3G camera

Very often, when creating a surveillance system, it is necessary to obtain remote access to the image from cameras, but there is no wired Internet at the facility and there is no way to connect it. In this case, this task can be solved using a 3G camera, i.e. IP camera that can transmit images over wireless networks of cellular operators.

The optimal solution can be a megapixel IP camera with a 3G Novicam N14 modem. The camera has a built-in NOVIcloud cloud service and therefore no static IP addresses are needed to connect to it via the Internet. The camera is equIPped with a built-in IR illumination, a microphone, has an alarm input and output, and can also record on a microSD memory card up to 32GB. All the necessary software is included with the camera and recording can be done both on a remote computer and on a recorder, for example NR1604. Live and archive viewing can be carried out via the Internet (both wired and wireless. 3G) on a smartphone or tablet.

If you need an outdoor 3G camera, and ready-made solutions do not suit you for the price, then you can offer another option. Take an inexpensive all-weather IP camera, for example Polyvision PN-IP1-B3.6 v.2.0.1 for 2600 rubles, and connect it to an external 3G router 3G Station for 7000 rubles, so you will get a high-quality and reliable solution for only 9600 rubles (are given as of June 2017). You connect the IP camera to the LAN port of the router, insert the SIM card of the cellular operator into it and direct its built-in antenna to the nearest station of the mobile network.

The advantage of this solution is the presence of a powerful directional antenna in the router, which will allow you to receive a stable signal even at a great distance from the base station. Unlike ready-made outdoor 3G cameras, with small built-in antennas, which can only work in the area of reliable reception of a cellular signal.

In addition, the 3G Station router has a Wi-Fi access point, to which you can connect additional devices. IP cameras, recorder. You can connect several IP cameras to this router through an IP recorder (NVR), which is installed indoors or in an outdoor thermobox or through an outdoor switch, which can also power IP cameras via PoE. Thus, a solution for several 3G IP cameras will be much cheaper than using ready-made 3G cameras.

Another way to get an inexpensive outdoor 3G camera is to use an IP camera with Wi-Fi and a regular router with a 3G / 4G modem. This option will be even cheaper, but for this it is necessary that the router is located in a heated room at a distance of no more than 100 m from the Wi-Fi camera. The cost of a router with a modem will be about 4000 rubles, i.e. The whole solution will pull no more than 10,000 rubles. Well, if it is possible to stretch the cable from the camera to the router, then this task is solved even easier.

As one of the options for a 3G camera, you can offer the Microdigital MDC-i4240 IP camera with the Ivideon cloud service. We have already written that this camera supports Yota (4G) modems, and the USB connector for the modem is located directly on the camera itself and it is enough just to connect this modem to it, and the wireless IP camera is ready to work.

And recently, the developers of this IP camera, together with the specialists of the Ivideon cloud service, have supported this camera and 3G modems. The following modem models are currently supported: Huawei E173, E352, 320D and ZTE MF 192. In the future, this list is planned to be expanded.

To connect a 3G modem to the MDC-i4240 camera:

  • Go to the camera web interface;
  • In the side menu, go to the Ivideon tab;
  • Further, in the Configure 3G section, modem will set the flag opposite Enable;
  • Select your wireless provider from the list (MTS / Megafon / Beeline). If you have another provider, enter the connection parameters yourself. You can find out these parameters in your GoProvider;
  • Click Apply;
  • Connect activated 3G modem with SIM card to the camera’s USB port and restart the camera by turning off and then turning on the camera power.

Detailed instructions for setting up an IP camera and connecting it to the Ivideon cloud service can be downloaded here.

The only drawback of this solution is the fact that it can only be used indoors. If you need an outdoor 3G camera, you can offer a camera in a standard case with a CS lens, which can be placed in a hermetically sealed housing and an external GSM antenna connected to it. For example, Teltonika MVC-100 GSM camera perfectly copes with this task. Alternatively, you can use a ready-made outdoor solution from Beward. B1062-3GK220. This is a 3G camera placed in a thermo case with heating and 220V power supply.

