Earlier, I already wrote on how to connect a TV to a computer in different ways, but the instructions were not about wireless Wi-Fi, but about HDMI, VGA and other types of wired connection to the output of a video card, as well as setting up DLNA (about this will be in this article too).
This time I will describe in detail the various ways to connect TV to a computer and laptop via Wi-Fi, while several areas of application for a wireless TV connection will be considered. for use as a monitor or for playing movies, music and other content from your computer’s hard drive. See also: How to transfer image from Android phone or tablet to TV via Wi-Fi.
Almost all of the described methods, with the exception of the last one, require support for Wi-Fi connection by the TV itself (that is, it must be equipped with a Wi-Fi adapter). However, most modern TVs Smart TVs can do this. The instructions are written for Windows 7, 8.1 and Windows 10.
Playing movies from a computer on a TV via Wi-Fi (DLNA)
For this, the most common method of wirelessly connecting a TV, in addition to the presence of a Wi-Fi module, it is also required that the TV itself is connected to the same router (i.e., the same network) as the computer or laptop on which the video is stored and other content (for TVs with Wi-Fi Direct support, you can do without a router, just connect to the network created by the TV). I hope this is already the case, and SEPARATE instructions are not needed. the connection is made from the corresponding menu of your TV in the same way as the connection to Wi-Fi of any other device. See separate instructions: How to set up DLNA in Windows 10.
Next item. configure a DLNA server on your computer, or, more clearly, SHARE folders on it. Usually, it is enough for this to be set to “Home” (Private) in the parameters of the current network. By default, the folders “Video”, “Music”, “Pictures” and “Documents” are publicly available (you can SHARE a folder by right-clicking on it, selecting “Properties” and the “Access” tab).
One of the fastest ways to enable sharing. open Windows Explorer, select “Network” and if you see the message “Network discovery and file sharing are disabled”, name it and follow the instructions.
If this message does NOT follow, but instead computers on the network and media servers will be displayed, then most likely you already have all the moods (this is quite likely). If it didn’t work, then here’s a detailed instruction on how to set up a DLNA server in Windows 7 and 8.
After DLNA is enabled, open the menu item of your TV to view the contents of the connected devices. On Sony Bravia, you can go to the Home button, and then select a section. Movies, Music or Pictures and view the Related Content from your computer (Sony also has Homestream, which simplifies everything I’ve written). On LG TVs. item SmartShare, there you should also see the contents of the shared folders, even if you do not have SmartShare installed on your computer. For TV second brands, approximately similar actions are required (and also have their own programs).
Additionally, with an active DLNA connection, by right-clicking on the video file in the explorer (we do this on a computer), you can select the “Play on TV_name” menu item. When you select this item, the wireless video stream from the computer to the TV will start.
Note: Even if the TV supports MKV movies, THESE files do not work for “Play To” in Windows 7 and 8, and they are NOT displayed in the TV menu. Solution that works in most cases. easy rename of THESE files to AVI on computer.
TV as a wireless monitor (Miracast, WiDi)
If the previous section was about how to play any files from a computer on a TV and have access to them, now we will talk about how to broadcast any image from a computer or laptop monitor to a TV via Wi-Fi, that is, use its like a wireless monitor. Separately on this topic Windows 10. How to enable Miracast in Windows 10 for wireless broadcast to TV.
There are two main technologies for this. Miracast and Intel WiDi, with the latter reported to be fully compatible with the former. Note that such a connection does NOT require a router, since it is installed directly (using Wi-Fi Direct technology).
- If you have a laptop or PC with a 3rd generation Intel processor, Intel Wireless Adapter and Intel HD Graphics, it must support Intel WiDi in both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. You may need to install Intel Wireless Display from the official website http://www.Intel.com/p/ru_RU/support/highlights/wireless/wireless-display
- If your computer or laptop was preinstalled with Windows 8.1 and equipped with a Wi-Fi adapter, then it must support Miracast. If you installed Windows 8.1 yourself, you may or may not support it. For previous OS versions support comments.
And finally, support for this technology is required from the TV. Until recently, it was required to purchase a Miracast adapter, but now more and more TV models have built-in support for Miracast or receive it during a firmware update.
The connection itself looks like this:
- The TV must have support for Miracast or WiDi connection enabled in the settings (it is usually enabled by default, sometimes there is no such setting at all, in this case, the Wi-Fi module is enough). On Samsung TVs, the feature is called Screen Mirroring and is found in the network settings.
