What was left unchanged?

Design. The only difference is in the frame, which is larger due to the smaller display. Supports 1st generation Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard, Lightning connector and same battery life. Two speakers and a 3.5mm jack are also unchanged.

CPU

The A10 Fusion comes from the previous generation. It will be enough for most everyday tasks, but professional software for video editing and photo processing may already “think”.

If you are considering a tablet as a multimedia device for your home or an ordinary reader, feel free to buy the seventh generation, which will last for several more years. Of course, I would like to see the A10X Fusion, which was in the iPad Pro 2017, but the usual “ten” will go.

Minor differences

The front camera in the seventh generation iPad is only 1.2 megapixels versus 7 megapixels in the Air (2019). It’s quite sad, it’s only enough for video calls. First generation Touch ID is not very fast. The maximum amount of memory ends at around 128 GB, the Air (2019). 256 GB.

Display

The “seventh” iPad has a 10.2-inch Retina display without lamination, anti-reflective coating, True Tone technology and P3 color gamut. The Air has it all, and the diagonal is slightly larger. 10.5 inches.

Current iPad line

Most users won’t notice much of a difference. Compared to the iPad Pro, yes. There is 120Hz, which makes the picture smooth and the tablet feels completely different.

iPad Air (2019) vs iPad 7th generation. which one to choose?

The September 10 presentation kicked off with the surprise announcement of the seventh generation iPad for 329. The novelty has received a display with a larger diagonal, support for Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard. Let’s see if it is worth overpaying for the iPad Air (2019), which at first glance is not much different from the new tablet.

And what to take?

Depends on the tasks: if you need a device to watch videos at home, read books and social networks, then there is no point in overpaying for Air (2019). In fact, Air (2019) is the same device, but with a better display and a processor that will last a couple of years extra.

If earlier Air (2019) differed from the “regular” iPad in keyboard support, now there is no difference. All iPadOS chips will be available, which means the seventh generation will be a “popular” device with excellent sales. The price, of course, decides, but the iPad (2019) is just wonderful.

It only makes sense to update to the seventh generation iPad from very old models. Last year’s iPads are practically the same, and the very first iPad Pros will last another year or two.

IPad Air 2019 Package Contents

The contents of the box of Apple tablets have not changed since the very first iPad, so this case was no exception. Along with the iPad Air 2019, the manufacturer supplies a Lightning cable and a 12W charger block.

Display iPad Air 2019

iPad Air 2019 is equipped with a 10.5-inch IPS display with a resolution of 2224×1668 pixels (226 ppi) with a brightness of 500 cd / m2 and displaying the DCI-P3 color space.

The picture quality of the display is really excellent, according to our measurements, the color gamut is larger than the sRGB triangle with a slight bias in green, the color temperature and gamma are at the same level as the reference values, and the backlight is uniform.

There is no air gap between the glass and the screen matrix in the iPad Air 2019, and the image itself does not invert and does not fade when viewed at an angle.

The display in the tablet supports True Tone mode, in which the white balance changes automatically depending on the ambient light, making the picture “warmer” or “colder”.

Unfortunately, despite the fact that the design and diagonal of the iPad Air 2019 is completely the same as the iPad Pro 10.5, its display does not support refresh rates up to 120 Hz. But it is possible to connect the Apple Pencil to the tablet and draw or take handwritten notes on its screen. But there is also a nuance here, only the first generation is supported, so you’ll have to be content with its capabilities.

Loudspeakers

Another difference between the iPad Air 2019 and Pro models is the smaller number of external speakers, there are two of them, while they are located on the same side of the case.

They sound quite loud, but without a perceptible stereo effect. Considering that the new Air’s body is actually the same as the iPad Pro 10.5, Apple had the ability to place speakers on different sides of the body, which would make it easier to watch videos and play games without plugging in headphones.