Another option for an inexpensive outdoor wireless 3G camera is the 5 megapixel model IPEYE-3802. She has a USB connector, which can be connected to a 4G modem. It is enough to place a sealed box next to the camera in which to place this modem together with all other connectors. And the support of these cameras for their own cloud service IPeye.Ru will save you from the need for a static IP address. In addition, the advantage of this option is the presence of IR illumination in this IP camera. There is a variant of the camera with a varifocal lens. IPEYE-3802V.

Inexpensive 5 MP models IPEYE-3801 and IPEYE-3801V can be recommended as internal cameras with support for a 4G modem.

Thus, you can get remote access to your surveillance system even where there is no wired Internet.

  • On this topic

Today it is possible to organize remote monitoring using almost any camera with Internet access. There are various types of cameras that can send a stream directly to a client that connects to them, transmit data to Cloud services, or combine both functions. You can always watch the broadcast from the cameras locally, but sometimes there is a need for remote access: for example, to provide surveillance via a smartphone. There are several solutions for this.

Connection example

Let’s consider how to connect to surveillance cameras from a phone, using the example of Dahua P2P equIPment and proprietary gDMSS program.

  • Wired network connection through a router;
  • There is an internet connection;
  • The external IP address is static;
  • Port forwarding from this IP to the camera is configured;
  • The gDMSS Lite application is installed on the phone.

For Apple smartphones, there is a version of iDMSS for iOS, the download of which is also available from the AppStore.

The first thing to do is connect the surveillance camera to power, network, and configure the network parameters. This is done in the device’s web interface. To access it, you must first find out its default address. As a rule, it is indicated in the instructions along with the administrator’s login and password. The assigned addresses can also be viewed in the router’s client list: the newly connected camera is usually near the end of the list. The name of the node associated with the brand or model will also help you find it.

When the network is configured, you can start connecting.

Open the gDMSS app for Android:

The software provides tools for working with cameras, access control systems and alarms from Dahua. In this case, select the CCTV button:

In the window that opens, there will be a settings button on the top left. By clicking it, a menu of configuration tools will appear:

  • Display. interface for viewing images from all cameras paired with software or one specific one;
  • Playback. access to the archive, if any;
  • Devices. interface for adding new perIPherals and setting up the already connected;
  • Favorites. data from cameras marked as selected are displayed here;
  • Local files. Pictures and records saved in the smartphone / tablet memory;
  • Local settings. an additional menu where equIPment parameters are set (PTZ step, archive configuration, etc.).

Going to the “Devices” tab will show a list of already added gadgets, and will also allow you to connect new equIPment. For this:

  • In the upper right corner, click on the “plus”;
  • Make a choice from several options. adding via Wi-Fi, via Ethernet cable, via cloud service or auto search.

Consider a wired connection.

Since in this example the IP is static, you can select the Corresponding item (IP addresses). In the menu that opens, enter the data:

  • Name. the name of the host to which the connection is made;
  • Address. network address of the gadget (external static or obtained via DDNS)
  • Port. The network port used by the camera;
  • User. login and password;
  • Display. selection of data stream. The main one will provide the best picture quality and the maximum load on the network, the additional one. less load with a reduced quality;
  • Playback. similar options for archive.

P2P work menu:

The name of the device, its login and password are also entered here. The most important item is the serial number. It is entered either manually or by scanning a QR code from the device body.

After entering the information, the app will connect to the cloud server and connect to the camera.

Upon successful completion of the process, online viewing will become available in the program interface

Cameras from other manufacturers are configured in a similar way. In the absence of proprietary software, you can use one of the universal options. for example, TinyCam Monitor and others. These programs allow you to connect with your IP cameras, and with those around the world, if the access parameters are known. So, Moscow has many public cameras on the streets and indoors, and every year there are more and more of them.

Using Relay Software

As a special case of organizing remote monitoring, you can consider the use of third-party broadcasting software. With this method, a special program for broadcasting is installed on a PC located in the same network with the camera (or having network access to the device). It takes the stream from the camera, converts it if necessary and transfers it to an external source.

This is, for example, the OBS Studio program. With its help, you can capture images from IP and webcams. The software contains several presets for broadcasting to YouTube, Instagram, Twitch.TV and other projects, which you can visit and watch the broadcast in real time. An indication of your own streaming server is available: thus, the user has the opportunity to create a web service for his own needs, transfer to it and enters for viewing via the Internet from a smartphone.

