Noisy cooler: What to do?
You came home, habitually turned on the computer and heard the cooler makes noise when starting. No detail will just make noise-it means something happened.
If the cooler is noisy. most likely, he was either dusty or faulty (bearings were ill, grease has dried up). The cooler on the processor, cooler on the power supply, cooler on the case or cooler on the video card can make noise.
First try to vacuum the cooler radiator to clean it from dust. If after that the cooler is noisy, you need to lubricate it. To lubricate the cooler, machine oil, hourly lubricant or oil for sewing machines is usually used. They are usually not advised to use Vaseline and automobile motor oils for lubrication.
There are two ways to lubricate a noisy cooler: removing it and without removing. If you do not want or are afraid to remove the cooler, take a syringe with a thin needle and fill it with machine oil (there should be few oils). Pierce the cooler sticker with a needle and a plastic plug that is under it (you will have to make an effort for this). Drive the oil from the syringe under the cork and remove the syringe. All! A little synthetic glue is advised to drip on the hole from the needle so that the oil does not flow out.
If the cooler does not go out in this way, unscrew it and remove the sticker. Clean the cooler of dust (do not forget the space between the body and the propeller) and drop a few drops of machine oil into it. You can put the cooler back.
When working with the cooler of the power supply, be careful! BP elements are under high voltage, so before cleaning and lubrication of the cooler you need to disconnect the power cord from the power supply.
If the cooler is noisy on the processor, in addition to lubrication, a thermopustus can help. The fact is that noise arises if the cooler adjacent to the processor loosely. Replacing thermal paste will help remove the gap between the cooler and the processor, and the noise should decrease.
If even after that your cooler is gone easier, the problem may be wear. Most often, the coolera bearing is out of order. In this case, only the urgent replacement of the cooler will help. preferably with a more modern and silent. You can’t ignore the problem. If the cooler has failed, other computer elements will begin to overheat, and then you may have to change not a cooler, but a video card or a motherboard.
Most modern coolers are controlled programmatically. If any part of the computer is heated more than usual, the cooler begins to work at large speeds. When the cooler is noisy for this reason (you know that it is working). try to look for a problem in another detail. The cooler is not recommended to artificially lower the speed of the cooler, this can lead to overheating.
If a notum cooler is noisy, then most likely the reasons listed above are also to blame. So “treatment” will be standard. lubrication, cleaning or replacing the cooler. The difference is that the laptop should not be disassembled on your own if you are not sure that you can collect it back. It is better to entrust the solution to the problems with the cooler specialist.
Reducing the noise of a computer fan
What to do? Include in the BIOS the ability to automatically control revolutions. How it works. When starting resource.intensive applications and games, performance increases. The fan begins to rotate faster. Find the setting where the word “cpu fan” is present (fan). We go to BIOS. We cross: we activate the parameters: Settings will appear: there are three modes for them:
We examined how to reduce the noise of the computer via BIOS (BIOS).
How to reduce computer noise Speedfan
Download the utility from the official website at: http: // www.Almico.COM/SFDownload.PHP
Before starting work, turn off the control of the fans in the BIOS. Deactivate the parameters considered at the beginning of the article. Why do it? When loading, the application considers current turnover. They are considered maximum. If, when starting the BIOS utility, the cooler does not disperse to maximum revolutions, the utility will not do it. The indicators will turn out to be incorrect. Overheating will arise.
Beginning of work
Press the installation file twice for installation. When starting, the utility reads the parameters with microcircuits and sensors on the motherboard. The window opens. Go: change your tongue. Consider the main window: the utility displays CPU loading and voltage. The program integral is conditionally divided into three blocks.
Left block
A list of spanning sensors of rotation of the coolers “FAN” is displayed. I have real indicators 2813 RPM (turnover per minute). The rest with zero values will be removed further.
Right block
Temperature sensors are shown: central processor, HDD. If some parameters are incomprehensible, clarify their values with another diagnostic utility. For example, AIDA64.
Lower block
Adjustment is made. Change a value from one hundred percent to sixty. See how the fan speed has changed.
The fans are controlled by the motherboard from BIOS, and not the fact that the program has determined.
Settings
Find a sensor determined in the previous step. Remove the checkmarks from others. Click on it lkm. Indicate the temperature:
Install fifty.five and sixty.five degrees. These values are individual. Experiment. Open the main application window. Install a checkmark opposite “Auto.School”.
