The Webcam Settings window has three areas:
- Webcam Settings
- Logitech Webcam Properties (Advanced)
- Camera Preview
Webcam Settings In the webcam settings area, you can set the brightness, contrast, saturation, zoom, and other settings for the camera.
How to configure webcam settings
- Brightness. click and drag the slider to the right to increase the brightness and to the left to decrease it.
- Contrast. click and drag the slider to the right to increase the contrast and to the left to decrease it.
- Saturation. click and drag the slider to the right to increase the saturation and to the left to decrease it.
- Zoom. click and drag the slider up to zoom in and down to zoom out.
- Viewport while zoomed in, click and drag the gray rectangle to move the camera lens up, down, right, or left. NOTE. Click the Default button to reset all settings to their original values.
- Advanced. allows you to set additional settings for the camera.
Logitech Webcam Properties The Logitech Webcam Properties (Advanced) window displays 3 tabs:
- Webcam Control
- Advanced Settings
- Device Info
Zoom. click and drag the slider up to zoom in and down to zoom out. In addition, the zoom in and out buttons can be used to change the focal length of the lens. Pan / Tilt controls. Use the right, left, up and down arrow buttons to adjust the field of view. Follow my face. check the box next to this item to automatically pan and tilt the camera lens taking into account the presence of human faces in the field of view. Rightsound. RightSound is enabled by default on the HD Pro Webcam C920. Thanks to RightSound technology, the camera detects and eliminates repetitive sound waves as they create a response or echo. To disable this feature, Uncheck the box next to RightSound. Auto-focus (Autofocus). Autofocus is enabled by default on the HD Pro Webcam C920. In addition, you can manually set the desired value for the depth of field. Check the box next to Auto-focus, and then drag the slider to the right to increase the value and to the left. to reduce it.
- Rightlight. RightLight is enabled by default to automatically improve image quality regardless of lighting conditions. To disable this feature, Uncheck the box next to its name.
- Exposure allows you to determine how much light will hit the camera sensor. Click and drag the slider to the right to increase the value of this parameter, and to the left to decrease it.
- Gain (Gain). this function of the HD Pro Webcam C920 is set automatically by default. The enhancement function is used if you need to increase the brightness of the image or SEPARATE pixels of the video, making the picture more expressive. To manually adjust the camera gain function, select the checkbox, and then click and drag the slider to the right to apply gain and to the left. to cancel it.
- Brightness, Contrast, Color Intensity (Brightness, contrast, color intensity). these three sliders correspond to the functions in the Webcam Settings area of LGS. Click and drag the slider to the right to increase the value of this parameter, and to the left to decrease it.
- White Balance this setting is automatically configured on the HD Pro Webcam C920 by default. To manually configure this feature, check the box next to the feature name.
- Anti-flicker (Eliminate flicker). select a screen refresh rate for the camera display based on the lighting conditions. Available in 60 Hz and 50 Hz, you can also disable this setting.
- Image Orientation. normal and mirror images are available, when selected, the left and right sides will be swapped.
Device Info: Displays information about the HD Pro Webcam C920, including the USB device distributor ID, product ID, firmware version and driver version.
Camera Preview: The camera preview area displays the status of various camera settings and their effect on footage.