For OBS Studio to work, the signal source must support the RTSP protocol. Most network cameras support it, with the exception of some cheap solutions from Chinese noname manufacturers.

The program is free and at the same time very functional. For the maximum speed of the built-in encoder and quality, it is desirable to have a modern PC with a powerful processor and sufficient RAM, as well as a communication channel with good bandwidth.

PrincIPle of operation

To pair a surveillance camera and a phone, you must have:

  • An IP camera located on a network with Internet access. The camera can be either wired (connected via Ethernet) or Wi-Fi;
  • It is desirable that the device be accessible “from outside” the local network by its IP address and port, which may require a static IP and setting up port forwarding on the router (the latter. if the equIPment is NOT directly connected to the Internet)
  • Cell phone from which access will be carried out;
  • In some cases, you will need specialized vendor software.

The latter is not always relevant, but some equIPment manufacturers release their own mobile applications to receive a stream from their cameras.

The user’s task is to find out the network address of the device and set up a connection to it from a mobile phone, after which all that remains is to view the transmitted picture. If there is only one camera, then you can do without additional equIPment. If there are several of them, you will need a router for simultaneous operation.

How to connect a camera in each specific case will depend on the type of gadget.

Why connect to a camera remotely

The development of the Internet and technological progress make it possible to create surveillance systems almost everywhere. The owner of such a complex can receive data in the area controlled by the camera from literally anywhere in the world with access to the global network. For example, owners of private houses appreciate the ability to monitor by phone: thanks to the control from a smartphone, they are always aware of what is happening in their home. And a modern surveillance camera for online home with an output to the phone usually has many additional functions, such as motion detectors and initiation, notified by various triggers. Especially irreplaceable is such an opportunity for a “smart home”.

“Classic” surveillance means one or several cameras, information from which is displayed on monitors and recorded in the archive on a central server. But now there are inexpensive and advanced devices on the market that can transfer images to the Internet. And for mobile phones, applications are released that have the functionality of connecting to such cameras. This is a convenient opportunity, which is used both in the corporate sector and in the private sector. for example, in houses and cottages, in adjoining territories, summer cottages, and so on. Sometimes surveillance is associated with security complexes, but these are more complex solutions.

Conventional cameras

Non-P2P devices simply stream to the client connecting to them. This solution also has its advantages:

  • The camera (or a set of those) does not depend on intermediate servers;
  • You can flexibly configure the connection parameters;
  • The owner of the system has complete control over its operation and safety.

Cons of this approach:

  • To connect the camera to the phone, you need to have certain knowledge of IT or study in detail the techniques for working with the selected network equIPment;
  • If you have several cameras, you will need a router and its fine-tuning;
  • To access via the Internet, you need a static external IP address or work through dynamic addressing services like DynDNS.

Many camera manufacturers release specialized apps for their devices. There are also paid and free universal programs for remote access to IP cameras: there is such software, for example, in the popular vendors Dahua and Hikvision.

Varieties of surveillance devices

All IP cameras can be divided into two large views:

  • P2P devices;
  • No P2P.

Peer-2-Peer is also called cloud technology. Its support by hardware means that it works through a specialized cloud service, from where the data can be read by a special program from any client terminal. After turning on and configuring the network, such cameras usually connect to the “cloud” automatically or after specifying the appropriate parameter in the web interface.

The process of deploying such a complex of telephone surveillance is simple:

  • Install the camera, provide it with an Internet connection and power;
  • Download the software of the corresponding P2P service and install it on the mobile;
  • Pair the program and the device using the serial number or QR code;
  • If necessary, enter the user password.
  • The camera does not need a static IP address, any connection to the Internet is enough;
  • If there are several online cameras, there is a need for additional router configuration and port forwarding. All of them will automatically connect to the “cloud”;
  • There is a need to allocate your own disk space for the archive. The transfer goes to a remote server;
  • There are practically no difficulties with how to connect an IP camera. The user can simply set the P2P mode, download the software for connecting to the cloud service to the phone and start using it. Such services are provided, for example, by iVideon, and many cameras have built-in support for their “cloud”. There are similar solutions in Xiaomi and others;
  • If the server detects that the device was connected from an unusual location or under a suspicious account, it can report this (depending on security settings).