- For WiDi, launch the Intel Wireless Display program and find the wireless monitor. When connected, a security code may be prompted, which will be displayed on the TV.
- To use Miracast, open the Charms bar (case in Windows 8.1), select “Devices”, then. “Projector” (Transfer to Screen). Click on “Add wireless display” (if the item is not displayed, Miracast is not supported by the computer. Updating the Wi-Fi adapter drivers may help.). details on the Microsoft website: http://windows.Microsoft.com/ru-ru/windows-8/project-wireless-screen-miracast
Note that I could not connect my TV via WiDi from a laptop that exactly supports the technology. No problem with Miracast.
Connect a regular TV via Wi-Fi without a wireless adapter
If you don’t have a Smart TV, but a regular TV, but equipped with an HDMI input, then you can still connect it wirelessly to your computer. The only detail. you will need an additional small device for THESE purposes.
- Google Chromecast https://www.Google.ru/chrome/devices/chromecast/, allowing you to easily cast content from your devices to your TV.
- Any Android Mini PC (USB-like device that connects to the HDMI port of the TV and allows you to work in a full Android system on TV).
- Soon (presumably early 2015). Intel Compute Stick. mini-computer with Windows connected to HDMI port.
I described the most interesting options in my opinion (Which, moreover, make your TV even more Smart than many of the Smart TVs produced). There are others: for example, some TVs support connecting a Wi-Fi adapter to a USB port, and there are also separate Miracast set-top boxes.
I will not describe the work with each of THESE devices in more detail within the framework of this article, but if you suddenly have questions. I will answer in the comments.
How to properly configure your wireless Wi-Fi adapter
How to set up a wireless WI-FI adapter. quite a frequently asked question. This is explained by the fact that this technology of data transmission over the air is very widespread throughout the world. This spread is explained by the extremely simple setup and easy implementation of WI-FI networks anywhere, for example, in a cafe, at home, at work, in a shopping center and so on.
Typically, to connect to the network, the user just needs to turn on the wireless adapter on the laptop or smartphone. The device then starts searching for available connections and offers a list. You just have to select the desired network and connect to it. But, before the adapter starts working properly, it must be configured. And here many may have certain difficulties.
How easy and simple it is to set up a WI-FI adapter. Presetting equipment
Presetting the wireless WI-FI adapter. it is software installation. In other words, installing drivers and necessary utilities for working with networks and equipment.
So, if we are talking about a laptop, then all the necessary drivers are available on the disk, which was included with the computer when purchasing. If this disk is lost and you cannot find it, then you can download everything you need on the official website of the manufacturer, indicated the full name of the laptop model.
If you bought a WI-FI adapter for PC separately, then a disc must be attached to it. Also, knowing the exact name of the module, you can easily find the software you need on the Internet. After installing the drivers, new hardware will appear in the device manager. The computer will determine its name and the exact model.
How to install the WI-FI driver
It is also recommended to install additional utilities for configuring and working with the adapter. This completes the preliminary configuration of the wireless Wi-Fi adapter, and you can proceed to the next step.
Configuring the wireless module
After installing the drivers and utilities to work with the device, it is recommended to restart the computer. After that, you can proceed to further settings. Everything is as simple here. All the available parameters that you can change are located in the network control center. It is this service that should be started in the first place to configure network adapters. You can open the service by simply right-clicking on the network icon in the tray (area in the lower right corner of the desktop).
So how to set up a wireless WI-FI network adapter? In the Network Control Center, select “Change adapter settings”. Here you will find the shortcut to your wireless network. It may have different names depending on the version of the operating system. In the seven. wireless network connection, in figure eight. wireless network. If you right-click on this shortcut, a preliminary menu will appear. This is where you can disable the adapter, run troubleshooting, and enter its properties.
Diagnostics automatically finds problems and fixes them. Users only need to carefully follow the prompts on the screen. As a result of the diagnostics, the system will provide a report on the work performed, from which you can find out what errors were found and that they were fixed.
WI-FI adapter properties
How to set up a Wi-Fi network adapter at a deeper level? To do this, go into its properties. Here you can select the components and protocols that will be used by the device. In addition, there are cases when you need to enter the connection IP address manually to configure the network. To do this, select the Internet Protocol version 4 (TCPIPv4) and enter its properties. Here you should move the marker to the item “Use the following IP address” and enter the network data manually. You will find this information in the contract with the provider. You can also just call the Support of your provider’s subscribers and find out all the data.