The computer after turning on is very noisy fans
If you notice that immediately after turning on, the computer begins to squeal or buzzing disgustingly, then most likely you are buzzing one or more fans inside the system unit. In addition, when the computer is turned on, not a rumble can be distributed, but a crack. in this case, the reason is somewhat different, although it also touches the fans inside the case. But if you have a crack from the system unit-everything is most likely solved easier-some kind of foreign object, usually a wire, but if a buzz is heard, then this is a symptom of a dirty fan in which there is no lubricant. Can buzz both a fan on a processor and in a power supply or on a video card.
You may have an additional corps fan installed. Detecting which fan is buzzing is very simple, you need to open the system unit and turn on the computer. Now, then in turn we slow down the fan with your finger and experimentally find out which fan makes noise. Next, turn off the computer and take the vacuum cleaner, a small brush and remove all the accumulated dust (of course, with a computer turned off). We run the computer and listen, if the cleaning has not helped. we go to the lubrication of the fan. As an example, I will tell you how to clean and grease the cooler in the power supply, all other fans in the computer have a similar design and are versed in the same way.
Turn off the computer. Unscrew the power supply, as a rule, it is attached to the rear wall of the case 4 with screws. Disconnect all the connectors from the motherboard and other components of the computer, if you are afraid to confuse something, take a picture of everything before the disassembly. Open the power supply (unscrewing 4 small screws) and vacuum clean its insides. Remove the fan (unscrewing 4 self.tapping screws) and clean it with a brush.
Now we look at the center of the fan. there is a sticker that can be removed. Under it there will be a hole closed with a plastic or rubber lining. In most cases, it is enough to drip into this hole a little oil on a silicone basis, in an extreme case of ordinary machine oil. And only in some cases, a further disassembly of the fan will be required to remove the rotor (for this you need to remove the locking ring from the fan axis and pull out the rotor). Close the hole with the lining and glue the sticker back, fasten the fan in place and collect the power supply unit.
We connect the wires from the power supply to the regular places, then fasten the BP to the case. Turn on the computer and listen to how the sound from the fan has changed (you may have to wait a moment while the oil is distributed along the bearing). If the noise level has not changed, then it’s time to buy a new fan for the power supply, and the old one can be sent to a landfill. Now it remains to find out the cost of the export of construction debris in order to find out how much it will cost you from your home dump of unnecessary details.
If the fan is noisy on a processor or video card, it is necessary to remove it, as a rule, together with the radiator. Then you need to remove the fan from the radiator, disassemble and grease it. Now an important nuance, before installing the radiator to the place, must be carefully cleaned from the remnants of the old thermal paste and apply a new thermal paterpery on the video card processor or chip in order to properly organize heat removal from the chip to the radiator.
Fan breakdown in the system unit
The most common reason why the computer is buzzing is the output and building a fan on any component. It usually manifests itself as a rumble or a noise during a computer operation. To eliminate it, you need to either replace or lubricate the failed fan.
The reason why the fan has broken is usually its physical wear and contamination.
The faulty fan is determined by ear or the method described above.
Fan replacement in power supply
To replace or lubricate the fan in the power supply, we need:
2.Then remove the lid of the power of the power supply by unscrewing the 4 screw of the mount;
3.After that, disconnect the fan from the power of the power supply by unscrewing the 4 screws of its fastening;
four.Then peel off the protective sticker and grease the fan, dropping a little machine oil there;
5.Collect in the reverse order and check the work. If the result suits, then leave everything as it is. If not, then disassemble the power supply again by performing points from the 1st to the 4th;
6.Next, unscrew the board from the power supply body;
7.Then solder the fan fastening wires from it or disconnect the mounting connector if the wires are not soldered;
eight.Replace the fan new, connecting it to the same connector.
Replacement of the fan on the processor cooler
To replace or lubricate the fan on the processor cooler, you need:
one.Remove the cover cover of the computer system unit;
2.Disconnect the fan power plug from the motherboard;
3.Remove the fan from the radiator of the processor cooler. He usually holds on latches. Just don’t break the latches yourself
four.Lubricate the fan by peeling a protective sticker and dropping a drop of oil onto the bearing;
5.Collect in the reverse order and check the fan operation. If everything suits, then leave. If the rumble is still present, you can replace the fan by buying a suitable one, and installing it as described above.
Replacement of the fan on the video card
Replacing the fan with video cards is quite complicated and requires patience and caution from you. If you fail to remove the fan, then it is better not to do this, since you can damage the culer of the video card.
