Google Camera. full instructions in Russian!
Xiaomi smartphones have had mediocre software in the camera for a long time, so their devices, having good optical modules, gave NOT the best photos.
The situation changed in 2018. Xiaomi flagship phones entered the TOP 10 camera phones according to DxOMark. Even budget models from the “Redmi” series began to take photos and write videos of much better quality due to updated algorithms and the integration of artificial intelligence.
Google camera
There is a way to make any Xiaomi phone take better pictures. And much more, especially in low light conditions. To do this, you need to install Google Camera. ported camera app from Google Pixel smartphones and activate the magic HDR mode.
This mode, without exaggeration, will bring the photo capabilities of the device from the middle price segment almost to the level of flagships.
However, not all so simple. It is easy to do this on expensive solutions from Xiaomi, but the owners of “state employees” will have to tinker. Below you will find a complete Russian-language guide for installing Google Camera and activating the Camera2 API on Xiaomi (HAL3).
The manual has been tested on most popular Xiaomi phones: Redmi Note 4X, Redmi Note 5, Redmi 5 Plus, Mi 6, Pocophone F1, Mi 8 worthy models.
Why switch to Google camera?
The main advantages of Google Camera over the stock version:
- Cool electronic stabilization in video;
- Significantly improved detail and dynamic range (DD, the camera’s ability to simultaneously capture and render light and dark parts) in photos taken in all conditions;
- Unique “Night Sight” mode, which makes night photos much brighter and clearer.

Let’s take a closer look at HDR mode.
How HDR and HDR work?
Standard HDR mode stands for High-Dynamic Range (in the translation from English. Wide dynamic range). It was designed to expand the DD, which is narrow for all smartphones due to the design features of the matrix. The essence of his work is as follows: when a photo is taken, the camera takes three photos instead of one.
- First. with standard exposure.
- Second. overexposed, that is, with very high brightness throughout the frame, which allows you to capture dark areas that are poorly captured at a normal exposure level.
- Third. underexposed. With its help, algorithms capture sectors that are too light in normal mode.
Then these photos are combined into one to combine the best information from intersected and dark areas to create a picture where they will be equally well displayed.
HDR (High-Dynamic Range Low noise) works in much the same way, but with a much more complex algorithm. He uses a fast shutter speed and takes a lot more photos, and only underexposed (from 15 to 30), sorts them and selects the best one for the base. Then it overlays data from the rest, the most successful.
Therefore, photos are NOT blurry, and powerful noise reduction perfectly removes digital noise, which is why you can get a beautiful image even at night. Algorithms often change, improve, and so far no manufacturer has “surpassed” this development.
Now Google has combined HDR with ZSL (Zero Shutting Lag). It forces the camera to continuously capture 15 to 30 photos. At the moment of pressing the shutter release, the algorithm selects the optimal frames from the buffer and glues them together. Thus, it is possible to get a NOT blurry picture, and instantly.
Night Sight Mode Does Wonders
The quintessence was the emergence of the “Night Sight” mode, based on machine learning and even more sophisticated HDR. He does wonders for taking bright, highly detailed photographs in very dark places. Sometimes they are even unnaturally bright. Also, sometimes the algorithm “fails” and makes mistakes.
Other advantages of GCam
There are some more interesting modes that can make you install Google camera on Xiaomi.
Motion
The camera mode is similar to “Live Photo” found in iOS. When you activate this function and take a photo, it is accompanied by a short video.
Smartburst
Suitable for shooting dynamic scenes, for example, while watching sports events. If you press and hold the shutter button for a few seconds, the camera will shoot continuously, and then automatically select the sharpest and most successful shot.
Slow Motion
Slow motion. The maximum frame rate depends on the smartphone model. For example, in Redmi Note 5 it is 120 FPS.
Sphere
The function allows you to get 360-degree panoramas of everything around you.
Portrait
Image with blurred background. At first glance, it may seem that there is nothing special about it, but it knows how to take pictures with HDR, and to separate the background, it does not need a second camera. Works with main and front cameras. Images are of excellent quality.
