Before starting the configuration, it is advisable to update the AirCam with the latest AirCam firmware.v1.1.3

Then, to enter the AirCam web interface, you need to find out its IP address. On the camera box, the default IP is, but if the address was assigned to the camera by the DHCP server, it will of course be different. Therefore, in order not to puzzle over the IP address, it is better to download the special utility UBNT Discovery v2.3. which will identify the device by MAC address and give its IP.

After we find out the IP-address of the camera, we type it in the address bar of the browser. The entire AirVision program works and is configurable from a browser. In the authorization window that appears, enter the default login and password: ubnt (login), ubnt (password). After successful input, we get to the first Main tab, where we find out general information about AirCam (MAC address, device name, firmware version, connection time, network parameters), below there are several subsections of additional information. Here we can also view the image from the camera.

Next, go to the Video tab.

Here we make the necessary settings:

  • Bit Rate, Kbit / s. this value is responsible for the stream output by the camera, the higher, the better the video quality, but the greater the network load. With a wireless connection, for example, using outdoor Nanostation access points), brakes are possible at high bitrates.
  • Frame Rate, fps. the value of frames per second, using this parameter you can also reduce the network load

Go to the Network tab, which contains the network settings.

Here you can switch the static IP address to automatically distributed via DHCP and set the standard network settings of the AirCam IP camera.

Next, let’s take a look at the software from Ubiquiti AirVision. Briefly about its capabilities.

The main thing that many are interested in is the ability to record using a motion detector, AirVision allows you to implement it using the NVR program, which performs the functions of a video recorder. It has the ability to select a zone in the image and bind various recording functions to it (for example, recording by motion), displaying the load on the processor. We used AirVision software version 1.0.2. although the latest available version is already AirVision 1.0.4

Also, in order to record video from the camera, you need to install the AirVision-NVR program. Which can be downloaded from the official site. After successfully installing the software, we get to the AirVision 1.0.2 menu, where we place the cameras on the map we loaded. Also, when the NVR software is running, the server is displayed, where all recording will be made. There can be several such servers and one IP camera can be recorded on several computers at once.

Next, we configure each AirCam IP camera. To do this, we will click on any camera and select the tool icon. If you need to organize a recording, you will need a video recorder. then in the NVR Assignment field, select the IP of the computer on which the NVR software is installed. In the Record Mode field, select Motion record.

The Connection tab gives us a menu of network settings.

In the Live View menu, you can see the picture from each camera. You can also create a group of AirCam cameras that will display video on a multiscreen.

The Devices tab displays information about connected devices, the time of their connection, the stream from each camera, and also indicates the processor load. The average flow rate from each camera was 256 Kb / s. Typical CPU utilization when 4 IP cameras are connected is approximately 60-70%, this value was obtained from AirVision. We used the following computer as a server: 3.1 GHz Core i3 processor, 3 GB RAM, Windows XP Professional SP3.

In the Statistics menu, you can view the entire network load and activity of each zone. Statistics are shown with a resolution of 1280×720, motion recording was set on each camera. Bit Rate, Kbit / s in the software differs significantly from the traffic directly on the web-interface of the camera, which is a small misunderstanding due to certain circumstances. Also here you can see the frequency of the detector’s response to a certain zone.

On the Recordings tab, you can view recorded events from any camera and selected zone.

In addition to the native software, the Aircam IP camera is supported by the Russian cloud service IVIDEON. Now the service is available for free to any user. If you have one server and no more than 2 IP cameras are connected to it, you can use the cloud service completely freely, without any monthly fee.

You just need to register on the IVIDEON service, download the server software from the site, install it on your computer and add your IP cameras there. In this case, you will be able to view both the online broadcast from the camera and the archive recorded on your computer.