But there are also disadvantages:

  • “Clouds” are often paid. And even with a free tariff plan, its capabilities are limited. for example, the bit rate is artificially reduced, which degrades the quality of the resulting image. Also, the depth of storage of records is often limited. in the free mode, the service saves only the last few minutes, or nothing at all;
  • Surveillance depends on the health of the company’s servers. If access to them is lost for some reason, the picture will NOT be received;
  • There may be doubts about the security of the data transmitted to the remote server and stored there.

Conclusion

There are many software and hardware solutions on the market to implement surveillance. The level of development of today’s technologies is such that this task can be realized without large investments and Special knowledge: if a few years ago CCTV equIPment was expensive and needed expert tuning, then thanks to the cheapening and widespread adoption of P2P, deployment of a surveillance system is available to almost everyone.

Enthusiasts are also creating noteworthy webcam projects on the Raspberry and MotionEyeOS platforms.

Professional equIPment

For high-quality observation in difficult conditions, professional devices are used, which have additional settings: adjusting the signal level in automatic mode, adjusting the noise level, gamma correction, adjusting the backlight and others. Also, professional cameras are distinguished by a special design that allows for stable observation regardless of temperature and precIPitation. Such devices have a high cost, so they are recommended to be used only to protect something really expensive.

    By signal transmission technology, you can find IP cameras, autonomous nannies, GSM devices for security. Depending on the type of installation, there are also outdoor cameras and indoor surveillance equIPment. According to the original “picture” they are color and black and white.

    Home surveillance cameras

    Besides professional equIPment, there are also devices for home use. Despite the popular misconception that the difference between them lies in the image quality, this is not so. the latest models also “give” the picture of excellent quality.

    The main difference in gadgets is the settings. A product for home use has limited functionality, sufficient for performing duties: getting a good image, sometimes saving data to a hard drive. A simple intercom will do well for this purpose.

    A more modern version. an IP camera, is installed above the entrance to a residential building and transmits information over a long distance, therefore it is equIPped with a special antenna.

    Organization of the surveillance system

    The organization of remote surveillance with the introduction of a global network is different from GSM surveillance. A personal computer is used as the base unit. Monitoring by phone or tablet with the introduction of a computer provides the user with great opportunities. First of all, such a surveillance system allows you to install a large number of cameras, and the software allows the user to configure operating modes and remotely control the movement of the camera horizontally and vertically.

    The disadvantage of such a system is the need to obtain a static address of the device from the provider and the limitation on the length of the connecting cable between the camera and the computer, which does not have to exceed 5 meters. So after all, it is not entirely convenient to have a constant round-the-clock work of a personal device. When using a large number of cameras, a capture card must be installed on the computer for a certain number of cameras. A surveillance camera with viewing via a smartphone allows you to monitor the object in real time and record with the ability to remotely study the archive by date and time.

    Remote observation

    The remote control system allows you to observe everything that happens in the home in the absence of the owners. Many people install hidden cameras (in technical aspects, read further. http://videokontroldoma.ru/kak-oborudovat-skrytoe-nablyudenie-v/) to see how the invited nanny treats the child or to control the inviolability of the suburban area. A manager of any level can evaluate the performance of staff in his absence.

    The remote online surveillance system can implement the following functions:

    • Direct control in real time
    • View archive
    • Listening to monitoring zones using microphones
    • Receiving an SMS message on a mobile device

    Control of images from cameras can be carried out from anywhere in the world where there is Wi-Fi Internet. The surveillance system is usually equIPped with a recorder to record information that can be viewed from a remote device. When organizing Internet surveillance, it is best to use cameras that have a solid-state drive (flash card) to which information is recorded.

    In order to save memory, recording is turned on “by event”, that is, when a motion sensor is triggered. Modern IP cameras equIPped with microphones, the information from which is also controlled by any mobile device.

    When the motion sensor is triggered, the device will not only turn on the recording, but also send an SMS message to the mobile device to the owners of the home. As an additional function, an alarm can be programmed to a preset telephone number to the rapid response group.

    Remote monitoring of a mobile phone can be realized through a personal computer or through a special router (router). For visual control, it is preferable to use digital USB cameras, since they are adapted to work directly with a computer or laptop. Surveillance organized via a mobile phone works with the use of GSM network protocols and client software.