Consider the process of replacing and lubricating the video card fan using the example of Gigabyte GV-N630 (GT-630).
one.Remove the video card from the computer system unit;
2.Disconnect the power supply connector of the video card, pulling it up;
3.Remove the fan with a protective casing, unscrewing 3 screws to the cooling radiator;
four.Lubricate the fan, pushing the protective sticker and dropping a little oil (if the fan is pierd);
5.Collect everything in the reverse order and check the work. If it does not suit, then we replace the fan with a new or similar.
Often for video cards, whole coolers (fans with a radiator) are sold, but their cost is quite high, so it is better to look for fans separately and change them.
Purge from the dust of the system unit when turning on
A feature of the operation of some system units (for example, HP) is to purge them from dust when turning on. It consists in starting all the fans of the cooling system to full power to blow out dust from the housing and components of the system unit.
Therefore, if your computer is buzzing when turning on, and then it works quietly, then most likely the function of the initial purge of the system unit is triggered.
Why is My Computer So Loud and How to Reduce PC Fan Noise
Power Supply
This device is recommended to change after 2-3 years. The power supply fan is blowing cold air into the housing, while capturing dust, extraneous particles. The result of pollution is again noise and hum, only this time from the power supply. A device responsible for the normal operation of a computer is better to immediately replace. Block manufacturers do not give a guarantee of serviceability after disassembling of their devices.

Why the cooler is noisy?
The cooler is a plastic fan that is installed on the radiator of warring elements, in particular it is microprocessors. Thanks to his work, it is possible to qualitatively remove heat and the processor can work normally, which cannot be achieved with certain failures in the work of the cooler. When the cooler is very noisy, you must first determine the cause, and then proceed to solve the problem.
So you can distinguish several causes of noise:
- Pollution. The most common problem, its characteristic symptom lies in the noise, which was caused without any interventions to the computer. At the same time, the user does not realize why noise is observed, since before everything was in order. With the accumulation of a large amount of dust, dirt on the cooler, he gradually loses in his qualitative characteristics and begins to make noise, clinging to the body. The problem is fraught with the fact that the blades will be damaged: broken, unevenly erased, which will lead to the unbalance of the device. In another case, the constant mechanical effect prevents the normal movement of the cooler, and it stops, which leads to overheating and failure of the power supply, processor, video card;
- Lubrication. In the cooler, as in all the rubbing details, there is a lubricant, it uses a silicone type. Periodically the oil should be added, otherwise sooner or later it will dry out. Another case when a person often adds a lubricant to the fan and from this he clogs. In some cases, WD-40 is used, which is categorically not suitable for this purpose (although many assure that it works, you will have to lubricate every 1-4 weeks), you should buy special silicone oil;
- High speed cooler. In a normal situation, the computer independently determines how speed the fan will be spinning. Some experts set parameters when the number of revolutions is always maximum, respectively, noise arises, as well as unproductive energy consumption. The user will just have to lower the number of revolutions or enable automatic adjustment;
- Incorrect mounting of the case. Typically, the cooler is installed on the body of the system unit or laptop, as well as on the processor radiator. If the fastenings are loosely, rattling will become noticeable, and, accordingly, certain problems with the operability of the fan and the quality of heat discharge;
- A large number of coolers. New computers are more and more equipped with coolers due to high performance and strong heating. If you have 5 or more active cooling systems, then you do not have to count on a low level of noise, although it is worth checking, it may be a little improved the situation.
It is worth noting that the noise increases with strong load on PC, for example, the launch of games, demanding applications and this is normal computer behavior.
Cleaning from pollution and lubrication
So what to do when the cooler is noisy? The problem is that we do not know, the cooler rustles on the processor, in the power supply, video adapter, etc. Before proceeding with the cleaning procedure, it is necessary to determine what kind of cooler the unpleasant noise emanates.
In the case of the laptop, everything is a little simpler, a large number of fans does not provide in it, so the noise comes, almost always, from the visible device that is behind bars, usually from below or on the sides of PC. But it is more difficult to clean the laptop.
For a stationary computer, everything is somewhat more complicated, almost always there are at least 3 active cooling systems in it. To determine the culprit of an unwanted sound, it is enough to stop each cooler in turn by handing the hand and check for noise. First of all, you should start from the fact that the fan stops at the central processor, then the video adapter and, ultimately, on the power supply.