Windows 10 webcam not working
Some users, more often after updating Windows 10 and less often. during a clean installation of the OS, they are faced with the fact that the built-in webcam of the laptop or the webcam connected via USB to the computer does not work. Fixing the problem is usually NOT too hard.
As a rule, in this case, they start looking for where to download a driver for a webcam for Windows 10, although with a high degree of probability it is already on the computer, and the camera does not work for other reasons. Important note: If your webcam stops working after updating Windows 10, check Start. Options. Confidentiality. camera (in the “Application permissions” section on the left. If it stopped working suddenly, without updating the 10s and without reinstalling the system, try the simplest option: go to the device manager (through the right click on the start), find the webcam in the section “Imaging devices”, right-click on it. “Properties” and see if the “rollback” button is active on the “driver” tab. Removing and re-detecting the webcam in Device Manager
In about half of the cases, in order for the webcam to work after updating to Windows 10, it is enough to follow these simple steps.
- Go to the device manager (right click on the “Start” button. Select the desired item in the menu).
- In the “Imaging Devices” section, right-click on your webcam (if there is one, then this method is not for you), select “Delete”. If you are also prompted to remove the drivers (if there is such a mark), agree.
- After removing the camera in the device manager, select Action from the menu above. Update hardware configuration. The camera must reinstall. You may need to restart your computer.
Done. check if your webcam is working now. You may not need further steps.
At the same time, I recommend that you check using the built-in Windows 10 Camera application (it will launch it easily through the search on the taskbar).
If it turns out that the webcam works in this application, but, for example, in Skype or another program. is present, the problem is probably in the settings of the program itself, and not in the drivers.
Installing Windows 10 webcam drivers
The next option. Installing webcam drivers different from those currently installed (or, if none are installed, just installing the drivers).
In case your webcam is displayed in Device Manager under Imaging Devices, try the following option:
- Right click on the camera and select “Update Drivers”.
- Select “Search for drivers on this computer”.
- In the next window, select “Select a driver from the list of already installed drivers”.
- See if there is any other compatible driver for your webcam that you can install instead of the one you are currently using. Try to install it.
Another variation of the same method. go to the “Driver” tab of the webcam properties, click “Remove” and remove its driver. After that, in the device manager, select “Action”. “Update hardware configuration”.
If there are no devices similar to a webcam in the “Imaging Devices” section, or even there is this section itself, then first try in the Device Manager menu in the “View” section to enable “Show hidden devices” and see if listed webcam. If it appears, try to name it with the right mouse button and see if there is a “enable” item to enable it.
If the camera does not appear, try these steps:
- See if there are any unknown devices in the Device Manager list. If so: How to install an unknown device driver.
- Go to the official website of the laptop manufacturer (if it’s a laptop). And look in the support section for your laptop model. are there drivers for the webcam (if there are any, but not for Windows 10, try using the “old” drivers in compatibility mode).
Note: Some notebooks may require specific chipset drivers or additional utilities (various kinds of Firmware Extensions, etc.). THOSE. Ideally, if you are faced with a problem on a laptop, you should install the full set of drivers from the manufacturer’s official website.
Installing webcam software via parameters
It is possible that for the webcam to work properly, you need special software for Windows 10. It is also possible that it is already installed, but is not compatible with the current OS (if the problem arose after upgrading to Windows 10).
To get started, go to the Control Panel (Right-click on “Start” and select “Control Panel”. In the “View” field at the top right, put “Icons”) and open “Programs and Features”. If in the list of installed programs there is something related to your webcam, uninstall this program (select it and click “Uninstall / Change”.
After uninstalling, go to “Start”. “Options”. “Devices”. “Connected devices”, find your webcam in the list, click on it and click the “Get application” button. Wait for it to download.
Other ways to fix webcam problems
And a few additional ways to fix webcam not working problems in Windows 10. Rare but sometimes useful.
One more nuance: if the webcam is displayed in Device Manager but does not work, go to its properties, the “Driver” tab and click the “Details” button. You will see a list of driver files used for camera operation. If stream.Sys is among them, it means that your camera driver was released a long time ago and it simply cannot work in many new applications.
Search and installation of a driver for a WEB-camera