It’s good that the latter can at least be wired, for this there was a place for a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the top edge of the tablet. They can be wirelessly connected via Bluetooth 5.0.

social networks:

The iPad Air, which debuted in 2013, was initially positioned by Apple as the flagship device, but after surviving only one update, it ceded the title to the iPad Pro. Nevertheless, Apple did not forget about this line of tablets and this year introduced the iPad Air 2019, the third generation of the model, which is no longer positioned as a flagship, but has a good set of characteristics and a more affordable price than the Pro version.

Fingerprint scanner iPad Air 2019

Below the display of the 2019 iPad Air is the TouchID fingerprint scanner. The company used a second generation sensor, so it works quickly, literally in a second, opening access to the tablet’s desktop.

Camera

Unlike the flagship iPad Pro 11, in which Apple uses the Sony IMX315 module, which can take quite high-quality pictures, the Air 2019 has a simpler camera. It is equipped with a 12-megapixel sensor with f / 2.4 aperture.

In good lighting, you can take more or less high-quality pictures using a tablet, especially in HDR mode, which helps the camera to cope better with exposure.

On the left is a picture in automatic mode, on the right in HDR

With the deterioration of lighting, the detail of images on the iPad Air 2019 drops dramatically, the f / 2.4 aperture is not able to transmit enough light to the matrix in such conditions.

In addition, the lack of optical stabilization also does not play into the hands of the camera in low light conditions.

Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard support

Apple is true to itself. the company first makes the new technology exclusive to top-end gadgets, and then gradually adds it to more affordable lines. Here is the iPad Air 3 (2019) for the first time in history received support for Pencil (but it is the 2nd generation, not the first). Now on the new tablet it will be possible not only to draw, but also to do it with comfort. double tap on the “pencil” will allow you to switch between drawing tools on the go, and not close them and then open them again.

Air is also compatible with the compact Smart Keyboard. it connects to the tablet via the proprietary Smart Connector.

It should be noted separately that the Smart Keyboard is compatible with the “air” gadget. there will be no connection with the Smart Keyboard Folio (this accessory covers both the front and rear panels of the iPad). The latter will “make friends” only with the Pro-version of the “apple” tablet.

Cameras iPad Air 3 (2019) and iPad Pro (2018)

The iPad Pro (2018) has a more advanced photo module. a 12-megapixel main camera with f / 1.8 and a four-element TrueTone LED flash for creating even illumination in the picture.

All that the iPad Air 3 (2019) can boast of in this regard is an old 8-megapixel camera with an f / 2.5 aperture. What is called “no claims”.

And what about the front-end? Both tablets have 7MP. but the Pro version has TrueDepth technology with support for Face ID and portrait mode.

Buttons and connectors for iPad Air 3 (2019) and iPad Pro (2018)

iPad Air 3 exactly repeats the set and location of buttons and connectors iPad Air 2, namely. volume control, power (sleep) and Home with Touch ID.

Device retains 3.5mm audio input, Lightning interface and Smart Connector.

iPad Air VS iPad VS iPad Pro. Which iPad Should You Buy in 2020?

In turn, the iPad Pro (2018) lost the audio jack, the Home button, and Lightning was replaced by USB-C. Added additional microphones and magnetic surface for attaching and charging Apple Pencil 2.

0.5-inch iPad Air 3 (2019) vs. 11-inch iPad Pro (2018): how they differ?

In March 2019, Apple without much fanfare released another update to its “air” tablet. iPad Air 3 (review). The gadget received the latest processor from the iPhone (A12) and support for branded accessories like Pencil and Smart Keyboard. How good is the new product compared to the similarly sized 11-inch iPad Pro (2018)?

User authentication for iPad Air 3 (2019) and iPad Pro (2018)

The iPad Air still has a Home button with a built-in Touch ID sensor. so authentication happens the old-fashioned way, through a fingerprint. But the iPad Pro, of course, already has Face ID. to unlock the tablet, just look at it.