Next, we return to the adapter properties. In the “Network” tab, in addition to configuring Internet components and protocols, there is a “Configure” button. When you click it, an additional menu with tabs opens:
The first tab displays information about the device. If an error occurs, its code and general information will be displayed here. If no errors are found, then you will see the inscription “The device is working normally.” In the second tab, you will see all the available functions and properties of your WI-FI adapter. Here you can enable and disable certain functions, as well as set their values.
In the overwhelming majority of cases, nothing needs to be configured in this menu, since all parameters are specified during driver installation. However, if necessary, here you can change the MAC-addresses of the adapter, assigned absolutely any values. This is done only in extreme cases, when changing the physical address is necessary to connect to the network.
The Driver tab displays all data in the software and its version. You can uninstall or update the driver here. The next “Details” tab allows you to find out the detailed information about the device. It is worth noting that here you can find out absolutely all the information regarding your WI-FI adapter. In the line “Property” you select the function or service in which you want to learn. Below, in the line “Value” will be displayed Details of the support of the function and in its properties.
The last tab is Power Management. This is the power setting for the Wi-Fi adapter. Here you can enable or disable automatic shutdown of the device to save energy.
Go back to the adapter properties again. Now go to the “Access” tab. This is where we can enable or disable Internet connection sharing for the second users connected to the network. This parameter is used when you are creating a virtual network using a laptop or computer as an access point or server.
Setting up an external Wi-Fi adapter
We figured out the settings of the wireless module on the laptop. But what if this is a USB module, which is used in a stationary computer? How to set up a wireless USB WI-FI adapter? Here it should be understood that it works in the same way as the built-in models in laptops. Therefore it supports the same properties and protocols and has similar settings.
The difference between them is only in the antenna power. Laptops have better signal reception and can be located further away from the access point. This is due to the fact that USB modules are compact, which is why the antenna size is limited. Otherwise, the principle of operation and functionality are exactly the same.

Connecting Wi-Fi CCTV camera to phone and apps for work
Modern Wi-Fi cameras have several protocols for connecting to devices. If earlier access was made via a local network and was NOT distributed within its limits, now for the same network with Internet access you can connect to a separate device, monitor and control the video camera remotely. Let’s take a closer look at how to connect a Wi-Fi camera to a phone.

Connection
To connect a Wi-Fi CCTV camera to a smartphone and control it from anywhere in the world, you need:
- Router with Internet access.
- An IP camera connected to it via Wi-Fi.
- Smartphone with an installed application for Wi-Fi cameras, connected to the local network of the router for the primary connection.
By connecting the camera’s Wi-Fi to your phone, you need to create a more secure connection. Recommended:
- Use a backup independent power line (exclude power interruption).
- Use a backup Internet connection, for example, a modem of cellular operators (exclude a break in the Internet cable).
- Use a backup access point that is independent of your power supply (to exclude damage to the main router by setting reconnections to a backup access point, which is probably in a neighbor).
- Purchase a Wi-Fi camcorder that supports connection to several wireless network channels and rich functionality on alarm (notification to a smartphone, e-mail, video recording to the network storage, sound recording, online snapshots, etc.).
If the router is configured, the access point is active, the video camera is connected to a 220V network, connect them to a single network. Connecting the camera’s Wi-Fi to a smartphone:
- There is a WPS button on the router body. Click her.
- Go to the camcorder and press the exact same button on it (for this you have 2 minutes, but no more). If there are buttons, you can activate the WPS connection through the web interface of the IP camera. How to enter it is always indicated in the instructions.
- After entering pairing mode, the first device will detect the second and connect it to its local network.
- Connect your smartphone to the Wi-Fi network of the router.
- Install the software to work with this CCTV camera.
- Go to the application and make all the necessary settings to establish communication. The program provides step-by-step instructions.
- Done. You have connected the Wi-Fi camcorder to your phone.
The question remains, what is this application? Each manufacturer specifies the software with which the Wi-Fi camera works. Usually, these are proprietary utilities aimed at working with equipment from the manufacturer. But there are “universal” applications through which devices for video surveillance from different manufacturers are connected.
An example of connection can be seen in the following
Applications
There are many applications on the network, but you can count on the fingers of the hand. We chose only those that deserve attention in the selection.