The vast majority of laptops, netbooks and all-in-one notebooks manufactured today are equipped with webcams. In view of the fact that Skype and other video telephony services are gaining popularity, a webcam is becoming an increasingly necessary accessory.
And with this accessories sometimes there are various problems with the drivers, as well as other problems like an inverted image. The latter, by the way, often occurs on Asus laptops. The solution to the inverted image problem is quite simple: Solving the problem with the inverted image of the camera, but the drivers are more difficult. It also often happens that the connection between the camera and the motherboard of a laptop, netbook or candy bar is broken and the camera simply does not appear in the list of devices. An inappropriate driver for the camera can lead to the same result. The camera in this case seems to be there, but it is not.
This guide will show you how to solve all these problems and make your webcam work. Here is an example algorithm for solving the problem:
- Determining the webcam model;
- Installing drivers for a specific webcam;
- Installing software and fixing errors in the webcam.
Defining the camera model
It is logical that before you start installing drivers for the camera, you need to find out what kind of camera it is. This can be done using the VID (VEN) and PID (DEV) codes of your webcam.
To find them, you need to go to the Device Manager, find your camera and go to its properties:
Important Note: In Device Manager, cameras can often appear as USB Video Device, Media Controller, or another Unknown Device under the Other Devices or Imaging Devices category. If you have NOT found it at home, it is not upset. Its model can be determined using Ubuntu. This will be discussed below.
Go to the Details tab and select the Equipment ID item in the list:
We are interested in the string USB \ VID_04F2PID_B071REV_1515MI_00 (yours is most likely completely different, but the VID and PID must be present in it). It contains the VID (VEN) and PID (DEV) values for your camera. In this case, VID is 04F2 and PID. B071. These values contain 4 numbers or letters from A to F.
Important note: the vast majority of webcams are connected via the internal USB bus. This means that at the beginning of the timeline there will be a USB designation. USB \ VID_04F2PID_B071REV_1515MI_00. If you have PCI there, and the line looks something like this: PCI \ VEN_1969DEV_1063SUBSYS_18201043REV_C0, then the unknown device that you have selected is NOT a camera. It is absolutely the same with Bluetooth adapters and some 3G / 4G modems. They also connect via the internal USB bus.
When you have the VID and PID values for your camera, you can safely move on to the second point, which is related to installing the drivers. But if you could not find your camera, then read on.
If you couldn’t find the camera through Device Manager, you don’t need to worry. You can also search for it through utilities like Everest. How to do this is described in this manual: Search and install drivers on Windows. When you search, it is worth remembering that your camera is connected to the internal USB bus.
If the search for a camera through Everest has not been successful, then several options are possible:
- Driver problems. The wrong drivers were installed, which caused the camera to disappear from the Device Manager and is invisible in Everest. This happens quite often. It is solved by reinstalling the operating system along with the drivers;
- Loose or damaged cable or wires with which the camera is connected to the motherboard. Such a malfunction can be eliminated at home. It is necessary to disassemble the device and check the camera cable and especially the place where the cable connects to the camera board and to the motherboard;
- The camera is out of order or the chipset malfunctions (south bridge, such a large microcircuit that deals with USB ports). Here, I think, everything is clear. Service center.
How do you determine what happened to the camera? Rearranging the system? For a long time and not a fact that will help. Disassemble a laptop? Also NOT an option if the laptop is under warranty. Send it to a service center for a few weeks? Also NOT an option if the problem turns out to be in the drivers, and the engineers at the service center will order a new camera so as not to steam up.
In fact, basic camera diagnostics can also be done at home. For this we need:
- Utility for burning disc images. I prefer Ashampoo Burning Studio (download links: download / download)
- Ubuntu distribution (version that applies in the article: download / download).
First download, Install and run Ashampoo Burning Studio. Select the Burn CD / DVD / Blue-Ray disc from the disc image from the menu:
Specify the path to the downloaded image from Ubuntu:
Put the disc into the drive and click Burn:

In total, you will have an Ubuntu Linux boot disk. Now you need the laptop to boot from this disk.
Important note: if you have a DVD drive in your laptop, you can use a USB flash drive. To write a disk image to a USB flash drive, I recommend using the UNetBootin utility.
I turn off the laptop, put a USB flash drive or disk with Ubuntu in it and turn it on. We go into the BIOS of the laptop. To do this, at the beginning of the laptop boot, you need to press a specific key or key combination. Usually, when booting at the bottom of the screen, it is indicated which button to press to enter the BIOS. Most often these are F2, Del, Esc and others. How to enter the BIOS should be described in the instructions for the laptop.
After entering the BIOS, you need to find where the boot order is configured. Usually these settings are located on the BOOT tab. The F5 / F6 buttons are usually used to change the boot order. As a rule, the settings page indicates which buttons can be used to change the download list. How to change the boot order should also be indicated in the instructions for the laptop.
Placing your flash drive or memory card in the first place in the download list. Flash drives usually act as USB-HDDs. The boot order should look something like this:
Now you should save the settings and exit the BIOS. To do this, you need to find an item in the BIOS with the approximate name Save and Exit Setup.
After saving the settings, the laptop should reboot. Now you can proceed to download Ubuntu.
If everything is done correctly, then this window will appear:
Click on Try Ubuntu (Try Ubuntu) and wait for the system to boot.
When the system has booted, go to the top menu and launch the Terminal:
In the terminal, enter the lsusb command and press Enter:
This command displays a list of all USB devices that are in the system:
Since the camera is connected via USB, it must also be present in that list. In the image above, I have selected it with my mouse. There you can also see the VID and PID code values for your camera. They are written in the form VID: PID. From the above image, the VID in my camera is 04f2, PID. B071. The same information was reported by the Device Manager. This is how you can find out what kind of webcam you have installed.
An important note: if your camera is not there, then this means either the camera itself is out of order, or, more likely, the contact in the camera connectors has come off or the cable is damaged somewhere. If the laptop is under warranty, then it makes sense to take it to a service center under warranty, if the laptop is not under warranty, then you can try to disassemble the laptop yourself and inspect the camera cable and connectors.
If you have a desire, you can check directly in Ubuntu if your camera works or not. For this we need the Kamoso utility. To install it, go to the menu and launch the application manager:
Important note: in order to install this application, you must first set up Internet access from Ubuntu. If you connect via 3G / 4G modems, then it is better to go straight to installing the drivers. You have VID and PID codes. The fact is that setting up the Internet in Ubuntu in this case is rather complicated.
In the box above, enter Kamoso:

Installing drivers for your webcam

Installing software and fixing errors in the webcam