So, in order to eliminate noise, you should clean and lubricate the devices, consider by the example of a stationary PC:
- There are several options here:
- If the noise from the central processor, it is necessary to unscrew 4 bolts along the edges of the case with the fan and remove it, but first turn off the train from the motherboard (you may not turn it off). On one side there is a sticker that must be carefully peeled off. So as not to bother you can just pour a few drops of silicone oil into the hole. It is necessary to clean the blades with a brush or brush, also eliminate pollution from the very body and radiator;
- When the noises come from the video card, it is necessary to clean it. It is worth noting right away that the cooler is rarely clogged, since they are most often located below the board, although not always. First of all, turn off the video adapter by twisting the bolt, fastening one of the sides to the frame.You may have to remove the protective casing from the device. Often the cooler mount is under it, you will have to take a small screwdriver and insert it between the blades, twisting the bolts. Select the connection of the connection and peel off the sticker. Peel the dirt and drip oil;
- Noise emanating from the power supply is the most common cause of deviations. The main difficulty. it is necessary to disassemble the body of the block. First of all, unscrew 4 bolts holding the power supply along with the body (do not mix with cooler mounts). Then carefully remove it and unscrew 4 more bolts connecting 2 parts together. Now unscrew the fan itself. Peel it with a brush and grease it.
- Gently clean the system unit from dirt in other places, otherwise the cooler will soon clog again;
- Now collect and connect everything back;
- You can run the computer and enjoy quiet work.
There is such a nuance that a lot of waste oil can be accumulated inside the cooler, which thickens and blocks its free move. Then you will have to completely disassemble and clean the fan, prying a small latch in the hole under the sticker.
Everything is ambiguous on the laptop, since each model has distinctive analysis methods. In order to get to the cooler, it is better to look at the appropriate instructions for disassembly, and cleaning and lubrication occurs as well as on PC.
HDD
They can make quite loud sounds when working. Especially when they begin to fail. Therefore, if your hard drive began to work louder than usual, then you should check its technical condition with special programs, such as Crystaldiskinfo and make backups of important data.
Different models of hard drives can work with different volume, it is also possible to control the noise issued using programs on some models. But this reduces the productivity of the drive. Also, a hard drive can be replaced with a SSD disk if finances allow. But SSD discs work silently and faster.
Why is the computer noisy or making extraneous sounds
A lot depends on the type of extraneous sound that the computer makes: it buzzes? Or buzzing? Or noisy? or sounds as if some detail fell inside? The search and elimination of the breakdown depends on determining the nature of the sound.
The most common causes of extraneous sound are:
Cabinet fan
Most often, corps coolers located on the rear end or side covers of the system unit fail. Replacing them is a simple matter.
Firstly, turning off the computer, carefully disconnect the power cable. It can either be connected to the power supply through the standard “Molex” connector, or to the motherboard using a small connector for 3 or 4 pins (“Pina”). If you are poorly versed in computers, remember where the fan was connected. After that, unscrew the four screws with which the cooler is attached to the body. Remove it (cooler).
Secondly, you need replacement. This kind of fans can almost always be purchased at any company/store engaged in computers. They usually cost no more than a couple of dollars. In order not to make a mistake. just show the old fan to the seller, and ask for the same. This is the most reliable way.
The installation of the new cooler, I think, will not be problems. just repeat the first point in the reverse order. The only subtlety is that the fan should be placed the basis (on which the turntable itself is attached) outward (in the figure is the base on top), since it is in this direction that the air flow will go, t.e on blowing out of the case.
An example of a corps cooler with a connector on the motherboard. The basis that should be addressed to the outside world here from above.
The Winchester is noisy
Over time, any hard drive (not to be confused with an external solid drive) is unusable, and the main sign of this is the appearance of noise in its work. Immediately after turning on the computer, you can hear the characteristic sounds made by the hard drive. crackling, rattle, etc.D. Typically, in such cases, it is recommended to immediately replace the hard drive, having previously rewritten all the necessary information to other media. If this is not done, there is a chance of her permanent loss.
Not everyone (if at all exists) Service Center offers hard drive repair services. This is a rather painstaking and complex process that requires the use of specifications. It is more profitable to just purchase a new hard drive and continue to work with a computer. It is cost.effective to contact specialists if the hard drive has already failed, and there was a need to restore important information from it.
To accurately understand that the noise from the computer is published precisely due to the fault of the hard drives, they can be disabled for a while. In the case of desktop PC. just open the cover of the system unit, find hard drives and turn off the power cable and a train from them. All this is done when the computer is turned off. If this is a laptop or a netbook. a special compartment for the hard disk that needs to be opened (perhaps the screwdriver is useful) should be present on the bottom of the case). It remains only to pull the hard drive from the computer’s body.
