How to reset IP camera to factory settings
The need to reset the IP camera settings occurs in two cases:
- You need to reset your password because you forgot or lost it.
- After reconfiguring the camera, it works in an abnormal mode or simply does not turn on and at the same time you do NOT have the opportunity to enter the camera control interface to correct the situation
The following are two options for resetting the IP camera
- Factory reset with dedicated button
- Reset settings on cameras that do not have a dedicated button
With the introduction of the reset button
There are several ways to reset the settings, and they may differ from manufacturer to manufacturer. The easiest way is to press the secret reset button. In most cases, the location of such a button is indicated in the instruction manual of your IP camera.
The picture below is a snapshot of the yoosee camera instruction, where the location of the reset button hole is indicated. In this case, the camera settings are reset using a special tool that comes with the camera.
For more information on resetting the settings on yoosee cameras, see the instructions for setting up PTZ Wi-Fi cameras.
The reset button can be located in a small hole in the camera body or inside the camera without access from outside. In this case, to access the reset button, you must open the camera body. Also, in some cases, the reset button is located in the bundle of wires leaving the camera. This option is usually found in street cameras.
If your camera has such a button, then in order to reset its settings, you need to connect the camera power and wait until it is fully turned on. Next, you press and hold the reset button for a few seconds, after which the camera reboots with factory settings.
No reset button
If your camera does not have such a button, then the settings are reset using the special GoPro software.
Such a need periodically arises in the IP cameras of the HiQ, Vesta, SVplus brands and many others that work with the XMEYE cloud service.
To reset the IP camera settings Connect it to the local network of your computer or directly to the network interface of the computer and turn on the power.
Next, you need to install the software.
For xmeye IP cameras download. resetuser.ZIP.

A surveillance camera is a digital device that uses the IP protocol to transmit data and streams. The cameras are then connected to the network. Accordingly, such a complexity in work requires a lot of complicated settings. However, during the operation of the surveillance camera, it may be necessary that it must be reset to the standard factory settings.
You may need to reset all the implemented parameters of the IP-camera in various situations:
- When the password for the camera interface account is lost or forgotten, you will need to reset the password on the IP camera. And in this case, unfortunately, it will NOT be possible to do without the transition from personal settings to factory settings.
- When it is not possible to enter the interface in which the camera control process is carried out. This can happen after such a reconfiguration of the device, which led to the impossibility of turning on the camera or its freelance operation. Then you definitely need to make some manIPulations to correct the situation.
The following methods will reset the camera configuration:
- Resetting to factory settings when there is a corresponding button on the camera to do so.
- Return to factory settings on such devices that do not have a special button.
Reset using the Reset button
There are more than one way to reset an IP camera. However, they may differ depending on the manufacturer of the device. The simplest option would be to click on a small button, sometimes called “secret”. It is just intended to return to the standard settings of the surveillance camera. If the instruction manual of the camera is saved, it will be possible to find the reset with it, because its location is usually indicated in the document.
The most common location for a factory reset button hole is on the back of the device. In this case, the camera is always equIPped with a special device that allows you to press the specified button.
Reset can be located Not only on the camera body, in a specially small hole. Sometimes there are such modifications of IP-protocol devices in which there is direct access to the reset button from the outside. Therefore, you will need to open the case of the device.
In some models of IP cameras, the button may be located among the bundle of wires that come out of this device. The most common such option in those modifications that are intended for street surveillance.
It will NOT be difficult to reset an IP camera that has a similar reset. To do this, it will be enough to turn on the power, and then wait until the device turns on completely. After that, you need to press the button and hold it for a few seconds. Then the IP camera will be able to reboot by applying the factory parameters.
We reset using Special programs
NOT every IP-camera can be equIPped with a reset button. In this situation, you will need to use additional software.