Design

As mentioned above, the iPad 8 update was completely minimal and did not affect the design. If you look at the iPad 7 (2019) and iPad 8 (2020), they are identical. The dimensions of the new item are 250.6 x 174.1 x 7.5 mm, which fully correspond to the dimensions of the iPad 7. Apple has slightly increased the weight, literally by a couple of grams: the iPad 8 weighs 490 g if we are talking about the Wi-Fi version and 495 g if pro version with LTE module. iPad 7 weighs 483g. Wi-Fi version and 493g. LTE.

The design of the iPad 8 is also the same: glass on the front, aluminum back, and aluminum frame. Apple retains the Touch ID button, large screen bezels and even the Lightning connector.

iPad 8th generation, like its predecessor, is available in colors: Silver, Gold, Space Gray.

Connectivity

Unfortunately, Apple has retained the Lightning connector as its primary connector. No miracle happened this year, and the eighth generation iPad didn’t get USB-C. The two models only support the first generation Apple Pencil (2015) and can work with the proprietary Smart Keyboard. In terms of wireless connectivity, Apple supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 in both the 2019 and 2020 models.

Comparison of characteristics of iPad 7 (2019) and iPad 8 (2020). is there a difference?

On September 15, Apple released an update for its iPad 8. What has changed compared to the previous version and how the characteristics of the two iPads compare. read our article.

During the event, which took place on Tuesday September 15, all the main attention was focused on the new iPad Air 4 (2020) and Apple Watch Series 6 smartwatches, as well as their budget version of the Apple Watch SE. Behind all this, we missed a small but rather important update to the iPad 8 generation.

Of course, this update cannot be called something global, because Apple has changed almost nothing on the iPad 8, except for increasing the speed of the system. However, owners of the iPad 7 model may be wondering if the iPad 8 (2020) is good enough to upgrade or perhaps look better towards other models.

We compared the specifications of the iPad 7 (2019) and iPad 8 (2020) so you can make a practical choice for yourself.

Analysis of characteristics

This iPad 8 (2020) update is the most significant example of a minor update. This can be seen in the key characteristics that we have collected in the comparison table of the new item with the previous version of the iPad 7 (2019).

Memory

In terms of memory, nothing has changed, the new product is still available with 32 GB of internal memory and 3 GB of RAM, like the previous generation of iPad 7. A memory configuration of 128 GB is also available with 3 GB of RAM.

Performance

In the 2020 version, the big change for Apple is the replacement of the A10 processor with the Apple A12 Bionic processor manufactured using 7nm process technology. Considering the fact that in the previous generation Apple used the Apple A10 Fusion manufactured in 16nm process technology, this is a big step forward in terms of performance.

The new product uses a six-core central processor (2×2.5 GHz Vortex 4×1.6 GHz Tempest) and an Apple GPU (4-core graphics). The 2019 version comes with a 2.34GHz quad-core CPU (2x Hurricane 2x Zephyr) and a PowerVR Series7XT Plus GPU. As we can see, the frequency of the new product is higher, so applications will launch faster, and video rendering will run a little better.

Apple announced at the launch that iPad 8 (2020) offers 40% better processor performance and twice the graphics capabilities of the 2019 model.

Camera

The camera of these two iPad models is exactly the same. The main one is 8MP with f / 2.4 aperture. Also on the back is a BSI sensor and a hybrid IR cut filter. The autofocus camera is capable of capturing Live Photos, HDR photos, 43MP panoramas and offers burst modes as well as the use of a timer.

Video can still only be shot in 1080p at 30 frames per second. New iPad 7 also supports 720p slow motion 120fps.

Same with selfie camera. Apple continues to use a 1.2MP camera with Live Photos and 720p video.

Performance

It rarely happens when an iPad with a new processor comes out before a new iPhone, but what can you do. the year really turned out to be strange. iPad Air (2020) received the most sophisticated A14 Bionic chip, manufactured using a 5nm process technology. The new product is 40% more powerful in terms of CPU and 30% in terms of graphics in the previous generation iPad Air, but this can only be estimated by direct comparison. We can say for sure that such a processor will be installed in the iPhone 12.

