Review of the DVR Xiaomi Mi Dash Cam 1S (global version).
Today in the review is the global version of the Xiaomi Mi Dash Cam 1S DVR. In fact, this is an updated version of the Xiaomi Mijia Car DVR or its logical continuation. The recorder is built on the MSC8328P chipset and the Sony IMX307 sensor, implemented using STARVIS technology, which allows you to get a clear image in low light conditions. The camera honestly shoots at 1080P (1920×1080) quality, works with the Mi Home app.
The registrar is delivered in a cardboard box covered with plastic foil with the usual design for Xiaomi products.
On the bottom of the box there is information about the product.
On the stickers in the lower right corner there is just the QDJ4032GL code, indicating the globality of this registrar model.
Specifications in more detail:
Brand: Xiaomi Model: Mi Dash Cam 1S (MJXCJLY02BY) Version: Global (QDJ4032GL) Chipset: MSC8328P; Image sensor: Sony IMX307 (STARVIS) Function: G-sensor, HDMI output, night vision, parking monitoring, voice control; Display: Ips 3.0 inch 640 360; Built-in battery capacity: Li-ion 470 mA / h; Working Voltage: DC 5V 1.5A; Lens: F1.8 6 lenses; Viewing angle: 140 degrees; NTSC 1080P (1920×1080) H.264; Frame rate 30fps; Video Output: AV-Out, HDMI; Audio: Built-in microphone / speaker (AAC) WI-FI: 2.4GHz 802.11 b / g / n (image transfer, remote control, settings, sync and share albums up to 6 meters away); Loop recording: Yes; Loop recording time: 20 min; Memory card support: TF 16-64Gb (not included), class 10 and above; Motion detection: No; Night vision: Yes; Night vision distance: 20m; Parking Supervision Yes; Compatibility: Android 4.4 or iOS 8.0 and above; Working temperature:.10-60 С; Cable length: 3.5m; Product size (L x W x H): 8.80 x 5.30 x 2.80cm; Complete set of the recorder, charger, power cable, two electrostatic stickers, two stickers, a spatula for laying a cable, an attachment bracket, a user manual (including Ch. In Russian).
Information about the features of the registrar was put on the side edge of the box.
Modest but recognizable manufacturer’s logo.
The box is made of thick cardboard and is able to protect the recorder on the way to the buyer. The black foam insert serves the same purpose.
The recorder is packed into a paper bumper, on the bottom of which there was a drawing-instructions for laying the cable in the car. How many registrars have come across, and I see recommendations on this for the first time, thought out to the smallest detail.
The rest of the accessories are stacked in the lower tier of the box.
Together with the instructions in the package, there were two electrostatic stickers, through which the recorder is attached to the car glass. One sticker spare.
I first met this type of DVR mount on the Xiaomi 70MAI model. At first I was skeptical, but my doubts were dispelled by the year of operation of this registrar. not a single case of peeling off the sticker and dropping the recorder There were no cases. secure mount.
It looks like a simple transparent film, but it keeps tenaciously on the car glass, and a recorder tripod is already glued to the outlined circle in the center. I was very pleased with the instructions for this registrar. Since the version is global, the instructions contained sections in English, Chinese, Spanish and unexpectedly Russian, for which many thanks. over, this is NOT a Google translation, and not an anecdotal puzzle, but really normal Russian.
The rest of the accessories in the kit, except for the bracket and a spare mug of double-sided tape for gluing the tripod to the electrostatic sticker, packed in separate bags.
One of the packages contained a rare thing for a set of recorders. spatula for laying the power cord under the rubber seal and trim elements of the car.
Familiar already to me from Xiaomi 70MAI single-port charging at 5 Volt 2.4 Ampere.
The tripod for installing the recorder with a rotary mechanism is very small, it will not be conspicuous and look foreign in the car. A spare round of double-sided tape in case something goes wrong.
And the last accessory. DVR power cord 3.5 meters long with L-shaped microUSB plug.
The updated version of the registrar, just like the previous one, also looks neat and is designed in an attractive style of Xiaomi minimalism.
A drawing with instructions for installing the recorder was applied to the protective film of the display. It’s simple and it’s hard to make a mistake.
On top of the case there is an on / off button, an arm lock and a power connector for the recorder. In the same photo, you can see that the lens barrel is made of metal and has a knurl.
On the underside of the recorder there are holes for the reset button and microphone, as well as a sticker with brief characteristics.