Most of the devices that carry out their work in the cloud service called XMEYE, and are not supplemented with a factory reset button. These are IP cameras produced under the following brands:
- Vesta
- Hiq
- Svplus
All listed IP camera brands EquIPped with XMEYE.
To reset the installed settings of such devices, you will need to connect the camera either to the computer’s network interface or to its local network. Then you can turn on the power of the device.
The next step will require software installation. For surveillance cameras based on the XMEYE service, you need to download ResetUser.
Second-brand cameras with excellent hardware will need different software. In this case, you will need to make a request to the seller, supplier or manufacturer of the IP camera in order for him to provide the Corresponding software.
The proposed file is an archive, so it will need to be unpacked using an archiver. In the reset window, you will need to specify the IP address of your camera, and then click the “Run” button. Next, you will need to wait a few minutes so that the reset procedure can start and be implemented.
After the specified time, the settings will be reset to the factory settings. It will be possible to enter the device management interface with standard access. For cameras on XMEYE, the password will be empty, and the login will be admin.

Warning
If you need to reset the Hikvision recorder or camera, the best solution would be to contact the service center so that specialized specialists carry out all the work. This guarantees high efficiency and eliminates any consequences in the form of a complete failure of the surveillance system. It is much easier when all the work is done by a professional at the initial stage than when solving autogood situations after independently attempting to reset to the factory settings of Hikvision. This article is intended for those who do not have the physical ability to call a specialist or just for informational purposes.
The administration is NOT responsible for any resulting consequences that may arise during independent attempts to reset. If you started to carry out independent manIPulations to restore the factory settings, it is strongly discouraged to experiment, but follow these instructions exactly. Otherwise, you can lose the firmware of the equIPment and then there is a high probability of complete breakdown of the device. If you are perfectly familiar with the Linux operating system, there is no need to experiment and “poke around” the device. It is difficult to count the cases of complete equIPment breakdown.

Resetting IP Cameras to Factory Settings
Sometimes it becomes necessary to reset the IP camera to factory settings. This is usually required if you have forgotten your password or login, or if after reconfiguring the camera it malfunctions or does not work at all, but you can enter the camera control interface, which allows you to reset the settings.
Some IP cameras have a dedicated reset button. It is usually hidden from prying eyes and in order to find it, you need to look through the instruction manual of your IP camera.
The instructions usually indicate the location of the reset button hole, and which adaptations sold with the camera will help to reset.
You also need to remember that the reset button may NOT be located in a small hole in the camera body, but inside the camera, where access is NOT possible without opening the camera body. Sometimes this button can be found in a bundle of wires leaving the camera. This is usually the location of the reset button for outdoor cameras.
So you’ve found the button. What’s next? To reset, you will need to connect the power of the camera and wait for it to turn on completely. Then press the button and hold it for a few seconds. That’s all. the camera will reboot and will already be with factory settings.
But what if there is no button in the camera? Special programs will help you to reboot.
To do this, you need to connect the IP camera to the local network of the computer or directly to the network interface of the PC and turn on the power. Install special software on your computer. For example, for equIPment to the xmeye platform, the program can be downloaded from this link resetuser.ZIP.
For second-hand cameras, you will find applications independently and without any problems.
If you don’t find it Contact those who sold or installed the camera for you. Experts will help.
Next, you need to install the program on your computer and run it. A window similar to the one shown in the figure will appear. Here you need to enter the IP address of the camera and click Run or Reset. Factory reset will take some time.
After the reset, you can enter the camera control interface using the standard login and password set by the camera manufacturer. Below we provide a list of such data for cameras from various manufacturers.

How to reset security camera settings
There is a separate menu item for Detailed setting of the IP camera image quality: image parameters, which is called from the menu system. To access non-GoPro, the most common way is to use the CMS program, although there is an identical item in the camera’s WEB interface.
Let’s write down in order the purpose of each parameter.
