on “protection” they become less noticeable to the eye.

On the sides are the volume control keys, as well as the on / off smartphone (on the right), while the SIM and memory card tray (separate slot) is on the left.

Bottom side from left to right: speaker, USB Type-C port, microphone and 3.5 mm jack, and on top there is an infrared port and another microphone for noise cancellation.

As for the ergonomics of the smartphone, the control keys and the fingerprint scanner are placed in convenient places and I don’t need to reach them. Of course, the weight is immediately felt, but given the presence of a 4000 mAh battery, there is no escape from this.

Performance

Unlike Redmi Note 7, which was delivered to the market with the already popular, but rather “ancient” processor. Snapdragon 660, Note 8 is equipped with a Snapdragon 665 processor. These are the same 8 cores, only with a maximum clock frequency of not 2.2 GHz. and 2.0 GHz, but the processor is made according to the 11-nm process technology (the 660 has 14-nm), and the graphics core has also been updated, now it is Adreno 610.

Since the differences between the two “stones” are not particularly striking, then you should not count on a strong increase in performance. It is worth noting that the interface is periodically sent to “think in what form it will be better for you” (apparently due to the temporary dampness of MIUI and the device itself), and in the most popular games, as in the case of the Snapdragon 660, there are no special problems.

In my case, the minimum: 3 GB of RAM (LPDDR4X), as well as 32 GB of storage (UFS 2.1), but you can choose combinations of 4 GB 64 GB, or even 6 GB 128 GB.

If we consider in particular the sensational Call of Duty: Mobile, then unlike the Mi A2 with Snapdragon 660, which has an average maximum graphics level, in Note 8 you can set the graphics to the highest level. But you can play comfortably only when you select the same medium settings as the old Mi A2. Because otherwise, the “Battle Royale” mode turns into a slideshow with constant freezes and slowdowns.

In addition, now I see such a problem. when the game starts, the connection to the server disappears, an attempt to reconnect does not work, but if at the same time go from the game to the applications menu in the background and immediately return to the game, then the connection to the server is restored.

Call of Duty: Mobile server connection problem

Traditionally, during the battery test, I run World of Tanks: Blitz and at high settings, for more than 5 hours of play, the FPS did not drop below 40.

Compared to the Mi A2, which I used before, the Note 8 has one important advantage. the proximity / lighting sensors, as well as the speaker are on one side, and when you pick up a smartphone to play, you will not block the sound, or peer into the screen from for a decrease in brightness when the light sensor is covered (if automatic brightness control is turned on).

Disadvantages of Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 pro. But in spite of them I love this phone! Fell in love with him at first sight and really kicks when I take him in my hands.

Price category. I considered the phone no more than 25,000 rubles.

Android. Before that, I always had androids, one iPhone and one iPad. When switching from one system to another, contacts, dates, etc. are saved. I use Google services, on Android they are enabled by default, but on the iPhone you have to download, but even then their work is limited. The iPhone was not convenient for me in principle.

Battery capacity. This phone is 4500A. This is the highest in this price category.

Memory capacity 128 GB. Yes, there are on other phones, but the price there also increases significantly.

8 МИНУСОВ XIAOMI REDMI NOTE 8

Camera. Probably it was necessary to indicate on the 3rd place. The camera is very important to me. Here 64MP, but this is the maximum and “optional”. The default camera is 48MP, you have to switch to 64MP manually. Only works on external camera.

What I realized in the process of using?

I had to cut the SIM card for this phone. By the way, not everywhere they do it for free !! Euroset, Beeline. 300RUB. In MTS, since I have MTS. is free.

This phone is much larger than I had before. Such a large screen is pleasant to use. But it is not always convenient to do this with one hand. The phone provides the One-handed operation option. The screen shifts to the direction you want and becomes easier to control.

The phone itself is streamlined and quite slippery.

Also, the camera requires caution, for some reason it protrudes strongly forward and I’m afraid to scratch it, unsuccessfully putting it on a rough surface. You have to choose where to put it.

The size does not allow wearing it in jeans, and even in trousers with large s on the lock. You put it down, but it will be difficult to bend over. I have a small child and I have to bend over often. Nor will I put it in a jacket without a I’m afraid to drop it. And not every jacket can fit.

I don’t use the button with the imprint (the touch circle near the camera), and I didn’t immediately understand what it was and what it was for. Face ID, on the other hand, is a pleasure. The phone quickly recognizes the face. But for some reason, if the message has just arrived, it does not recognize it, it only requires a password.

Built-in Redmi apps duplicate Google apps. I don’t use them. I liked the built-in screen recorder. You can “screen” video or stories from the screen, but you cannot add your voice to this recording.

I also don’t like that the phone offers me to download applications, showing extra icons. It’s only in the Others folder.

I also had to work hard, search in the settings to disable the news feed in the browser.

I didn’t like the browser, I downloaded Chrome, but third-party links always open in the browser. Maybe I didn’t figure out the settings, but so far I haven’t found how to completely switch to Chrom.

Plus, after watching my personal videos in the gallery, I get ads too! This initially did not exist, it appeared later. Again, it may be in the settings, but so far I have not found how to fix it.

In general, on all Redmi devices, ads are released wherever possible by default and you have to figure out where to disable it. It is not always intuitively clear where to disable this.

I still don’t like that the pictures are mixed. When I need to insert photos from the gallery, they may not be in chronological order and I need to search. When editing, a take of the photo is saved.

The headphone jack is located at the bottom, for me personally it is rather unusual.

Since the phone has 2 words for SIM cards.

The first days there were confusion about the choice of a SIM card. Comrades at MTS helped to set up when they cut the SIM card. You need to set in the settings which card is the main one, or every time you will make a choice where to make calls or send SMS.

