Redmi Note 8T review: an affordable camera phone
Naturally, Redmi Note 8T runs on Google Android operating system version 9 with MIUI 10 proprietary shell. You can read its review at the link below.
Controls and connectors
For the first time in many years of testing smartphones, I saw a double microphone hole. Usually either one or 3, 4, and so on. The two holes look odd. Next to them is a 3.5 mm jack, and to the right are USB-C and a speakerphone.
On the right is the power button and volume rocker. Small in size, with a clear and confident stroke. On the left is a non-combined SIM and memory card slot.
Above is an additional microphone and an IR transmitter. I consider the last element an atavism, but apparently Xiaomi still has stocks of these sensors. Let them “mold”, we do not mind.
On the back there is a large module with 4 cameras. There was no attempt to beat him in any way or make him smaller. It seems to me that it was possible to mount this module more gracefully into a case with a thickness of almost 9 mm. However, I began to forget that
A selfie camera and a speaker are located on the top of the front panel. The speaker is not very loud, but it sounds clear, without any extraneous sounds.
“The music didn’t play for long. “
The Redmi Note 8T uses a built-in 4000mAh lithium polymer battery. It would seem that a capacious battery is not the most gluttonous chipset. But the whole picture is spoiled by the same IPS-matrix. Here it is, the reverse side of such displays.

In video playback mode, the device shows 9 hours, and in games mode. 6 hours. For example, Vivo V17 with SuperAMOLED can play videos for 15 hours, and toys run for at least 9 hours. Yes, the V17 has a 4500mAh battery, but that’s only 500mAh more than the Redmi.
In typical use, the Note 8T will run for 15 hours. During this time, the screen glowed at automatic brightness for about 5 hours.
In the kit you will find a 5V / 3A, 9V / 2A, 12V / 1.5A power adapter. This PSU charges the Redmi battery in about 1 hour and 30 minutes.
“Music has tied us. “
The Redmi Note 8T uses one speaker. On the manufacturer’s website, these are the phrases: “Superlinear speakers 1217, Smart PA amplifier. Equivalent to a 0.93-cm³ sound chamber. ” The main thing is that everyone can appreciate the volume of the sound chamber. Is that so? 🙂
The speaker does not play very loudly, but its quality is just excellent: in some moments even low frequencies are heard. In general, the frequency range is pleasantly surprising: from 100 Hz to 15 kHz.
This model has a 3.5 mm headphone output. Therefore, you can check the quality on any headphones.
And again I am pleasantly surprised: Redmi Note 8T pumps Bose QC35 to the maximum. It has very deep lows, nice mids and excellent highs. Over the past couple of years, this particular smartphone model has been able to convey the sound picture that I like.
Don’t know who cares about radio in 2020, but it’s here.

“Now we will check them, now we will compare them”
As soon as I finished the review of Vivo V17, Redmi Note 8T was given in the text, which can be considered a more affordable analogue. Even the cameras are the same here:
- 48 MP main camera, 1/2 inch matrix, f / 1.75 aperture
- 8MP wide-angle camera, 1.12um pixel size, f / 2.2 aperture
- Macro camera 2 MP, pixel size 1.75 microns, aperture f / 2.4, autofocus
- 2MP depth sensor
- 13 MP front camera, 1.12 micron pixel size, f / 2.0 aperture
Plus Redmi lies in the autofocus macro camera module. God knows not what, but taking a photo will still be easier. In addition, the Note 8T can record 4K video.
What’s with the main camera? Shoots very well in all lighting conditions. There is little noise, almost no artifacts. In the room, the detail drops, but the picture does not deteriorate much. What pleased me most was the natural colors and the accuracy of the white balance. Below you can see comparisons with Vivo V17. The comment is as follows: the pictures on Redmi have better detail, less contour sharpness, more natural colors; Vivo’s indoor shots make the picture more colorful.
“Wide” Redmi Note 8T shoots mediocre, but better than Vivo V17, especially noticeable in the dark.
Macro photos are the same plus or minus, but Redmi has autofocus, which will help to more accurately “catch” Focus. As you understand, there is almost no sense from 2 MP frames, since it is easier to take a regular 48 MP picture and “crop” to the desired size. Below is an example. Note that the crop is from 48MP and is slightly more detailed, and better in dynamic range and color.
If you want the smoothest video possible, then switch to FullHD 60 frames. There is a slow-motion video of 240 fps.
The front camera is of high quality. Nice and accurate colors again. At night, the smartphone screen acts as a flash. Video writes in FullHD resolution.
Total: Redmi Note 8T in terms of photo and video quality made me extremely happy.
You can read about the interface in a separate review.
In the latest Xiaomi devices, there are changes and the first of them is visible immediately as soon as the box with the smartphone falls into your hands.
Redmi Note 3 is the first device from the company that comes in a box not made of dark recycled cardboard (apart from the Mi 4C, they just changed the color of the packaging). The design of the box is very similar to Apple products. the same image of the device from above, a white background and dimensions, minimally exceeding the device inside.
The filling has not undergone any changes: charging, cable, paper clip and documentation.
A 4000 mAh battery is installed in a non-separable case (1000 mAh more than in Redmi Note 2). You always expect some kind of records from smartphones with capacious batteries, but the real operating time has increased in proportion to the capacity (the rest of the components have not changed conditionally).
Under average load, Redmi Note 3 can last two full days with 4 hours of active screen. In most cases, when I used the smartphone in my usual mode, it worked for a day and a half, showing 5.5 hours of screen. Usually my usage profile includes syncing two Google accounts, using mobile internet, chatting in Viber, etc. reading. minimum phone calls, some music, YouTube videos, pedometer synchronization via Bluetooth. the load is not a record, but quite sufficient.
As in its predecessor, the Redmi Note 3 has a 5.5-inch IPS screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels. The matrix is covered by a protective glass with an oleophobic coating. Although the specifications have not changed formally, the display is better in the new smartphone. For example, this can be seen from the results of measurements with a colorimeter:
|Device / Feature||Maximum brightness, cd / m2||Minimum brightness, cd / m2||Contrast|
|Xiaomi Redmi Note 2||355||7||1: 618|
|Xiaomi Redmi Note 3||403||7||1: 863|
These changes are also visible to the naked eye. We don’t have Redmi Note 2 for direct comparison, but the screen feels more saturated and more contrasty. The oleophobic coating remains the same plus or minus. the finger glides well, and although fingerprints appear, they are easily erased.
If we evaluate the screen comprehensively, then we have a good display, with excellent viewing angles, calm natural color reproduction and excellent calibration.
You can adjust the contrast and color temperature. this is useful if you want to customize the screen for yourself. There is also a reading mode that floods the screen with yellow, which helps to reduce eye fatigue (in theory).
The display has no critical flaws. everything is fine with brightness and contrast, and with color reproduction too. However, there are nagging. it does not turn on by double tapping and lacks a mode of increased sensitivity for control with gloves, and in some situations the auto-brightness sensor overestimates the backlight level.
The smartphone has two cameras. the main one with a resolution of 13 megapixels (f / 2.2), dual-tone LED flash and phase detection autofocus and the front one with 5 megapixels (f / 2.0), both can shoot Full HD video. Compared to the last generation of changes, at least. they added a double flash and taught the “front-end” to shoot video in Full HD, judging by the pictures, the modules remained or the same.