    Special cameras

    In order to get full control over the situation in any room, you can use a special type of cameras. THESE devices have a SIM card slot, so the camera has a regular phone number. It is enough to call this number from your mobile device and on the screen of your smartphone or mobile phone you can receive, in real time, the broadcast from the facility where the surveillance camera is installed. Modern GSM cameras use third generation technology (3G) and have wide functionality.

    A camera for remote monitoring, in addition to image transmission, has the following capabilities:

    • Recording on a “Micro SD” memory card
    • Broadcast sound from the microphone built into the camera
    • Providing two-way voice communication
    • Sending an SMS message when the motion sensor is triggered
    • Sending messages to three pre-programmed numbers

    The only condition for remote monitoring is the location of the camera and the subscriber in the coverage area of the 3G network. The mobile phone model must support 3G calling. The Guardian 3G Mini model can be considered a typical representative of the family of cameras for remote monitoring. The camera is equIPped with infrared illumination up to 6 meters, which allows you to monitor the object at night.

    The device is powered by a miniature power adapter or battery. The camera allows connection to the transmission channel of up to 15 sensors of various types. These can be motion detectors, door and window openings, glass breaks, or fire detectors. This design allows you to use a GSM camera Not only for monitoring an apartment by phone, but also as a full-fledged security system.

    Organization of surveillance using smartphones and mobile devices

    Modern means of wireless communication make it possible to organize a surveillance system in an apartment or house using mobile phones, smartphones or tablets. On the displays of THESE devices, you can view all the information coming from the cameras, as well as the sound picture, being from the control zone at almost any distance. Surveillance via smartphone or other mobile device, carried out in real time.

    From the material you will learn:

    System components

    The monitoring system using a phone or tablet can be implemented in two versions:

    Video Camera With Internet Access
    • Laying of cable lines
    • Wireless system

    When choosing IP cameras for surveillance, you must be guided by the parameters of THESE products, the main of which are Resolution, sensitivity and focal length. The range of digital cameras varies widely in cost and quality, so the choice is mainly determined by financial capabilities. Signal transmission is carried out via twisted pair cable.

    This method makes it possible to dispense with the additional power supply GoPro. Wireless surveillance systems make it possible to dispense with installation work on laying cable lines, since the signal is broadcast over the radio channel, but the power of the cameras from the battery significantly limits the time of continuous operation of the entire system.

    To organize monitoring of an apartment via a smartphone or phone, in addition to cameras, you will need a recorder to record information on the built-in hard drive and a router that provides Internet access. To connect surveillance cameras for viewing via a smartphone, it is most convenient to purchase a ready-made set of equIPment. This will allow you to carry out all the work on installation, connection and configuration yourself, and not involving outside specialists. Ready-made complexes are produced by several well-established companies. They are designed to connect a different number of cameras and allow you to monitor the object through mobile devices.

    UControl Start 7S kit includes 4 color cameras, which can be placed indoors or outdoors, a recorder that provides recording to a hard disk with a capacity of 500 GB, a set of connecting wires and instructions for installation and configuration.

    The system provides real-time viewing of images on the following devices:

    • IPhone
    • IPad
    • Android and WinPhone smartphones
    • Android tablets, Windows 7/8

    The cost of a set with a Hard Drive is 16,900 rubles. A similar device, designed to connect 8 all-weather cameras, will cost 50,900 rubles. The process of connecting and setting up the system is very accessible and will NOT be difficult.

    Software for smartphones or tablets

    There are many applications for mobile devices that allow you to remotely view pictures from cameras in real time. Such software products are constantly updated and improved. Exacq Mobile 2.1 is a mobile client designed for IPhone, IPad, Android smartphones and tablets. This application is designed to work with the multifunctional exacq Vision software.

    When using ready-made surveillance kits from UControl, you need to download the free Q-See QT View software from Google Play to your mobile device. After the installation is complete, you need to register the network type, device addresses, login and password in the window that opens. After that, just press the “Login” button and select the “Real Time” mode. In the main menu of the program, you can set the Required settings.

    The following can be noted:

    • For remote monitoring from one camera, it is easier and cheaper to use a USB device that plugs directly into a computer or laptop
    • To organize surveillance from several cameras, it is better to use a ready-made kit

    All installation and connection work is NOT a big deal and is done independently.