The camera makes the colors brighter. Depends on lighting. Sometimes real shades, sometimes it lies a lot. Increases pigmentation on the face during a Whats up video call.

In any case, lighting has a HUGE impact on the quality of photos.!

Photos are beautiful, bright, but there are nuances. For example, you need to catch clarity when photographing text. The camera itself defines clear zones, and blurs around the edges. You have to look for the right angle.

These settings are good when photographing three-dimensional objects and people.

It’s the same with macro photography. As for macro photography of a face: the camera sometimes blurs, or vice versa, unnecessarily emphasizes the relief and color of the skin, including enhances pigmentation. You can take a good photo, but you need to look for light, angle, make a lot of takes.

On the 64MP camera, the slightest movement and the photo is smeared. It is difficult to take pictures of children. 48MP better stabilization.

Comparison of 48MP and 64MP cameras.

Front camera photo

Here, too, lighting is of great importance:

  • Photo in daylight near the window

As if photographed on different phones. We can conclude that the quality of the final image also depends a lot on the photographer himself.!

Portrait mode. I didn’t like it at all, very much like cheap graphics. Example:

I also do not use the manual setting mode. I tried it, it loads the phone for a long time and nothing good comes out of such photos.

Advantages of Redmi Note 8 pro

All apps work fine. The amount of memory for me is just limitless.

I really like that the top pop-up menu has a lot of buttons, you can very quickly configure the necessary options.

The battery lasts for a long time: 1.5.2 days with normal use. Charging is lightning fast! Literally an hour. one and a half and already 100%.

Just in love with the DIGITAL WELL-BEING feature!

It allows you to turn off the applications that most often distract your attention. Attention mode.

You can set a timer for applications so as not to sit, for example, more than 3 hours a day on Instagram. After the time expires, the application becomes inactive.

This function can turn on gray tones when you set the rest mode, as well as “go to bed” himself, I have it at 23:30, and wakes up at 8:00.

I also like Explorer. All files are arranged in folders, just like on a computer. Very convenient, but there are also pop-up ads:

Despite the fact that I have listed a sufficient number of shortcomings, for the most part these are trifles, it does not annoy me at all. Although no, advertising on the phone is very disliked.

I really like my phone number, I quickly adapted to its features. The phone has enough advantages to make a choice in favor of it.

Specifications Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 2021

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 2021 smartphone is codenamed Biloba. Release date. May 24, 2021.

In 2021, Xiaomi decided to reissue the Redmi Note 8, replacing the processor: instead of Qualcomm Snapdragon 665, they installed MediaTek Helio G85. A strange decision, since the “dragons” have always been better than the MTK. Otherwise, the characteristics have not changed: the same IPS display, the same quad camera and the absence of an NFC module for contactless payment.

The phone meets all modern standards, as it has a dual-band Wi-Fi 5 transmitter, a capacious 4000 mAh battery and support for fast charging, as well as a stylish appearance due to a glass back panel. There is a separate slot for microSD memory cards, so you can safely take the basic configuration and not worry about free space.

It is worth noting that the phone will be re-released in all markets: including global, Chinese and Indian. Therefore, there will be no problems with the supported LTE frequencies.

Frame

The bezel around the display in the refreshed 2021 Redmi Note 8 is made of durable and reliable plastic. And the back panel is made of glass with a special water-repellent P2i Nano coating. As usual, there are several colors available. On the back panel there is a block of rear cameras, as well as a fingerprint scanner in the form of a classic photocell.

81.7% of the body is occupied by the display, and the front camera is located in a small drop in the middle. Above it are light and proximity sensors, as well as a slot for the earpiece. The bottom end is occupied by a USB Type-C connector for charging, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a speaker and a microphone. The upper end is occupied by an additional microphone and infrared port.

The screen measures 6.30 inches (16 cm) with a resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels and a pixel density of 409 PPI. Therefore, the picture is always clear and uniform. The refresh rate of the screen is 60 Hz, which is not bad in terms of energy savings.

The maximum brightness in this panel reaches 643 nits, so it is comfortable to work with the smartphone even under direct lighting. There is no HDR support on this screen (which, again, is not comme il faut for 2021). The display is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 5, which should withstand up to 15 drops from a meter height.

Performance

The octa-core MediaTek Helio G85 with an architecture of 2 cores 2.0 GHz Cortex A75 and 6 cores 1.8 GHz Cortex A55 is the heart of the smartphone. It is quite fast and energy efficient, although it is made according to the 12 nm process technology. High-performance kernels are connected only when absolutely necessary. The graphics are handled by a rather powerful adapter Mali-G52 MC2.

The RAM module corresponds to the LPDDR3 type, which is slightly slower than LPDDR4X. This kind of random access memory looks like an anachronism in 2021. However, this discrepancy has little effect on the speed of work and autonomy. Modifications with 4 and 6 GB of RAM are available for purchase. It is better to purchase an option with a large volume: in modern realities it will come in handy.

The outdated eMMC 5.1 memory acts as a built-in storage device. Its use in 2021 raises many questions, because in terms of speed it cannot be compared with the same UFS 2.1. However, many state employees still use this type of memory. Available in the market with 32, 64 and 128 GB internal storage.

Display

The RN8 display is manufactured using an LTPS matrix. It lacks the standard IPS drawbacks (like showing dark gray instead of black), but otherwise does not differ from it. The display provides excellent color reproduction, and the brightness is sufficient for working in direct sunlight, even without a special anti-reflective layer.

FHD resolution allows you to see the clearest picture, but it uses up the battery faster. The matrix is covered with the fifth generation Corning Gorilla Glass toughened glass. It resists scratches successfully. The protective glass has a high-quality oleophobic coating to prevent fingerprints.