Display

The new product received an enlarged 10.9-inch Retina display with a resolution of 2360×1640 pixels compared to the 10.5-inch Retina display with a resolution of 2224×1668 pixels in the iPad Air (2019). The pixel density did not change at the same time. 264 pixels per inch.

Both screens are LED-backlit, the standard brightness is 500 cd / m², there is an oleophobic and anti-reflective coating. The displays are fully laminated, that is, without an air gap. True Tone and wide color gamut (P3) in both devices.

Design comparison

When it comes to the iPad’s appearance, we have two completely different devices. The new iPad Air (2020) is slightly shorter in length, but slightly wider compared to the iPad Air (2019): 247.6 mm versus 250.6 mm and 178.5 mm versus 174.1 mm, respectively. The thickness remains unchanged at 6.1 mm. Weight has changed by only two grams in the version with Wi-Fi (458 grams for the new item versus 456 for last year’s model) and decreased by four grams for the version with the cellular module (460 grams versus 464 grams).

But the parameters are one thing, and the way the device looks is completely different. Before us is an almost complete copy of the 2018 iPad Pro. The bezel of the same thickness on the front panel, cut edges and a USB Type-C port for charging. There are two differences: the bezel has become slightly larger, and the power key has increased. it houses the Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

iPad Air (2020) is available in five colors: Silver, Space Gray, Rose Gold, Green, and Sky Blue. iPad Air (2019) is available in three colors: Silver, Space Gray, and Rose Gold.

Cameras

The main camera in the iPad Air (2020) is 12 megapixels with an aperture of f / 1.8. The tablet can shoot video in 4K resolution at 60 frames per second or slow-motion videos in Full HD at 240 frames per second.

iPad Air (2019) is equipped with an 8 megapixel sensor with f / 2.4 aperture. As for the video, the following: maximum resolution. Full HD at 30 frames per second and slow-motion video in HD-resolution at 120 frames per second.

The front camera has not changed: it is a 7 megapixel sensor with support for shooting videos in Full HD.

Battery

Both tablets will work on a single charge for up to 10 hours when watching videos or browsing via Wi-Fi. When working through a browser over a cellular network (if there is an appropriate module). up to 9 hours.

This figure has remained at the same level for many years, despite the increase in tablet performance and decrease in their thickness. Bravo, Apple!

Comparison of the characteristics of the iPad Air 4 (2020) and iPad Air 3 (2019)

The new fourth generation iPad Air was shown at the Apple Event presentation. Compare the new product with last year’s third generation iPad Air and figure out what to look for when buying.

This year’s major update comes with a new bezel-less design inspired by the iPad Pro, a Touch ID fingerprint reader in the power key, and support for the second-generation Apple Pencil and Magic Keyboard. Well, cherry on top. the Apple A14 Bionic processor, manufactured using a 5nm process technology.

Comparison of characteristics

A plate with a general comparison of the characteristics of devices, and now we turn to a detailed comparison for each item.

Accessories

The novelty has received a USB Type-C connector, through which you can connect 4K monitors or any other peripherals necessary for work. For example, musicians can use a tablet when recording tracks, and journalists and photographers are especially comfortable using a single adapter for connecting flash drives.

iPad Air (2020) has a magnetic mount on the side and supports the second-generation Apple Pencil. The tablet also received a new Smart Connector on the back: connect the Magic Keyboard or Smart Keyboard Folio, designed for the 11-inch iPad Pro.

iPad Air (2019) also supports Apple Pencil, but only the first version, to charge which you need to connect the stylus to the Lightning connector or use an adapter. Smart Keyboard support is.

iPad Air (2020) is available in 64GB and 256GB versions for storage. You can also choose a version with a cellular module or be content exclusively with Wi-Fi.

iPad Air (2020) is the leader for the near future and in many ways surpasses even the Pro version. However, do not discount the iPad Air (2019): it is still the same wonderful device as a year ago, which will become more affordable, which makes it more interesting.