After de.energizing or removing the hard drive, the computer can be turned on (it will simply show on the screen a message about the absence of a drive). If the noise has disappeared, the reason was found, if not, let’s go further.
Pan-exhaust fan
Some system blocks of desktop PC have a through hole in their design and a platform for attaching a “reverse” fan. The task of the latter is to accelerate the withdrawal of heat from the system unit to the outside. The use of this cooler is not always necessary, especially when it comes to a regular home/office computer that is not exposed to high loads.
The fan-exhaust is easy to turn off. To do this, remove the cover of the system unit and turn off the cooler from the onboard network. It can be connected directly to the motherboard or to one of the power connectors of the power supply.
If this particular fan was the source of noise, then it can be left in the disconnected state. If you need to use it, the device will need to be cleaned of the dust accumulated in it and greased with machine oil. Consider this process.
Cleaning and lubrication of PC fans
The subsequent instruction can be applied to most modern coolers used in desktop PC (as well as in some laptops), regardless of their purpose.
The fan-exhaust can have a different configuration of the case and size, however, in terms of fastening of the rotor (part with the blades) to the stature (essentially an electric motor), in all cases, they have a similar structure. The noise in the work of the cooler creates dirt that has leaked into the area between the rotor and the stator. With an increase in the amount of dirt, the efficiency of the lubrication decreases, which first leads to noise when rotating the fan, and then to its complete stop. In order to prevent the failure of the cooled electronic component, it is necessary to monitor the performance of the coolers, performing their periodic prevention.
This is done as follows (using the example of a fan-exhaust).
First of all, you need to turn off the computer and remove the cover of the system unit, unscrewing a pair of screws in its side.
The fan-gap can be in both the lid and in another part of the computer system unit. In our case. the first option. On the image above, notice the presence of screws at the corner of the fan housing. They need to be unscrewed to dismantle the cooler.
First of all, after dismantling the fan, you should get rid of outer dust. To do this, you can use the usual painting brush or even a rag. Cleansing the cooler’s blades, you need to be careful, t.to. They are easy to damage.
After removing external contaminants, the fan must be disassembled by separating the blades from the housing. On the back of the case, you can see a round sticker. It needs to be peeled off.
Under the sticker you can notice a metal part, on top of which a plastic counter-shab. It needs to be dismantled. You can do this with a pair of sewing needles or any other thin solid objects. It is important not to lose counter-shabu, t.to. This small detail holds the entire fan design.
After removing the counter-shabes, the blades can be easily disconnected from the body.
Further, using a cotton wool, the internal areas of both parts of the cooler should be well cleaned. When cleaning electronic components, it is important to monitor the integrity of the copper winding. It is connected to the control board through two very thin wires that are easy to break.
Immediately after cleaning, the entire internal area (especially the central part) of the rotor and stator must be greased with machine oil. Any is suitable. car or even gun. Can be lubricated when using the same cotton wool or watercolor brush.
Next, it remains to insert the blades back into the case, and then install the counter-shabu in your place.
Perhaps the sticker removed at the very beginning will cease to sculpt to the body. Instead, you can use adhesive tape. The main thing is to fly up this small hole where the counter-shaba is located.
Installation of a new fan
If the repair work listed above did not give any result, then you should think about replacing the cooler. Just take your time to buy a cheap device. It is better to give preference to a more expensive device from a reliable manufacturer. Often, such active cooling works quieter and lasts longer.
But also do not forget about constant PC care, cleaning. It is enough to perform it every six months. But it all depends on the conditions of the room in which the computer is installed. If on the table, there is a lot of dust on the floor, which is extremely rarely cleaned, then a month later, a large accumulation of trash can be found inside the case.
Reduce the speed of rotation
You can use software methods if, when turning on, start.up or during the game, the fan makes a great rustle on the processor (video card). Really fix the situation in the settings through special software. Usually it can be downloaded on the official website of the cooling system manufacturer.
Options in Bios (Phoenix, newer versions), UEFI are also available. FAN Speed (number of revolutions per minute), FAN CONTROL (automatic speed control). We recommend watching a few videos:
The most important thing is that a reduction in speed does not cause an increase in the temperature of the processor. Therefore, you should definitely monitor the indicators. These programs come in handy.
