Universal devices are mounted in the bumper or on the glass of the door from the side of the passenger compartment. In all cases, the scope of delivery includes:

  • camera;
  • video cable extension from the eyepiece to the monitor;
  • power connection wire;
  • cutters.

If the car does not have an information display screen, then additionally purchase a monitor.

In addition to transmitting an image of the traffic situation behind the car, the camera shows static parking markings. graphical fixed lines that are superimposed on the image. They are used to calculate the approximate distance to the obstacle. functional models have dynamic markings (intelligent parking systems) that track the position of the front wheels. That is, when you turn the steering wheel, the lines will display the estimated trajectory of the vehicle.

The camera angle of view (120-170 °) allows you to cover a large area, but reduces the clarity of the picture.

Experts believe that the image obtained from the device with an angle of 120 ° will be sufficient for safe parking maneuvers.

The image quality depends on the resolution of not only the camera, but also the monitor. Its value should be 480-540 TV lines. The image is displayed either on the MMC screen or on the monitor. The disadvantage of the cameras is the matrix with a resolution of 0.3 megapixels.

Installation and connection

Due to the fact that the lock on the loading doors is completed only on vans, the mortise chamber is most often installed in the place of the lock larva. A hole is made in the plastic cover with a complete cutter. To do this, you do not need to dismantle it. In a regular place, the video camera is fixed with clamps located on the device body. To lay a loop of power and video signal wires, remove the inner lining of the left half of the door. It attaches with clips and Torx screws.

Inside the passenger compartment, wires are led through a corrugated pipe. The “tulip” of the video cable must be cut, since the dimensions of the corrugated hose do not allow it to be passed along with the cable. You need to know that a video camera does not provide a complete guarantee of safety, therefore, when performing maneuvers, the traffic situation must be monitored by all available means.

To remove the outer door trim, you need to unscrew the two bolts on the left and two nuts on the right (when viewed from the inside of the door).

However, it is impossible to unscrew one of the bolts without removing the wiper. The windshield wiper, according to a strange idea of ​​the designers, is attached to rivets that must be drilled with a large drill.

For re-installation, I used bolts with nuts and washers M6.

A cutter is included with the camera, we drill two layers of plastic through it and push the wires inside. The camera snaps into place and sits firmly.

In fact, all this hemorrhoids could have been avoided, but I did not know if there was anything inside this lining, I was afraid to damage it. You can drill a hole and install the camera without removing the cover and wiper!

Then it was necessary to carry out the wiring through the corrugation, but it turned out to be unrealistic to push the “tulip” through it! The corrugation and wires are frozen in the cold! I had to wrap everything up for a while with electrical tape and wind the wires to the corrugation, there is no other way.

Later I bought a collapsible RCA connector on the radio market in Mitino, cut the cable, passed it through the corrugation and soldered the connectors.

Then, on the left side, all the plastic pillars of the pillars, the armrest and the lower cup holder of the third row, as well as the second and third row seat belts had to be removed in order to pass the video cable behind the wheel arch and further under the floor trim along the left threshold and along the front pillar lining under the headliner.

We remove the coil of the belt of the third row, here we stretch the wire from the lantern and further behind the wheel arch to the hole of the coil of the second row.

Remove the clips, the second row belt, the seat retainer and the third row cup holder.

To prevent the video cable from dangling and knocking on the body, I tied it to this harness in several places. To say that this whole procedure is hemorrhoids is to say nothing. In fact, there is nothing complicated, just a lot of self-tapping screws, clips and bolts will have to be unscrewed and pulled out. And the lining of the rear pillars in general, as it turned out, could not be removed. In total, I spent two days on this, without a garage, in a light frost, with a very short daylight hours.

I connected the camera power wires to the wires of the left reversing light (see the logbook, everything is there for converting the rear PTF into a reversing light).

The rear-view picture in the mirror is quite normal, although after I connected everything and aligned the peephole, a small drawback of this method of installing the camera was discovered, namely the absence of the edge of the bumper in the field of view. The camera just doesn’t go lower. Thus, the bottom edge of the image on the monitor approximately corresponds to the distance from the bumper in 20-30 cm (this is measured at the height of the bumper), in general, you have to get used to.

I must say almost immediately the idea appeared to put another switch to activate the camera when driving straight, especially since there is another wire in the video cable to activate the radio tape recorder with a monitor. To do this, you need to make a decoupling with diodes so that the reversing lights do not light up when the camera is turned on. And then there will be a surprise for the cars driving behind! The switch also cut into the back wall of the standard mirror to the right of the monitor switch.

Any diodes can be installed, taking into account a current of 300-400 mA. I soldered them in a triangle and hid them in a box, wrapped wires and a box in Bitoplast, otherwise they knocked hard on the door.

In general, I am satisfied with the purchase, especially since all this economy cost me 3180 rubles, although before the fall of the ruble the price was even lower! Over time, I think I will buy a more expensive recorder with a better picture, but for now this is more than enough. I must say that the camera does not eliminate the need to look in the rear-view mirrors or even turn back, in fact, it helps in two cases: when parking and driving back in the dark, when nothing is visible through tinted windows.

In order not to encounter “squint”, you should not install such a camera on cars where the license plate is off-center. These are, for example, vans with swing doors and SUVs with a side opening door. For many cars, video cameras are offered, combined with a plafond for license plate illumination. They are the easiest to install, they look aesthetically pleasing, but with similar characteristics, they are more expensive than others.

When choosing a camera, you should pay attention to the video signal standard. PAL or NTSC. The standards of the camera and the display should not differ, otherwise, as the saying goes, “there will be no kiná”.