If you do not have any iPad Air you are seriously thinking about buying. aim for a new product. A new processor, redesigned design with tons of colors to choose from, and accessories not available on the previous generation iPad Air. The tablet will serve you for many years and will undoubtedly delight you.

Prices

The new iPad has become slightly more expensive than its predecessor. The difference in price, depending on the configuration, ranges from 2 to 5 thousand rubles.

Resellers still have last year’s model on sale at a nicer price.

Accessory support

Both tablets work with the same set of accessories. Supports 1st generation Apple Pencil and Smart Keyboard.

The same goes for most third-party covers, cases, keyboards or docking stations. All of them will work with both the iPad 2020 and the old iPad 2019, the dimensions of the tablet have not changed.

To connect the charger and accessories, proprietary Lightning is used, and not the universal Type-C, as in more expensive iPad models.

All differences are brief

All the differences between iPad 2020 in one picture

As you can see, Apple’s budget tablet has received almost no significant chips and changes.

The heart of the device is the more powerful Apple A12 Bionic processor with Neural Engine instead of the older Apple A10 Fusion.

Cupertinians claim that the new iPad is 40% more productive, and graphics processing will be 2 times faster.

There are no other differences from the previous model, but the price has slightly increased over the year.

How the 8th generation iPad (2020) differs from the 7th generation iPad (2019)

One of the most boring and insignificant new products of the Apple presentation on September 15 was the updated budget iPad.

The tablet practically does not differ from its predecessor, but at the same time it began to cost a little more.

Now let’s look at the points that Cupertinians sell in the most inexpensive segment of tablets. It’s time to sell iPad and get a new model.

Camera

Although the camera in the iPad is not the most necessary module, it is a shame not to update it even in the base model of four generations. The main 8-megapixel ƒ / 2.4 matrix was installed not only in last year’s iPad 7, but also in the 6th generation tablet, and even in the iPad 2017

Familiar 5-element lens sensor supports HDR, video shooting up to 120 frames per second at 720p resolution or up to 30 frames per second at 1080p resolution.

The front camera has not changed either. 1.2MP FaceTime HD 720p video in the era of remote work and self-isolation is not good news.

The picture will be good only if there is sufficient illumination. It is better not to contact anyone by video call at night.

Iron and performance

By tradition, the new tablet has received an improved filling. iPad 8 is equipped with an A12 Bionic processor with 64-bit architecture. The previous generation iPad 7 featured a less powerful A10 Fusion.

The new iPad’s more powerful chip includes a pair of additional efficiency cores and an 8-core Neural Engine.

This gives every reason to expect a performance increase of 25-30%.

The device has a good reserve of power, which will allow it to work on new versions of iOS without much straining for at least 5 years. The predecessor, although it copes with most of the daily tasks, but after a couple of years it will begin to “choke” in difficult operating scenarios.

Other features

To identify the user, the same Touch ID scanner is used in the home button under the display. This is a long outdated slow sensor of the first generation! The sensor is exactly the same that debuted in the iPhone 5S seven years ago.

Slow sensors have given way to faster ones since the iPhone 6s, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 4. Second-generation Touch ID has been around for several years in MacBooks, but first-generation scanners are stubbornly installed in budget iPads.

The tablet, like its predecessor, is equipped with a pair of speakers, a Wi-Fi module (802.11a / b / g / n / ac) and not the newest Bluetooth 4.2.

Design and dimensions

iPad 8 is almost a complete copy of its predecessor. The dimensions are exactly the same to the millimeter, and the weight difference is less than 10 grams.

Model dimensions: 250.6 x 174.1 x 7.5 mm and weighs 490 g (Wi-Fi model). Last year’s budget tablet weighed 7 grams lighter.

Cupertinos switched to a modern frameless design in the Air line, most likely, the next generation of the budget iPad 9 will look similar.

At the moment, it is still the same rectangle with a 10.2-inch screen and large bezels on the top and bottom sides.

