Installation and connection of a rear view camera on Skoda Rapid

When maneuvering in cramped conditions, the driver may not notice obstacles and allow a collision. Additional means of improving visibility are used to reduce the likelihood of an accident. The owner can carry out an independent installation of the rear view camera on Zhal Rapid. This device will complement the standard parking sensors.

Standard camera

The stock camera is installed on parts of the produced Skoda Rapid cars. The device is mounted on the luggage compartment lid next to the unlocking handle and is equipped with a nozzle to remove a layer of dirt from the surface of the wide-angle lens. The product is connected to the main multimedia device, activation occurs automatically when the reverse gear is engaged. An ultrasonic parking assistant works in tandem with the camera, which detects obstacles located outside the field of view of the lens.

Analogs

To use a non-original viewing device, you will need to install multimedia equipment equipped with a video input. The camera is mounted on the surface of the rear license plate backlight or a device with a housing is used to replace the lamp. There are products that copy the original design, for installation you will need to replace the standard handle for opening the luggage compartment lid.

The disadvantage of the above equipment is the lack of a washer fluid supply nozzle. There are devices equipped with LED backlighting. The owners do NOT recommend purchasing such products due to the distortion of the color background of the broadcast picture. Chinese products are equipped with communication cables with connecting plastic plugs of the “tulip” type, the use of cords with increased length is allowed.

How to install and connect

Before installing the camera, you must remove the decorative panel located on the inside of the luggage compartment lid. The part is attached to a plastic piston, which are carefully removed with a mounting blade. Then it is required to pass the connection cables through the metal frame of the cover and through a special rubber sleeve located on the top of the element (near the hinges). Some owners pass the cords through a technological hole in the body, closed with a rubber plug.

For further connection, you will need to dismantle the handle or lamp shade. To remove the handle, it is required to remove the outer rubber cover, then the inner part of the element is removed from the seat. The non-original rearview camera made in China is dimensionally accurate and may need to be trimmed and adjusted to the housing or connectors. The unit installed on the backlight is attached with a sealant to prevent the contacts from flooding with water.

The video signal cable is routed through the passenger compartment to the main unit or additional monitor, which is mounted on the dashboard. Cables are placed under internal plastic sheathing installed on sills or bottom of racks.

It is recommended to lay the products in parallel with the standard wiring harness; plastic clamps are used for additional fixation.

The camera kit includes a power cable harness, and the positive cable activates the signal transmission when reverse gear is engaged. The element is connected to the reversing lamp socket, the negative signal is taken from the earth bolt located under the luggage compartment skins. Before starting to use it is recommended to check the correctness of the distance transmitted by the camera.

In addition to the camera, it is recommended to install parking sensors (if the kit is not provided), which provide an overview of the corners of the bumper. The device is connected to a separate control unit. A signal from the reversing lamp is used to turn it on. To display the distance, a separate indicator panel with a buzzer is used, which is installed on the instrument panel. The standard unit is equipped with a buzzer, the distance to the obstacle is displayed on the display of the head acoustic unit.