The operating mode indicator and the memory card slot are located on the left side of the case. The slot is covered with a cover and accidental loss of the card or clogging of the slot is practically excluded. The indicator glows white during shooting. In the event of an emergency, the indication color changes to red.
The right side of the case does not contain any functional elements.
For order and presentation in overall dimensions measurement results.
Assembled with a bracket, the camera is still very compact and does not take up a lot of space on the glass. Swivel mechanism allows you to adjust the desired angles.
Turning on the recorder is accompanied by a melody, and when you turn it on for the first time, the user is immediately prompted to choose one of four interface languages. English, Russian, Chinese or Spanish. Not a very large selection, but still quite global.
After selecting the language, the recorder interface will guide the user through the instructions and Presets.
Further and always after connecting the power supply, the recorder will turn on and record. If there is a memory card in the recorder, then he will ask you to insert it, but if it is necessary to install and everything is in order with it, the indicator on the side will glow white.
All control of the recorder is carried out by four touch buttons, marked with white dots under the screen. The screen itself is NOT touch-sensitive and touching the icons above the buttons will not give results.
The DVR status bar is located at the top of the screen. During recording, a red dot blinks next to the Rec message, the date and time are projected, as well as the crossed out WI-FI icon if the registrar is NOT connected to the Mi Home application on the phone. The P symbol also appears here when the parking monitoring function is activated. parking monitor. By default, video recording is silent and the microphone icon is crossed out. By touching the touch button, turn on the microphone, and the video will already be with sound.
The checkbox button activates the process of recording emergency video from a separate folder on the memory card (up to 20% of the total volume), this video can be erased only through a computer or when the folder is full and the recorder will start deleting the oldest records. Ordinary video of users can be erased at any time, or it will happen when the memory is full and the recorder also begins to replace the old video with new files. The files weigh 237 MB each, containing 2 minutes of video. Gallery icon button moves user to DVR memory folders.
Going to any folder stops video recording, which is indicated by the corresponding inscription on the screen. After returning from any folder to the gallery, video recording resumes. Files inside folders are represented by large icons.
The last touch button activates the DVR settings menu where you can turn on / off the sound when the DVR is turned on, set the time to turn off the screen after starting recording, etc. And so on.
You can set the sensitivity of the shock sensor of the recorder or turn it off completely. Taking into account the condition of the road surface, I chose low sensitivity, otherwise crossing the tram rails or falling into a small hole causes video recording to the emergency folder.
You can select the recording quality (only two options, labeled as “finished”. 1080p with a resolution of 19201080, i.e. FHD, and normal 1280 720, i.e. HD) and select the language again.
It is possible to adjust the speaker volume, view the status of the memory card and format it.
The next screen of the settings menu allows you to set the date and time, set the shock sensor sensitivity of the parking monitor function, and start the system update.
DON’T forget in the ability to reset to factory settings and view information in the software.
All of the above operations can be done from the phone by connecting the recorder to the Mi Home application. In addition, the application will become available to take a photo. For some reason, the registrar in such a function was forgotten.
To connect to Mi Home, you need to turn on the access point of the registrar (the very first item in the settings menu).
In Mi Home, the registrar should be found in the “Nearby Devices” tab. When connected, the WI-FI settings window will open on the phone, where a new network will appear. MiDashCam1S_v2_8508. When connecting to this network, you will need to enter a password, which was on the recorder’s screen. On subsequent connections, you do not need to enter a password, you just need to select the desired network.
As noted above, the application adds the ability to take photos. You can also watch the video recorded by the registrar by entering the gallery. Video recording stops again.
The settings menu item is indicated by three dots in the upper right corner of the screen, and from here you can perform the same manipulations with the recorder as through its buttons, plus check the software update and change the name of the gadget. A little later, a software update to version 1.0.5 arrived
Items related to setting up the recorder from the application completely duplicate the button manipulation option.
When connected to a computer, we can see the folder structure and photo / video. Normal video is stored in the Normal folder, in the Event folder. video in how he drove into a pit or an accident happened. Video is dropped into the Monitor folder in events immediately after hitting the car during parking (when the car, for example, stands in the yard at night).