The matrix also remained the same. Proven Retina with 2160 x 1620 pixels at 264 ppi. The maximum brightness has not changed at 500 cd / m².

How the iPad Air (2019) differs from the iPad (2018)

The iPad Air tablet, quietly presented on March 18, surprised: firstly, Apple revived a long-forgotten line, and secondly, there were practically no changes in design.

There is no point in comparing the iPad Air (2019) with the 2014 iPad Air 2: the iPad (2018) is considered the direct predecessor. We will “confront” him with a novelty.

The differences start with the display. It has increased by almost an inch, while the dimensions of the tablet have hardly changed thanks to the reduced bezels. Although the new iPad Pro is still a long way off, the design with gigantic margins by modern standards is preserved. But iPad Air has become thinner by 1.4 mm.

Added support for True Tone technology: using sensors, the color temperature of the display is adjusted so that the image looks as natural as possible in the current environment.

The Touch ID button, the headphone jack, and stereo speakers on the bottom edge remain. But the wide plastic insert in the model with the SIM card has disappeared: it has been replaced by almost invisible stripes. Dual microphones appeared to improve sound recording.

The first generation Apple Pencil is also supported, but there is also a Smart Connector. With it you can connect the proprietary Smart Keyboard.

Apple A12 Bionic, although not the top-end chipset of the company (there is already A12X), is still in the lead in performance. There is also an updated M12 motion coprocessor, and a system for processing neural computing Neural Engine, and powerful 4-core graphics Apple GPU.

Body colors are identical: there are silver, gold and space gray option.

Iron and performance

The iPad Air is powered by the 64-bit A14 Bionic processor. There is support for the Neural Engine system.

The user can only choose between 64 GB or 256 GB drives. There is no data on the amount of RAM yet. Most likely, the tablet will receive 4 GB of RAM.

iPad Pro is powered by the 64-bit A12Z Bionic processor and Neural Engine support. All models are equipped with 6 GB of RAM, which is a very good start for the future.

The lineup has modifications for 128, 256, 512 GB and 1 TB.

The key difference between the processors in the Air and Pro models is their manufacturing technology. The A14 Bionic is made using a 5nm process technology. Such a chip will be installed in the new iPhone 12 models.

“Proshka” has a processor with a 7-nanometer process technology. Such a chip generates almost twice as much heat under load, which will require a more advanced cooling system.

Comparison of processors in single and multi-core performance tests

The iPad Air processor is a solid winner in the single-core performance test, but it does not take into account multithreading and the impact of fast RAM on information processing speed. In other words, such tasks practically do not arise for tablets during operation.

In the multi-core test, the iPad Pro processor turned out to be more powerful, but the advantage is not so significant.

Calculating the theoretical power of processors in GFLOPS

illustrative is the iGPU. FP32 test, which displays the theoretical computing performance of the processor. Based on its results, we can assume that the iPad Pro 2020 under load will show 30% more performance.

Who has better filling: if you measure only “virtual parrots”, the professional model has an advantage. For day-to-day use, both devices will perform similarly.

It is likely that the difference in the power of the processors is for LiDAR operation and image processing with a frequency of 120 Hz.

What makes the iPad Air 4 different from the iPad Pro

Together with the updated Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE presented a couple of iPad updates.

iPad 8 2020: Обзор и сравнение с iPad Air 3 / iPad 7

The budget iPad 8th generation received too few differences from its predecessor, but the new iPad Air model is radically different from its brothers in the line.

It is just right to compare with the iPad Pro, which was presented this spring. We will compare it with the younger 11-inch version of the professional tablet. IPad sales have already begun in Russia.

Display

iPad Air received a 10.9-inch Liquid Retina matrix. The resolution is 2360-by-1640 pixels and the density is 264 ppi.

READ  The difference between Samsung asset and asset 2

The maximum screen brightness is 500 cd / m². Supports True Tone technology and wide color gamut (P3).

iPad Pro (its 11-inch version) has an 11-inch Liquid Retina display with a resolution of 2388 x 1668 pixels for a similar 264 pixels per inch.

