SADP password reset problems
When using SADP to reset the device, it is highly recommended to connect the device directly to the PC.
Error: Get key error
When exporting the key file, SADP says: reset password failed
When exporting a key XML file, SADP displays a Get key error message
PC and device are connected through more than one switch, which do NOT support multi-cast function
The PC and the device are connected through a router, and the NAT function is enabled on both the router and the device
PC IP address changed while opening SADP software
Incorrect device firmware
When the device and PC are connected through more than one switch, please make sure the routers support multi-cast function, as it is necessary for the device activation and reset process.
When the PC and the device are connected through a router, try to disable the NAT function in the router and the device. When NAT is activated, the device does NOT receive multi-cast messages.
When the PC and device are directly connected and the PC’s IP address has changed while SADP was open, just restart SADP
Try to flash the device, for example Using TFTP
Error: Reset password failed
When exporting a key file, SADP reports: reset password failed Possible reasons
You may be trying to use an already used or old xml key file.
Perhaps you have generated a new xml key for sending, in this case, the old Sbrc files are no longer suitable.
There may be problems with the file sent to you

SADP does not see the device
If SADP DOES NOT show Hikvison devices on LAN.
First, try disabling all antiviruses and firewalls, if this does not help, then one of the reasons may be an error in the operation of the Winpcap network scanner. Try to reinstall the scanner itself, downloaded the latest version from the link http://www.Winpcap.org/. After that, restart your computer and try to open SADP again.
If SADP does NOT display only some devices or a single device. The problem may be related to Incorrect loading of the device itself or damage to its firmware.
In this case, check the integrity of the cable, does the camera react to the closing of the light sensor to turn on the IR illumination? If the camera responds, but the camera is still not visible in SADP, try reflashing the camera using a TFTP server
How to reset passwords
Hikvision provides 5 ways to reset the password, the use of which mainly depends on the novelty of the equipment and firmware installed on it:
- Reset via Authorized Support by Code and SADP Tool (Deprecated)
- Reset via Authorized Support Service by XML File and SADP Tool
- Self-service password reset by file GUID
- Self-service password reset by answering the “secret” question
- Self-resetting the password with the RESET button
Legacy Method 0 is only possible on older hardware released in 2016 that did NOT have firmware updates. Since it is in many ways similar to method 1, which changed it in the future, we will consider it as an addition to image 1, calling both methods “Password reset through an authorized support service”.
But we will start in the reverse order, since in this case we will practically get an order according to the degree of complication of user actions.
Self-resetting the password with the RESET button
Unfortunately, this method is NOT applicable to most equipment due to the lack of such a button. Most common reset buttons Available on IP cameras, but not on all.
If the camera has a reset button, you must:
- Turn off camera power (12V or POE)
- Press and hold the RESET button;
- Power on the camera, do not release the button;
- Release the button after 20 seconds.
The reset has been made. camera Inactive. that is, reset to factory settings.
The camera will have to be reactivated (see the article “Activating new Hikvision devices”) and set up, however, the records on the SD card, if used before, will be saved.
But not all cameras like the 24 I and 20 I series have reset buttons on the outside. Many cameras have them under a protective cover or dome, which requires unscrewing a part of the case with a screwdriver before using the simplified reset procedure.
Self-service password reset by file GUID
New firmwares are equipped with additional functionality, which can help to quickly reset the password, but it will only work if you take care of the need to reset the password during device setup, when you still remember the password.
To prepare for this method, you need to go to the Web interface or remote configuration in iVMS-4200 or BatchConfigTool and in the user management section
Click on the button “Export GUID file”.
By exporting the GUID file to your computer and saving it somewhere in a good place, you will be able to recover the password yourself by simply importing it to your device.
Clicked on “Forgot Password” in the corresponding interface of the device, you will be offered a reset form:
If you accidentally select a file from a second device, it simply won’t be accepted. Resetting the password does not affect the archive and device settings.