I want to Pay attention to the fact that if you activate the surveillance mode while parking, then after it, when you need to go somewhere, this mode must be turned off, since It does not turn off automatically and event video (accident, entering a pit, etc.) Will not be saved in the events folder, but will generally be recorded in the folder for regular video, i.e. Will not be protected from erasure. In parking monitor mode, the recorder is powered by an internal battery. In case of hitting the car, the recorder starts recording without turning on the screen and without attracting attention. When the owner turns on the ignition, the recorder with a voice message and text on the screen informs about the presence of a new video in the Monitor folder.
The angle of view of the recorder was checked according to the following method: “We put 2 columns on the floor at a certain distance from each other, for example, 2 meters (the more, the more accurate the measurement result will be). Exactly between them we put the recorder and move it away from the line connecting the posts, watching the picture. As soon as the columns are at the very edges of the frame. we measure the distance from the recorder to the line. If b. the distance between the posts, a. distance from the lens to the line connecting the posts, then the angle = 2 arctan (b / 2a) “In my case, b turned out to be 6.95 meters, a. 2.2 meters and the angle of view of the recorder was 115.34 degrees, which is noticeably better than in 70Mai. Claimed 140 degrees. most likely diagonally.
As for the functionality, there is nothing more to add and I suggest looking at the quality of shooting.
In daylight, the registrar proved to be quite confident in fixing the situation on the road and car numbers not only in the same lane, but also in the oncoming one. over, there is distortion of the picture even in the lower corners of the frame and the license plates of the cars can be read. The change of illuminated and shaded areas is well practiced. There is sky flare, which often happened on video, filmed by 70Mai.
Since Youtube degrades the quality of the video, the link to the original.
The DVR sensor quickly adapts to video recording of poorly lit and well-lit areas.
The lack of WDR function affected only at night. There were times when the license plates on the video were overly illuminated. The main reason for this is the too bright head light of my car. However, in the corners of the frame and on the adjacent lanes, where the lighting is not so intense, the license plates are read quite normally.
In all cases, the shooting quality was set to maximum.
The registrar does not take a photo at the level of a DSLR, but it is quite normal for the gadgets of its sector.
On the glass, the recorder Takes up not much space, and does not interfere with the view and remain unobtrusive from the street.
I can only compare this registrar with 70Mai. In terms of the quality of the daytime picture, they are comparable, but the processing of details in the corners of the frame is slightly better in the Xiaomi Mi Dash Cam 1S. The 1S also copes better with transitions from poorly lit to well-lit areas; on a sunny day, there is an unnatural flare of areas of the sky. The presence of a screen A definite plus, i.e. The recorder is completely autonomous. Product support is ongoing and software updates are available. A parking monitor is provided and operates normally. Appearance, build quality I DO NOT take for consideration. habitually neat for Xiaomi. Overtemperature protection is provided, which disconnects the recorder from the power supply.
Installation of the rear video recorder Xiaomi 70Mai, for example Lada Vesta SV Cross
Hello friends! Today I will show you how I installed and connected the rear DVR to my Lada Vesta SV Cross.
For those who like to watch videos, there is a video review on YouTube:
As a rear DVR, it was decided to use a compact DVR from Xiaomi, namely the Xiaomi 70Mai. It is small, without a screen, and when unpacking it, I said that it should not be in the front, but just behind. Well, my hands got around and did. I bought it HERE all offers HERE
Since the rear window gets dirty quickly on the station wagon and hatchbacks, it must be placed in the range of the rear wiper.
Well, now the actual installation. Remove the driver’s door seal.
Then the rear door seal.
This is necessary in order to run the power cable under the ceiling trim without removing it.
Next, we remove the end caps of the panel, under which I brought out the power cable for the recorder from the alarm with two USB ports. This is where you need to stretch the cable from the rear recorder.
I have a video about the installation of this block on my channel:
Well, then we stock up on patience and start twisting. The process, of course, could not be the most fun, but I did it once and my head does not hurt. The cable will not rattle, fray and, accordingly, over time, a shorty will NOT appear or just a break. So we are NOT stingy and cool.
10 minutes and the cable is ready. Installation can begin.
We start with the front pillar. It can be removed, but it was decided to disassemble the interior to a minimum. The cable was simply tucked neatly under the rack without removing it.
In order to stretch the cable from the front to the rear door under the ceiling without dismantling it, you will need a piece of wire.
Then we tie a cable to it and just stretch it.
That’s all, the cable has passed and the ceiling is NOT touched.
Next, the cable must be pulled to the fifth door under the ceiling, preferably again without dismantling it and bring it out through the corrugation under the door trim and to the location of the recorder.