Unifi Video
Utility. a tool for professional video surveillance. It will help you connect the Wi-Fi camera to your iOS and Android phone. The wizard allows you to carry out the initial configuration of the video camera by adding an IP address. Supports work with multiple devices.
Main working points:
- Switching between monitored cameras.
- The main broadcast parameters are displayed on the screen.
- Image settings.
- Switching shooting modes.
- Using PTZ technology to rotate the surveillance device.
- Audio control.
The disadvantage of the program is one, but significant. Without an NVR, the application will not interact with cameras.
Such a device supports the simultaneous operation of fifty observation devices, which is acceptable for an office building or a complex of several buildings. To work with 1-2 video cameras, it is recommended to choose your own software or another application.
Tinycam Monitor
The application works with cameras directly, can support and show the broadcast of 16 devices in total. There are free and paid versions of the software. In the latter, the following functions are available:
- If the camera is equipped with a speaker and microphone, two-way communication can be organized through the app.
- Activation of broadcast recording to an SD-flash drive, network storage via FTP (FTPS) or to the cloud (via http or https).
- Audio transmission.
- Motion sensors support.
- Free developer support.
Meyepro and MEyeProHD
An application that can be tested for all functions before connecting a camcorder to it. With the help of a test outdoor camera, access to which is provided by the developers, you can:
- Save the video stream as a snippet and photo to a connected storage medium (SD card, network storage).
- Use additional features for devices that support PZT.
- Adjust video and audio settings.
The application works with iPhone and Android smartphones.
Setting up video surveillance for viewing on a smartphone is presented in the following
Setting up remote control of a video camera from a smartphone is easy if a router is already present at its location and a Wi-Fi network is deployed. Some video surveillance devices support direct pairing with a smartphone, but the connection in this case is limited to the Wi-Fi coverage area of the camcorder adapter.
Connecting a wi-fi camera to a computer in 2 ways
One of the most important questions in creating a security system at home or premises is how to connect a wi-fi camera to a computer. You can do this yourself by reading the detailed instructions.
Connecting via a router
Immediately before you start connecting the wi-fi camera to a computer, you need to familiarize yourself with the existing device model and the important points of the process. One of them is represented by Tincture of equipment for SOFTOVAYA integration, which is impossible without changing the virtual address.
How to connect a wi-fi camera to a computer via a router? When familiarizing yourself with the device, you should pay attention to its ip-address, which looks like this 192.168.0.1, but basically it will have different numerical values. You can find it on the box, the back of the equipment, or in the instructions.
After that, connect the camera to the computer via wi-fi. To do this, go to any browser and open the page with the ip number. In most cases, nothing will happen, and the Page will not open, which indicates that the domain mismatch prevents the software from docking.
You can fix this problem by visiting the “Control Panel”, which is located in the “Start” menu. Next, the “Network and Sharing Management” tab opens, and in the dialog box that opens, you need to click on the hyperlink of the wireless network connection.
When the next window appears, click on the “Details” button. The user will see all the characteristics of the current connection, and the most important of them is the “Default Gateway”, which has an IP address. Next, the driver with the software is installed, and the application is launched.
To connect a wi-fi camera to a computer, the correct addressing settings are driven into the service.
How to set up an IP address on a computer:
- IP address: where we enter the data of the tracking device;
- Mask: the subnet mask always remains the default 255.255.255.0;
- Gateway: this is the valid data of the router.
Once all the cells are filled, the user will be able to see the images from the existing device. It should be understood that such integration is possible only in the case of devices that have a built-in wi-fi adapter that allows them to perceive the signal and integrate with the router’s network. To make sure of this, you should read the instructions or see the Corresponding logo on the box.
Connecting without a router
An important point is how to connect a wi-fi camera to a computer without a router, which requires the user to directly connect the device to the switch. To do this, you can use a UTP cable, one end of which connects to the device and the other to the router. After that, you need to determine the data of the gateways of the router connected to the PC.
How to connect a wi-fi camera to a computer without a router? To do this, we go through a similar operation, how and when you need to connect the camera to a computer via wi-fi. In the “Control Panel” select the item “Network and Sharing Management”, but already in it you will need to select the item “Local Area Connection”. In the window that will open, you can also open “Information”, where the Required values will be indicated. Next, the drivers are installed on the PC, and the application opens.