Google Lens
This add-on analyzes everything in front of the lens. For example, it can be used to translate text on a sign or determine the name of a tree by simply taking a photo of it.
How to install a Google camera on a Xiaomi phone?
It’s sad that Google’s camera needs an activated Camera2 API to work, but the Chinese manufacturer did NOT want to enable it in cheap smartphones. However, this does not apply to flagships, it works there, and it is enough to download the GCam application, install it and use.
Installation on phones with working Camera2 API
Before you start, you need to make sure that HAL3 is ready for work.
1) Download Manual Camera Compatibility app from Google Play.
2) Run it and make sure your gadget passes the test.
If everything is fine, skip the next step and proceed to installing the application.
Installing Gcam on phones without Camera2 API enabled
Attention! To activate HAL3, you need an unlocked bootloader, as well as Root rights or custom recovery.
There are three ways to enable the Camera2 API. Let’s analyze each of them.
1) Download the document “Camera_2API_addon-1.Zip”.
2) By entering TWRP Recovery.
3) Click “Install”. “The folder where the file was saved”.
4) Select an activator.
5) move the slider to start installation.
6) tap on the item “Reboot system”.
2) Open it and grant Root access.
3) In the search bar, kill “persist” and look for the term “persist.Camera.HAL3.Enabled”.
4) Click on it and instead of “0” put “1”.
5) If the term is not found, you need to manually register it.
6) tap on the pencil icon.
7) Scrolling to the bottom.
8) Add the line “persist.Camera.HAL3.Enabled = 1”.
1) Get Root rights through Magisk.
2) download the file “Magisk-Camera2api_enabler.Zip” to the mobile.
3) Go to Magisk Manager through the shortcut on your desktop.
4) Open the side menu and tap on “Modules”.
5) Click on the “”.
6) Select the downloaded document.
7) Wait for the installation to finish and click “Restart”.
8) It remains to choose the appropriate version of the camera.
Where to download GCam?
First of all, we recommend that you study the forum threads of your device. There will be recommendations for installing an optimized version of the program for it.
Try the recommended versions and download one of them.
Open the.apk file and install (if prompted to install an installation from unknown sources. I allow).
I give him all permissions.
At the top toggle to “HDR” or “Enchanced HDR”.
Try to take a photo.
How to set up Google Camera?
It is extremely difficult to give recommendations for adjusting parameters. You need deep knowledge of smartphone optics and options in order NOT to spoil anything. Plus, the mods are different from each other. Some allow to regulate almost all aspects, others are simplified as much as possible.
Xiaomishka offers to activate and change only the basic parameters. Also Use the mod’s recommended presets, which are sometimes written on the site and marked with the tag “Suggested settings”.
How to take a beautiful photo on your phone?
If you want to get the highest quality photo (you need a tripod or a support to prevent the smartphone from moving), do the following.
1) In “Auto exposure mode” switch to Min.ISO.
2) In “HDR Options”. “Super high”.
3) In “Image quality”. “97%”.
Make sure that the device does NOT shake during shooting. It will take a long time to process, but you will get the perfect shot even at night. Almost no noise and great detail. Do not forget to return the default settings later.
An example of a photo on Redmi Note 5 and comparison with a photo taken on other devices. This clearly demonstrates the advantages of GCam and the potential that it reveals even in an inexpensive device. Pay attention to the quality of the picture from version 6.1.021, where the “Night Sight” mode was activated.
Try different modifications, experiment with the configuration and you can get great photos on the main and front cameras.

But as I already wrote, there will still be 16 megapixel photos:
To be honest, there is practically no point in putting this camera on the Note 8 Pro, I don’t see it yet, at least Until the modes with the maximum megapixels work. And I also liked the results of the photo more on the standard application.