To do this, you will have to pull off just a couple of clips from the ceiling, you can NOT remove it, but then it will be very difficult. We slightly bend the ceiling and stretch the wire from the fifth door to the rear passenger.
We tie the cable to the wire and pull it to the fifth door.
Well, here’s the cable and stretch back almost indiscriminately.
The cable lies on a soft ceiling, so also turn it with electrical tape, its additional fixation is NOT required.
We put the seals in place.
The salon has been completed. Fast, no dust or noise. For everything about everything for 10 minutes.
Now it is necessary to remove the central part of the fifth door trim, without dismantling the cable under it cannot be pulled.
Next, you need to pull the cable through the corrugation and bring it under the removed casing. For pulling, wire is also needed, and for convenience it is necessary to pull off the corrugation O-rings from their regular places, otherwise the wire, and even more so the cable does not want to pass.
Well, actually we stretch and pull the cable.
That’s all, we put the ceiling clips and we will NOT disturb the ceiling itself anymore.
You can also put in place all previously removed seals.
It is better to fix the excess of the stretched cable with ties, for example, to other wires, so that it does not dangle there much.
The excess cable turned out to be no more, I did not cut it, on the screeds the extra piece will safely hide under the plastic sheathing. In my opinion it turned out quite well.
Well, actually the installation of the skin itself.
As you may have noticed, I did not wind the electrical tape to the end, but only with a small protrusion from under the plastic, so that it would NOT rub the cable with its butt, and so that the visible part of the cable was more neat.
The recorder was specially hung low, in the wiper’s area, otherwise in spring and autumn it will only remove dirt on the glass.
You can’t even see it from the outside on the tinted glass, that’s good.
The only thing left to do is to connect the cable to the previously prepared USB port. Here I put the unit on two ports, watch the video about its installation, if interested.
The cable is connected, we hide the excess and you can close the end cover.
We put the plug in place.
Well, that’s all set. The recorder is installed, connected and paired with the front one. They are launched from me through the alarm. They also both turn on for five minutes when an alarm is triggered or when a warning signal from a light hit to the body. If someone hooks on in the parking lot, they will NOT go unnoticed. A convenient and useful thing. I talked about this in more detail in the video about installing the front DVR. So the recorder does not have a screen, a big plus, at night nothing shines in the mirror and does NOT interfere. All control takes place from a smartphone via WI-FI.
This is how in half an hour with smoke breaks and minimal disassembly of the cabin, you can install a rear recorder. As you can see, there are extra wires on the surface, everything is laid in a corrugation, respectively, the cable is not threatened with chafing, bending and breakage, one might say factory assembly. I am very pleased with the result.
As for the presence of tinting on the glass, of course it affects the result, in the daytime it is almost imperceptible, not critical, the picture is quite readable, the numbers are visible, and in general it is worthy. For a general understanding of the traffic situation, more than enough.
But with the arrival of night, the picture deteriorates. You can’t see a damn thing through the toner. Only bright lights and nothing else. The license plates can be seen only at a distance of no more than two or three meters. In general, for the night, the option with toning of course could not do. But because of this, I’m not going to take off the tinting, and even more so to cut out a piece of tinting for the recorder, I can’t go for it. So if you don’t have tinting and are NOT going to glue, then you are more fortunate than me.
Is it rational or not, the installation of the registrar on the back, I will not argue, firstly, I had this registrar idle and it was a sin NOT to use it. Yes, toning completely kills night photography, but at least during the day everything is fine, it’s also better than nothing. Yes, and the installation, as you have seen, cannot be easier. In general, I’ve been skating with him for about a month and I can say that I have never regretted installing it. DOES NOT interfere, do not ask for food, but the record is.
And by the way, no matter how dark toning is, drivers driving behind, it is, in principle, noticeable, and believe me, this is a very deterrent factor for those who want to sit on their tail, blink, blink and cuddle at traffic lights and rise. I think it’s unpleasant to sit behind the wheel and understand that you are being filmed head-on. The behavior of the cars behind me changes noticeably from aggressive to calm immediately after changing lanes behind me in my lane. So in any case, the recorder in the back is, as for me, always good in every sense. I have set, I am satisfied.
Be careful friends on the road, be polite, and remember, they are waiting for us at home! And when the roads become calmer, perhaps we will no longer need these recorders.!