Self-service password reset by answering the “secret” question
Similarly to the previous method, in this it was necessary to provide in advance the answers to security questions. To prepare for this method, you need to go to the Web interface or remote configuration in iVMS-4200 or BatchConfigTool and in the user management section.
Click on the button “Security question”.
Asked when setting up security questions, you will be able to reset your password.
Clicked on “Forgot Password” in the corresponding interface of the device, you will be offered a reset form:
In it, you need to select the Appropriate verification method. Resetting the password does not affect the archive and device settings.
Password reset via authorized support
The average processing time for password reset requests in the authorized support service is from 30 minutes to an hour and a half, on weekdays during business hours. Device passwords are reset only when you provide a photo sticker (nameplate) of the device.
Passwords WILL NOT be reset without a photo attached to the application. To perform a reset, you must fill out a password reset application containing the following data:
With attached files: photo of the nameplate and XML or XLS (X) depending on the reset method (1 or 0, respectively) ATTENTION! Without an attached export file, a picture file of the device nameplate and a completed form. password reset is not performed.
To correctly fill out the application and carry out the password reset procedure 1) First, install the latest version of SADP software from the link. 2) I will take a photo and save a photo of the sticker with a barcode on the device itself.
3) Run SADP as administrator
After opening SADP, the program will scan your local network and display a list of found devices. It is worth paying attention to the column “Security”, the device on which you need to reset the password must be “Active”. Device active and password set.
Then you need to check the box in front of the device, the password of which should be reset and click on the link “Forgot Password”.
After clicking on the “Forgot Password” link, a window will open, the appearance of which depends on the firmware version installed in the device.
4) perform actions in accordance with the reset method:
Method number 1
For new firmware (5.3 for cameras, 3.0.10 for DVRs):
Now the program provides for sending an XML file or a QR code identifying a device to receive an XML password reset file, however, sending a QR code is not yet supported in Ukraine, so we will consider the option with XML. To do this, you need to export the.XML file (for each device its own file).
Click on the Export button
Next, select the file export directory. The illustration below shows the Desktop as an example.
Upon successful export, a sticker will be issued
A file with the.XML extension and the name in the form of the complete serial number of the device will appear in the specified directory. You cannot rename the file!
5) Create an email, fill out the form, attach 2 required files and send an email.
You send this letter to the address: IT@ohrana.Ua with the subject “Password reset”.
If you need to reset on several devices, please send each file in a separate letter.
6) do not turn off or reboot SADP and the device while waiting for a response.
7) Receive a reply email containing an attachment.
Now the program provides for the input of an XML file or a password reset Key-code sent by an authorized support service, however, sending a Key-code is not yet supported in Ukraine, therefore, we will consider the option with a password reset XML file sent.
In response, you will receive a letter with a file with the extension.XML. The reset file is valid only for the current day, the next day its application will not make sense and you will need to repeat the procedure.
This file must be substituted in this window, left after the export of the file for sending to support. Then you come up with a new password and confirm it.
Password must be at least 8 characters long, containing numbers, uppercase and lowercase letters.
If everything went well, a sticker will be issued
Resetting the password does not affect the archive and device settings.
Method number 0
For older firmwares (5.2 for cameras, 3.0.9 for DVRs and earlier)
If the old firmware version is installed, the system will ask you to enter the code to reset the password to the factory (12345) as in the illustration below.
To get the code, you need to do the following: For now, close the default password recovery window.
You need to send the following information to authorized support:
- Full serial number of the device (For example: DS-72xxABCD-XY / SN123456789ABCD123456789ABCD) (The serial number from the sticker on the device will NOT work, only the one specified in SADP)
- The value of the “Start time” field (For example: 2014-05-22 1:11 PM), which can be found on the right side of the table
To obtain this information, you can use the data export. Check the box next to the required devices and press the Export button, a spreadsheet file (.XLS) will be created
1) Create an email, fill out the form, attach 2 required files and send the email. Instead of XLS file, you can copy the data (serial number and launch time) directly into the body of the email after the required form.