Photos taken in automatic mode
This means that photos taken during the day, outdoors or in well-lit rooms, will be of high quality, with sufficient detail, natural color reproduction and correct white balance.
We also note the fast operation of phase detection autofocus and the traditionally high-quality implementation of the HDR mode.
Sample pictures taken with the front camera
Evening or night photos look less impressive. detail drops, focusing takes much longer. In difficult shooting conditions, inexpensive smartphones have nothing to oppose to flagships.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Обзор. ВОЛНА ХАЙПА ПРОШЛА
Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is the first device in the budget line of Redmi with a non-separable body made of metal. It is also one of the most metallic smartphones of the company, because before it was limited only to side frames, or a frame hidden under plastic, but here aluminum covers most of the back.
There are small plastic inserts below and above. they are needed for normal operation of the antennas. The arrangement of functional elements is traditional for the company, convenient. Above the screen there is a speaker, a camera, a set of sensors and a notification diode, under the display there are three touch-sensitive keys with white backlight.
On the left side there is a tray for two MicroSIMs, on the right are the power and volume keys. Above you can find a 3.5 mm jack, a noise canceling microphone and an infrared window, below. the main microphone and a MicroUSB connector. The latter, like many other Xiaomi, is shifted to the side.
The main camera, flash and fingerprint scanner were placed at the back, all of them are framed by neat bevels and are minimally recessed inside. At the bottom. a wide mesh of the multimedia speaker.
The smartphone is available in three colors: dark gray, silver and gold.
From the point of view of the build quality, there are no complaints about the device. The non-disassembly of the case automatically guarantees a certain rigidity of the structure, and the parts in our smartphone are perfectly matched to each other. However, if you set a goal, then twisting the case strongly, you can achieve minimal backlash or squeaks. this is still not an iPhone.
It is difficult to highlight any features of the ergonomics of Redmi Note 3. we have a device with dimensions typical for its diagonal screen size, average weight and body thickness. The corners are rounded, so the smartphone fits well in the palm and with a certain stretch it can be used with one hand. In winter, the skin of the hands is drier, so in some situations the body turns out to be slippery, but here everything is individual.
If we compare Redmi Note 2 and 3, then there have been many good changes in the design. Due to the non-separable body, we got rid of the squeaks and backlash of the cover, which sometimes appeared in the last generation, and thanks to the metal back, the smartphone looks and feels more expensive than it really is.
Hardware platform, fingerprint scanner
Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 was built on the basis of the MediaTek Helio X10 platform. a successful eight-core chip (Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of 2 GHz) with powerful PowerVR G6200 graphics, so they did not radically change anything in the new smartphone. Significant changes can be attributed except that the abandonment of the microSD memory card slot and the fact that the older version with 32 GB of RAM is now equipped with 3, not 2 GB of RAM. As befits a modern device, Redmi Note 3 has Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac (2.4 5 GHz), Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS / GLONASS. There is also an FM radio and an infrared port for controlling household appliances.
For the first time, a fingerprint scanner has appeared in Xiaomi products. As in the Nexus line of devices or Huawei smartphones, it is located on the back, under the camera. The company says fingerprint recognition takes 0.3 seconds. All of this is very similar to the truth.
The smartphone can store five fingerprints, and the accuracy and recognition speed is comparable to the iPhone 6s. you just need to touch the scanner, then the smartphone is unlocked, the screen turns on and you get to the desktop.
There are no complaints about the speed of the interface, the smoothness of the animation or the performance in games, this relatively budget smartphone can even compete with the flagships. But it is worth considering some gluttony of the MIUI shell, the system takes about 1 GB of RAM, so if you need a stock, it is better to give preference to the older version with 3 GB of RAM and 32 GB of ROM (we tested just this one).