How to install Google Camera Mod on Redmi K20 Pro. 1 min
The world’s first Redmi flagship, the Redmi K20 Pro, has finally arrived in India and, to be honest, apart from smartphones, it has a fairly roomy set of three cameras. The Redmi K20 Pro includes the popular 48MP main camera, a 13MP ultra wide-angle lens and an 8MP telephoto lens. While we know Xiaomi’s camera performance is quite commendable, there is nothing better than a great Google Camera mod (GCam mod) that can help improve the experience.
So, if you have purchased Redmi K20 Pro and are looking for the best Google camera mod (GCam mod) for this budget flagship, then you have come to the right place. Let’s see how you can install Google Camera mod on Redmi K20 Pro:
Install Google Camera Mod on Redmi K20 Pro
Before installing the Google Camera mod on the Redmi K20 Pro, I would like to show you that Xiaomi offers full Camera2API support out of the box. The screenshot (from the Camera2 API Probe app) shows that the K20 Pro is Level_3 compliant, which means it supports RAW capture and YUV processing.
The best part of the Redmi K20 Pro is that it is level 3 compliant is that you don’t need to go through rooting your device and can directly install google camera mods to your device. Now, to install the Google camera mod, follow these steps:
Follow this link and download the URNYX05 Gcam mod, which is a camera mod for the flagship Xiaomi Mi 9, but also works well with the Redmi K20 Pro. This is because both devices have the same camera setup.
Note: Redmi K20 has a similar camera setup, so this Google 9 mod for Google Camera should work well on this device too.
Once you’ve installed the Google Camera mod, there are a few things that you absolutely need to tweak to get the most out of this camera mod. Go to the Advanced option and turn on the Show Buttons option and then to the Telephoto and Widescreen options in the Assistant Camera setting. Your viewfinder will look like this:
We’ve been testing the Google Camera mod on our Redmi K20 Pro ever since the review unit arrived in our offices. The best in this fashion. that “Night Sight” works even for a selfie camera. Check out some of the samples we clicked on:
While most of the features work well in this camera mod, there are some known issues like lens distortion on an ultra wide angle lens, lack of slo-mo video support, EIS support, and more. Most important, however, is that camera settings are only accessible from the main camera view, not from a TV camera or wide-angle camera.
Well, there are minor annoyances that should NOT really affect your camera experience, so DO NOT wait, click on some awesome photos and DO NOT forget to use the #ShotforBeebom hashtag when you post on Instagram.
How to install Google Camera on Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro. 1 min
Google Camera Mod. best thing that happened to budget smartphone photography in recent years.
The only issue with Google Camera Mod or GCam is that it does NOT work with all devices. It is especially difficult to find a suitable GCam mod for Redmi devices like the latest Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro.
While there is a way to install GCam on any Android device, the process is a little more complicated and not for everyone. This is why we are always on the lookout for simple GCam APKs that make the installation process easier.
We regularly test several GCam mods from different developers and we finally found the GCam mod best suited for Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro.
The best part is that since these devices are already equipped with the Camera2 APIs enabled, you don’t need to root them to use the GCam mod.
So, if you have a Redmi Note 7 or Note 7 Pro, here’s how you can install the Gcam mod on your device.
Install Google Camera (GCam) on Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro
Download GCam APK and open the APK file. The device may prompt for your permission when installing a third-party app. Just click on settings and grant permission.
Go back and click on the install button, After the installation is complete, click the “Open” button to launch the application.
On Redmi Note 7 GCam works flawlessly. Both Portrait and Night modes work without changing the default settings. Only slow motion is not currently working, which can be fixed in the coming days.
However, there is a slight saturation issue on the Redmi Note 7 Pro as images are blurry. But don’t worry, this problem is easy to fix.
Fixing GCam saturation issues on Redmi Note 7 Pro
To fix this problem, just go to camera settings and open GCam settings.Scroll down and open saturation settings.
Here you need to change the default values to 2.0 and 2.4 for the front and rear cameras. Next, close the GCam application and restart it. GCam app will now work seamlessly on Redmi Note 7 Pro.

How to install Google Camera on Xiaomi Redmi Note 7?
