Advantages and disadvantages
Logitech cameras have their own characteristics, but almost all of them are positive. If you want to purchase any of the models, you should study the company as a whole and see what the advantages and disadvantages of the products are.

- A high resolution. You can buy cameras with different characteristics, but everywhere the resolution will be from 1280×720 to 3840×2160, which allows you to get clear frames both in photographs and in recordings.

- Motion Sensor. This function allows you to record actions in motion, turn on and off the backlight, and also sound when the camera detects movement. Wide angle of view allows you to deviate from the center of the camera, but stay in the frame.
- Zoom. Allows you to shoot any room, focusing on every detail. Even in the largest conference room, there will be no problem with small and blurry images. However, all this needs to be configured through special programs, which is done in a couple of minutes.
- The material from which the body is made. Cameras are black, made of material that will not scratch at all and salesmen will not be scratched when hit, but you still need to be careful.
- Possibility to return the camera to 360 degrees. Allows you to shoot from any corner of the room by rotating the webcam as needed for perfect shots.
- Long wire. This feature makes it possible to use the webcam at a considerable distance (1.5 meters) from the computer.
There are very few disadvantages, but still they are.
- High price of some models. Despite the fact that the price corresponds to the quality, it does not please everyone. User’s manual

If you suddenly need additional drivers, you can find them on the official website, but before that you need to find out and indicate for which model the program.
Then you need to connect the device and configure it. The setup is very simple. there is almost nothing to do. After connecting the camera to the computer, the installation window will appear. Configuring your Logitech QuickCam Messenger webcam on Linux
I have long wanted to buy a similar device (webcam), but I was too lazy and didn’t get my hands on it. Until my old friend gave me this miracle for my birthday. How to configure a WEB-camera in Linux with half a kick. Will be said here.
Training
Several Preliminary Notes. If you did NOT assemble it yourself, you can skIP this part.
Note that the camera is in Linux. The same device as the TV-Tuner. Therefore, all comments on the TV-Tuner are valid. If you have a distribution kernel. Everything is already included there, but for fans of self-assembled kernels, you need to enable:

3. Communicate
The freshly connected device can now be used in Wengophone for conferences with friends and colleagues. I must say that the processor loads image processing from the camera very weakly, no more than 4-5% (at least on my laptop).
In addition to communicating in VoIP systems, you can stretch your imagination and find many interesting uses for webcams. You can use this device as a security camera or telemetry: the streamer will treat it like a regular tuner and pull images from there at specified intervals. All in all, many uses.
Outcome
Despite the fact that the box says only about the only operating system on Planet Earth, Logitech QuickCam Messenger works fine on Linux. And it is configured in the same three steps. Minus hundreds of megabytes of useless GoProprietary garbage.

I have this same camera for a year already. In ubuntu, dapper installed the driver itself, in edgy. From rap sources then module assistant, to feisty. Out of the box, in gutsy too.
There are problems with it: the gspca / spca5xx drivers (in ubuntu gutsy / feisty) do not support all its settings. They DO NOT know how to change the frame rate between 25 and 30 Hz (flickering of light sources), the white balance adjustment does not seem to work either. It does NOT know how to shoot in vga resolution with a frequency of 30 frames. Switching permission to move camoramu, ekiga still lives after that, but not for long.
In addition to camorama, there is also cheese. it is simpler, knows how to write. There are some effects.

If you did NOT compile the kernel yourself (and most likely you did), then for standard distribution kernels, it is enough to install the gspca-modules-VERSION package (you can find out your kernel version by running the uname.R command). In this case, you do not need to collect anything yourself. That’s what I do 🙂
After that, my Nameless Camera worked in Camorama and Skype. The required module is loaded automatically when the camera is connected.
Ps. Think of modules as “drivers”. Each of them is a separate file, which the system can connect if necessary. Automatic or forced (by modprobe command). In the case of Linux, most device modules are usually distributed as-is and are included in the standard kernel distribution. In rare cases, they need to be installed / assembled separately.