Other distinctive features include the best maximum brightness of 600 cd / m² and the presence of ProMotion technology. This is the same feature that allows you to increase the refresh rate of the screen to 120 Hz, if necessary, making the picture smoother.

Who has a better screen: of course, the Pro model has a killer feature in the form of 120 Hz support, however, not everyone needs it. Changing from another “smooth” Pro model to the Air will be tough. If you have not used a display with a similar refresh rate before, you can safely look towards the “air”.

A slight difference in the diagonal and a difference in brightness you will not feel at all.

Prices

New iPad Air models will only start shipping next month, but for all modifications are already known.

The 2020 iPad Pro has been available for purchase for a long time. At the moment, the configurations and are as follows:

So iPad Air occupies a niche in the cheaper segment, and the second model successfully competes with the most affordable iPad Pro.

Design and dimensions

The new iPad Air is the first non-pro tablet to feature an updated bezel-less design. Most likely, in a couple of years, a budget iPad and a compact “minicom” will lead to this form.

The device is almost indistinguishable from the latest iPad Pro models. If there is a massive block with a pair of cameras and a LiDAR sensor on the back of the 2020 firmware, then you can easily confuse the new Air with the 2018 Pro model.

Same sharp-edged look, one camera module on the back of the tablet, and no Home button below the display.

This design looks great. Just for the sake of it, many owners of the iPad 3-5 years ago will want to update their tablet.

Dimensions iPad Air 4: 247.6 x 178.5 x 6.1 mm. Tablet weight 458 g.

Dimensions iPad Pro 2020: 247.6 x 178.5 x 5.9 mm. Weight 471 g.

The length and width converge to a millimeter, and the thickness of the “proshka” is slightly less.

Who has better design and dimensions: the models are almost identical. That said, the slightly increased thickness of the iPad Air could even be an advantage.

It is more comfortable to hold such a tablet, the edges cut into the hand less, and the chance of bending the tablet is less. The Air range also has pink, blue and green colors.

Camera

iPad Air received one 12 MP ƒ / 1.8 main camera module. Supports 4K shooting at 24, 30 or 60 frames per second. When shooting at 1080p, you can get up to 240 frames per second.

The front panel houses a 7MP FaceTime HD camera. The maximum shooting resolution is 1080p. Strange, but the tablet does not support portrait mode and Animoji.

iPad Pro is equipped with a similar 12MP ƒ / 1.8 module with 4K up to 60fps and 1080p up to 240fps.

At the same time, the professional tablet has a second wide-angle module 10 Mp ƒ / 2.4. When taking a photo, it captures a picture with a wide angle of view and also knows how to shoot 4K video up to 60 frames per second.

The front camera is completely identical. 7 megapixels with 1080p shooting.

In addition, a LiDAR laser rangefinder is located on the main camera module, which is still useful only for a narrow circle of professionals.

Who has a better camera: Many users don’t use the camera on their iPad at all. At the same time, the capabilities of the main modules are the same for the tablets. Front camera parameters are the same except for portrait mode and Animoji.

iPad Pro has an add-on module and a LiDAR scanner, but these will only benefit a small percentage of buyers.

Other features

iPad Air can be considered innovative in terms of introducing a new fingerprint scanner. The developers built Touch ID into the device lock button on the end of the tablet.

Only the first reviews and operating experience will show the convenience of such a solution. A noticeable drawback immediately arises. it will be inconvenient to use the iPad Air with a case covering the button.

iPad Pro has more advanced and time-tested Face ID. Unlike the iPhone, it works in both portrait and landscape orientations. There will definitely not be any problems with unlocking and confirming transactions.

The tablet is equipped with four speakers versus two for the Air, which makes the sound more spacious.