Google Camera. is an advanced photo and video enhancement app from the creators of the Android operating system. The app is supported out of the box by Pixel smartphones, flagships from LG, Samsung, OnePlus, as well as a number of models from Xiaomi, including the budget line Redmi Note 7 and, possibly, Redmi Note 8. Camera support by default makes the installation process easier, however a series of manipulations should be performed for him, which will be instructed in detail by Y.Ua.
What is Google Camera Mod and why you need it
Google Camera is a system hardware application that mediates between the device and third-party software. The functionality of such a camera is wider than that of other stock Android applications, and makes it possible to access the data of the existing camera. Its installation provides:
HDR mode support;
Improved quality of night shooting mode;
Improved digital zoom;
Zero shutter function;
Shooting in RAW format for post-processing;
Gcam’s capabilities do NOT end there and offer a large list of additional features.
How Google Camera works
Most of the cameras of modern smartphones have a small sensor size and insufficient dynamic range coverage. The program has a unique algorithm that helps to unleash the potential of the device’s camera even in difficult conditions. It is aimed at depriving the image of noise, increasing detail and improving the quality of color reproduction. After the camera takes a picture with a standard exposure level for itself, it creates a series of frames with overexposed and darkened areas, which are then superimposed on each other and combined using this method. The result is a high-quality picture in both daylight and evening light, with detailed details and a clear exposure.
Checking Google Camera support by default
But not all gadgets support the full program package. To find out if an app is active on your device, you need to install Camera2 API Probe through Google Play. The application contains data on the technical part of your camera, but to check Gcam support, we are only interested in the Hardware support level item, which will have one of the following designations:
Legacy. only the functionality of the old version is available;
Limited. some functions of the new version of Camera2 API are open;
Full. full support for the new version;
Level 3. Support for basic and advanced Camera2 API functions.
If you see green check marks with the last two statuses, then your smartphone supports the installation of the full program package.
Installing Google Camera on Redmi Note 7
The owners of the Redmi Note 7 smartphone are very lucky, because their gadget supports the default Google camera application. No, this does NOT mean that you can turn on the phone and use it right away, you have to make a few simple “gestures”:
Go to the forum w3bsit3-dns.com in the resource with the theme Celsoazevedo.
Select the required format of the archived executable files-applications in the latest modification.
Install the GCam APK app and open it.
When prompted for permission to install, turn the toggle to yes.
Proceed with the installation and configure the camera functions as desired.
Potential cameras after installed Gcam
The camera of the presented model itself is improved and produces excellent images at its 48 megapixels. However, the installed program is able to improve the light balance, make frames richer, effectively play with shadows and enhance details. In addition, Google Camera Mod helps the camera record 4K videos with positive stabilization and good quality.
The activated Night Sight mode is able to take more detailed and illuminated photos in the evening light. Front camera shots in portrait mode will be able to produce a Significant difference with proper white balance, improved color reproduction, enhanced depth and background blur. It is not yet known whether the Redmi Note 8 Pro will receive Gcam support by default, but one can only imagine what level the picture quality will reach with its 64-megapixel camera.
Fixing problems with Gcam on Redmi Note 7
Impeccable photo quality is not always available to the user after installation. You can face the problem of saturation and blur, lack of detail and clarity. If this happened with your smartphone, to fix the problem you should:
Go to camera settings and open saturation adjustments.
Change the value to 2.0-2.4 for the main and front cameras.
Close the program and restart.
For even clearer images, you can change the HDR mode to HDR Enhanced. The software application contains many settings, which can be adjusted according to your needs. For example, set HDR for portrait modes, disable zoom, adjust temperature, and more.
Expanded mode check
You can find out if the installation was correct and check the extended program support for Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro cameras using the Manual Camera Test application:
Download the program from the Play Market.
Open and go to the Test Results section.
If green check marks are displayed on all positions, then everything is done correctly.
Also note that in case of flashing the device or returning it to factory settings, the Google Camera installation and function settings will need to be repeated.
The proprietary Google Camera application contains many unique features that are not available in other programs. Its installation is recommended for everyone who needs to create “raw” RAW files for work with photomontage and users who want to improve the quality of everyday shots.