2) do not turn off or reboot the device while waiting for a response. SADP can be closed until a response is received.
3) Receive a reply letter containing reset codes.
4) Repeat step 3) and enter the code sent from the list into the box Corresponding to the current date. Usually 3-4 codes are sent for different dates. Each reset code is valid only for the specified days.
SADP password reset problems
Note: When using SADP to reset the device, it is strongly recommended to connect the device directly to the PC whenever possible.
Error: Get key error
Description of the problem
When exporting a key file, SADP reports: Get key error
Possible reasons:
- PC and device are connected through more than one switch, which do NOT support multi-cast function.

If all devices are detected normally, but only a specific camera is not visible, then there are either problems with the connection or with the camera firmware. It is recommended to flash the device, for example using TFTP.
For more information on using SADP, see the article “Activating New Hikvision Devices”.
Hikvision’s products are becoming more and more popular among Ukrainians, which is associated with high efficiency while ensuring security at the facility. High popularity contributes to the fact that more and more people are asked how to reset Hikvision in order to return to the factory settings or change the password.
As practice shows, it is rather difficult to explain everything by phone, and we are ready to PROVIDE professional assistance only in Kiev and Dnipro. In this article, we will walk you through how to reset Hikvision settings and reset your password. Following the instructions, you will be able to independently restore the operation of the equipment without any problems, carry out a Hikvision factory reset if you forgot your password or made a mistake during the settings.
Reset features
Warning
If you need to reset the Hikvision recorder or video camera, the best solution would be to contact the service center so that all the work is carried out by specialized specialists. This guarantees high efficiency and eliminates any consequences in the form of a complete failure of the surveillance system. It is much easier when all the work is done by a professional at the initial stage than when solving auto goods situations after independently trying to reset to the factory settings of Hikvision. This article is intended for those who do not have the physical ability to call a specialist or just for informational purposes.
The administration is NOT responsible for any resulting consequences that may arise during independent attempts to reset. If you started to carry out independent manipulations to restore the factory settings, it is strongly discouraged to experiment, but follow these instructions exactly. Otherwise, you can lose the firmware of the equipment and then there is a high probability of complete breakdown of the device. If you are perfectly familiar with the Linux operating system, there is no need to experiment and “pick the brains” of the device. It is difficult to count the cases of complete equipment breakdown.
What do we need?
If you decide to reset the Hikvision password yourself or return to the factory settings, you need to immediately prepare everything that we need during work:
When everything is ready, you can start working directly on restoring the operating system.
Algorithm of actions for resetting settings
You will first need to find out the IP address of the device. If everything is clear, then this step can be skipped. If not, then:
- Install IP Finder;
- Start the SADP program;
- Press Enter in the window;
- An IP device with a personal network number will appear in the window.
Connect to CCTV camera
- You must go to “Start”. “Run”;
- Write the cmd command and press Enter;
- In the window you need to register TELNET and press Enter;
- Click on “O” on the English layout and Enter;
- Enter the network address of the IP device and press Enter;
- Enter Login root and press the Enter button;
- Enter the hiklinux password and press Enter. When you enter it is not displayed and the space is also a symbol so be careful;
- You need to go to the davinchi directory, so type cd davinchi and press Enter;
- VIEW the resulting list of files using the ls command and press Enter. you need to find the devCfg.Bin file, then go to the next paragraph;
- Begin factory reset by typing rm devCfg.Bin and hitting Enter;
- Reboot the device by entering the reboot command and press Enter;
- This completes the procedure, you just need to close the command timeline and the device will work in factory settings with a standard network address. 192.0.0.64, login. admin and password. 12345.
If you did everything correctly, then the Hikvision camera was reset to factory settings. You can now re-configure your site security.