Both models are equipped with a Wi-Fi 6 (802.11a / b / g / n / ac / ax) module with support for MIMO, Bluetooth 5.0 and eSIM. Both gadgets have a USB-C port for connecting accessories, Smart Connector, support for Magic Keyboard and Smart Keyboard Folio, as well as the 2nd generation Apple Pencil.

Who has more chips: in favor of the professional model, the presence of Face ID and four speakers. The rest of the devices are very similar.

All differences are brief

▶ Design. The appearance of the models is the same, the dimensions are practically the same, and the devices can be distinguished only by the camera module.

▶ Display. The diagonal differs by one tenth of an inch, on the Pro side there is support for a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a 20% higher limit of maximum brightness.

▶ Filling. Performance of the Pro model is higher in synthetic tests, in practice, both devices will perfectly cope with all daily tasks.

▶ Camera. “Proshka” benefits from the presence of an ultra-wide-angle lens, but in fact it is needed in isolated cases.

▶ Other chips. The Air loses here, due to the lack of two additional speakers and the more convenient Face ID in the Pro model.

▶ Price. Both Air models are a bargain. The most affordable one for 56 thousand is 10 thousand cheaper than the base Pro model. The 256GB model is priced similar to the 128GB iPad Pro.

Here, each customer will make their own choice: for more storage in Air or Face ID, a second camera and four speakers in Pro.

Which is better to choose. new iPad Air 2019 or 11-inch iPad Pro?

Which is better to choose. new iPad Air 2019 or 11-inch iPad Pro?

Some time ago, I wrote in detail “in general” about how the iPad Pro is better than regular iPads. In many ways, that answer will help you. Answering the question, I repeatedly made remarks that, they say, ordinary iPads are worse in this and that, but Air is different. Yes, the 2019 iPad Air is the latest generation model with many improvements. But still this is not a pro-series, of which, of course, and, of course, iPad Air 2019. from 43 thousand (official price tags, if you wish, you can find cheaper).

What is better about? Let’s compare. First, the tablets are different in appearance. The diagonals of the screens are almost identical (11 inches and 10.5 inches), but the Pro has a much smaller frame (it looks more interesting and modern), there is no Home button. There is no touch ID either, face recognition is used to unlock.

The screen resolution of the iPad Pro 11 is slightly higher than that of the iPad Air (2388×1668 versus 2224×1668 pixels), but the DPI value is identical. 264. Both screens are of high quality, without an air gap, protected from glare, laminated. The advantage of the firmware is the ProMotion technology (higher refresh rate, which is useful when working with a stylus, in games).

The iPad Pro also uses the fresh A12X Bionic processor. The regular A12 Bionic in the iPad Air isn’t bad either, but the firmware has a higher performance headroom. And there is the possibility of using “heavy” software, for example, for three-dimensional modeling.

The Pro also has more storage capacity, up to 1 TB. But such options are more expensive, of course. Well, in general, there are incomparably more storage options.

There is a difference in stylus. both models support the Apple Pencil, but the Pro is the second generation Apple Pancil. It supports gestures, attaches to iPad, and charges wirelessly. In detail, I compared the styluses here.

The iPad Pro also has Smart Keyboard Folio support. Unlike conventional Smart Keyboard, it protects the tablet from all sides like a case.

The Pro’s camera is also better (it protrudes from the back for a reason). megapixels, good stabilization (albeit digital), advanced autofocus Focus Pixels, True Tone Quad ‑ LED flash, Smart HDR image enhancement option, panoramic shooting up to 63 megapixels, 4K video recording at 30 or 60 fps. slow-motion video 1080p at 120 fps and improved stabilization.

The Pro’s front camera is also better (it’s designed for Face ID), has a portrait mode, support for Animoji and Memoji.

Also, iPads Pro are distinguished by 4 speakers located on both ends (Air has only two on one side) and a universal USB-C connector.

In general, the pro has a cooler screen, cooler cameras and sound, a more modern design, it is more powerful, supports a second generation stylus, offers more memory and USB-C. Is it worth it to overpay so much. it’s up to you.