How to install Google Camera on Xiaomi
As written in a review article on the w3bsit3-dns.com forum, maestro B-S-G did something outstanding in two evenings. He made changes, or more correctly, modified a well-known application and, in a sense, defeated the nondescript photographs taken by the 2APi camera. Installing Google Camera on Xiaomi immediately became a Primary task.
Pros and cons of the app
The first and biggest plus of the app is the HDR mode. This means that the phone’s camera will be able to take better pictures in the dark. Will add aperture to the frame and illuminate what used to be a dark spot. Relevant for budget versions where the stock camera does NOT work in the best way, and that’s putting it mildly.
The next moment is connected with filming. The application has built-in EIS, electronic stabilization. Now moving objects are captured with sufficient detail, and not blurry, since many people forget to keep manual focus constantly. Not relevant for flagships sporting this option, and even in an optical version. But those with fairly average cameras in a smartphone will be surprised. Photo and video quality will jump up. It will NOT reach the leaders, but it will please the eye, that’s for sure. In addition to stabilization, the video will be affected by the improvement of contrast and sharpness, this algorithm is also built into the application.
The Bokeh effect, a new feature with which all and sundry are worn. This is a Portrait shot with a blurred background. Looks impressive if you need to emphasize the main thing. Usually implemented on smartphones with dual rear cameras, but our app can handle this too.
Panoramic shots are of better quality, however, in a panoramic 360-degree panorama, the photo stitching is a little rough.
Summing up the positive results:
- Works quickly and stably. The photo is taken even without preliminary processing, instantly.
- The video is more detailed, there are fewer blurry objects in the frame.
- There are more options for customization than in the cellular application, there are additional options such as the Bokeh effect.
- In general, a general improvement in the quality of photo and video shooting is noticeable.
But in every barrel of honey there is a fly in the ointment.
- Requires Android 7.0 or higher. It is not known whether it will work on your device, you need to check. The reason why Google camera HDR is not installed. Perhaps it is hidden in the firmware on the phone. Will definitely work on the global version.
- DOES NOT work on smartphones with dual cameras.
- Installation is fraught with certain difficulties, which will be discussed below. over, the first method, without ROOT rights, in general, puts the application next to the stock one, and does not replace it. This is inconvenient and error-prone to use. Also, any system update will remove it completely. It needs to be restored. Alternatively, you can switch to a stable system, you will not have to return so often.
- You will have to download a lot of additional patches, mods, programs, drivers and other stuff. But maybe all this is interesting to you?
Installing Google camera without root rights
Cheerful boys fervently explain to the people how to install an application on a Xiaomi phone without root rights. YouTube is full of carbon-copy videos. But they all sin the same thing.
Repeat each other and look at one single phone. Xiaomi Mi A1. over, it is argued that this procedure is possible only for this model and more (!) For no other.
And all because some advanced Spaniard posted his video and showed how to act on A1. We are still Russians and will NOT trust Spaniards, as well as vigorous advanced boys, but try to cover the entire range of Xiaomi phones.
The installation itself must be on a device with an unlocked bootloader and from custom recovery. I found the simplest (shodo) way that solves everything at once.
- Unlocking the bootloader. I recommend using the old MI account, you don’t need any permission, once a month you can unlock one device. Look at here.
- Download custom recovery to your computer. Unpack the TWRP archive and drop it at the root of the C drive. The folder name must be in Latin.
- Download 2 files to your phone: 1 and 2. The second, in fact, is camera 2 API (Google).
- We start the process: run the bat file from the folder with TWRP. In the command line window, select 1.
- We transfer the phone to the fastboot: press the volume down and press the power key simultaneously.
- The computer will see the phone and immediately start the TWRP firmware mode.
- After the firmware, the smartphone will reboot from the fastboot to the new recovery, disconnect the phone from the computer.
- In TWRP, select Install, alternately select both files and put them on the phone.
- At the end, we carry out System reboot.
- The phone will reboot and you can put the mod from Google camera. This is a simple l file for Android.