Password reset
Probably, everyone thought about why all these passwords are needed. The answer is very simple. using a password, you are protecting the network, and an attacker will NOT be able to take over the equipment. This is what contributes to the fact that it is desirable to set rather complex passwords, which are not easy to crack. For example, the manufacturer Hikvision requires its users to set passwords for at least 8 characters, with numbers, small and large Latin letters. It is because of the setting of a simple password that the video surveillance system is hacked. If you have set a complex password, then you definitely need to write it down so that you do not have to look for ways to reset your Hikvision password.
The need to reset the password may arise in a situation when the user has forgotten the old password, some kind of software failure has occurred and the system does not want to accept the password (this is extremely rare), or you bought the used equipment, and the seller did not provide the password and you cannot activate security cameras. Regardless of the reason, you will need to carry out the same reset procedures. If you bought equipment with a “RESET” button, then the procedure Takes exactly 30 seconds, and in other cases you need to use additional software or contact the camera manufacturer, who will reset.
Manual password recovery
It is manual password recovery that is as simple as possible for the user and can be carried out independently without outside help and software. It should be borne in mind that this method is suitable exclusively for those devices from Hikvision, which have a special button for resetting the password, you need to:
- Find the Reset button behind the camera, which is sometimes difficult to see right away;
- With the power off, you need to hold down the button for 15-30 seconds using a screwdriver or a second device. You cannot even release the button for a second, Connect the power and hold for another 15 seconds, after which you can already release the button;
- If you did everything correctly, then the password in your camera will be reset and the camera will be inactive again.
As you can see, this method is as simple as possible for password recovery, and you can carry out new equipment settings to create an effective video surveillance system. This button is present in the following models of CCTV cameras:
Password recovery using programs
If you have a model in which the RESET button is not provided in the interface, then you will be able to restore only with the help of programs. Let’s consider the recovery option with you, Using the same software as for the factory reset. SADP. Strictly adhere to the following instructions:
We get the xml file, which is needed to reset the password:
- Run the installed SADP program;
- In the list of devices, find the one you want to restore and tick the box;
- In the lower right corner you need to find the “Forgot Password” button;
- After that, click on the “Export” button and save the file in xml format;
- Program and device Must be active.
It is necessary to send the form to our mail, indicated the following data:
- Surname, name, patronymic;
- Equipment name;
- Serial number of the equipment;
- Phone number for feedback;
- Indicate the essence of the problem. Hikvision camera password reset;
- Attach the resulting xml file.
In just a few days we will send you an xml file, which you will need to save, where is the reset software.
Resetting the password directly:
- Select the “Import File” tab, click on the folder icon;
- You must select the saved file that you received from us,
- Enter a new password and confirm it. click on the “Confim” button.
This recovery method is suitable for absolutely all CCTV cameras, which do not have a built-in reset function using the RESET button.
Possible problems
There are situations when following the instructions, users cannot reset their password. This occurs for several reasons:
Get key error
It occurs when exporting a file key. This usually occurs if the computer and device are connected through multiple switches, connected through a router, or while the SADP program was open, the network address of the equipment was changed. Sometimes an error occurs if the hardware firmware has been changed.
You need to make sure that the equipment supports multi-cast function. If there is an error when connecting through the router, then disable the NAT function. If the device is directly connected and the network address has been changed, just restart the program.
Reset password failed error
This error occurs if you try to use an old key or a previously used one. It is possible that you have created a new file key for sending, so the old reset file is not suitable or there is a problem with the sent file. Either the computer address was changed while the program was open.
To solve the problems, you need to make sure that you are using the current key file designed to unlock the camera. Make sure that you have not rebooted the device AND created a new key for sending, or invite a new key file to technical support. Try simply restarting the program to reset.
As you can see, it is possible to recover the settings and the password if you follow some recommendations. If you have any difficulties or questions, just Contact the specialists of Control.Ua, who are always ready to advise on any questions of interest.