It’s all over. No further action is required. The difference between these instructions is that you launched TWRP once, without installation. The end result is one. the appearance of a new camera application, it will stand next to the drain.
How to install as root
Basic installation method. In this case, the stock application disappears, and there are no conflicts between the old one and the new one. In principle, this method is recommended to everyone, without exception. Its limitations are significant, the following issues must be resolved before starting the installation:
- Unlocking the bootloader. This was described earlier in the article;
- Getting root rights by installing custom recovery.
If you already have all this, then go ahead:
- Download the modified Google camera application. Huge selection from a trusted source. DO NOT search in the Play Store, you will not find.
- The main action to be taken is to modify the system file called Build Prop. You can find it and edit it using an application such as the root browser or explorer. Install from Google Play.
- In Build Prop we go down to the very bottom and add an additional term: camera.HAL3.Enabled = 1 Doesn’t add anything extra.
- Install the camera app in the usual way. You downloaded it in advance.
As you can see, setup is not difficult. Someone puts the camera, changing the system file manually, someone installs a special patch, he will do everything for the owner. But I think the difference is small.
But you still have to set up the camera for normal operation in the future. There is a lot of information on this topic, for more information, look here.
Installing a modified Google camera on Xiaomi is recommended for those who have a smartphone that is not quite advanced in terms of optics. You will not regret, the comparison of this camera and the stock one will clearly not be in favor of the latter. The diverse functionality that will be offered to you in the work of the updated camera from Google is impressive. Don’t talk about new photos and videos already.
How to install Google Camera on Xiaomi. Step-by-step instruction
Xiaomi in 2019 makes a strong emphasis on the development of its smartphones, but no matter how hard the Chinese developers try, there are still enough flaws in the devices. The weak camera sensor on Xiaomi is very frustrating, with sufficient lighting and a firm hand, the pictures come out pretty good, in other versions you can forget the quality. This is especially true for models of previous years. To improve the picture quality of photos and videos, you can install the Google Camera HDR mod on Xiaomi. We will tell you in this article how to do it.
All actions you do at your own peril and risk. Any wrong action can render your smartphone inoperative, be careful.

If something is not clear, check out the video, which also describes each step:
By the way, the camera in Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 is much better.
“Installing Google Camera with HDR mode on Xiaomi
Now it is possible to install the Google Camera application on Xiaomi smartphones (and not only), for which Snapdragon processors of the 4xx, 6xx and 8xx series are responsible.
WHAT IT GIVES?
First, this application allows you to shoot in HDR mode. This is a Google-enhanced HDR algorithm that is only available in the Google Camera app. HDR mode produces brighter pictures during the day and sharper pictures in low light. Also, it should be noted that this mode helps when shooting a subject with backlighting (when the lighting is behind the subject being shot. Also This function is good when shooting moving objects, weakening the effect of “blurring”.
Secondly, in this application, video is shot better, due to the fact that it implements electronic image stabilization.
Thirdly, this application allows you to take a portrait photo with a blurred background (bokeh effect). This is true for smartphones with one camera.
HOW TO INSTALL THE GOOGLE CAMERA APP?
You will NOT be able to download this application in the “Play market”.
To install this application on any smartphone (with the processor models listed above), you will need the following: download the application in APK format for your version of Android, on the w3bsit3-dns.com website and install (download link: https://goo.Gl/qoSLC1). unlock the bootloader; Get Root rights; using a program that allows you to edit system files, for example “ROOT Explorer”, edit the “BuildProp” file, added the following line to the very end: persist.Camera.HAL3.Enabled = 1
The Google Camera app gives your smartphone camera a “second chance”. If you are not satisfied (and even satisfied) with the quality of the pictures of your smartphone, you need to try this application in action, we believe that you will be pleasantly surprised. The quality of the resulting images is noticeably higher than when using the standard Camera application, and this applies to photos taken in any conditions, both with sufficient and low light. In addition, the “bokeh” effect inherent in devices with dual camera modules is not badly implemented here (at the software level).