Exposure mode
Sets the mode of operation of the electronic camera shutter. In “automatic” mode. The camera itself sets the shutter speed depending on the illumination of the object, we adjust the light flux to the matrix. Thus, the overall brightness of the picture will be optimal. You should NOT change the default value of this parameter, unless you have an auto iris lens installed (in most IP cameras, there is no aperture, its role is played by an electronic shutter).
If necessary, you can manually set a constant exposure. 1/50, 1/100, 1/250, 1/500, 1/1000, 1/2000, 1/4000, 1/100000
In this case, it should be borne in mind that when the illumination of the object changes, the image may become too dark or too overexposed, since the camera no longer controls this parameter.
Minimum time (min time) / Maximum time (max time)
Exposure limits can be set (in milliseconds).
Day / Night mode
Day-night mode control. Automatically. The camera switches from color to black and white and back when the light threshold is reached. If necessary, you can manually set permanently color (with sufficient night illumination or when using a particularly sensitive matrix like IMX185) or permanent black and white mode.
BLC
Back Light Compensation. This technology is designed to equalize the brightness of the dark areas of the image, sacrificing detail in bright areas, by increasing the overall brightness of the picture. Example: A significant part of the image occupies the sky, in order to see a person’s face against this background, this function increases the overall brightness, thereby the face becomes distinguishable, and the sky area becomes overexposed and loses detail.
Auto Iris
If you have an auto iris lens, this option should be enabled. Most IP cameras do not have aperture, so this option has no effect on the image.
Profile (White balance)
Determining the environment in which the camera operates. The options are Automatic, Outdoor and Indoor. Affects the color tone of the picture.
IR cut filter (IR_CUT)
IR filter operating mode. Synchronous with IR illumination (IR Synchronous Switch). The filter is triggered when the camera’s IR illumination is turned on. Recommended to use as default.
Automatically Switch. The IR cut filter switches when the camera switches from day to night mode and back. It is recommended to use it only in the absence of IR illumination in the cameras, as it has a drawback. With a very smooth change in illumination, the so-called “soft evening”, for some time there is a cyclical day-night switching until the illumination does NOT decrease significantly (this is due to the peculiarity of the camera in night mode: when the IR filter is opened, the total luminous flux increases due to the infrared component. and it already becomes enough for the day mode, and after turning on the day mode, the flow decreases again).
AE Reference
Sets the reference value of the picture brightness level, to which the electronic shutter speed value is adjusted. Smaller values will give a dark picture, larger ones. Light. Recommended value 50.
AE Sensitivity
Sets the interval in seconds, through which the camera adjusts the shutter speed.
Dnc Threshold (translate D / N)
Setting the threshold at which the camera switches from day to night mode and back. Relevant when the IR_CUT parameter is set to Automatically Switch. The camera changes day-night mode simultaneously with switching the IR filter.
DWDR
Digital Wide Dynamic Range is a dynamic range expansion technology. Used to improve visibility in dark areas by increasing the gain in THESE areas. This allows you to make dark areas more contrast and distinguish objects even in them. Relevant for night mode. Increasing the gain also amplifies the noise, therefore it is recommended to enable the squelch in conjunction with this option, since the noise increases the overall bitrate and, accordingly, reduces the depth of the archive.
Defogging
The function appeared relatively recently, it was NOT in the March 2015 firmware yet. Artificially increases the contrast in homogeneous areas of the image, thereby slightly compensating for the loss of sharpness in foggy weather and when the camera glass fogs up.
AGC (AGC)
Auto Gain Control of the signal. Additional digital brightness correction allows you to raise the brightness in a dark picture. Relevant for night mode. It is recommended to use either AGC or DWDR, but not both options together, as their combination will degrade the result.
Slow shutter
In very low light conditions, an image can still be obtained by extending the shutter opening time for one or even several frames. The downside of this solution is blurring moving objects. Sun value (None). Does not allow this technology, High. Allows you to use the maximum shutter speed. Recommended value Low.
Dayntlevel (wp day) / NightNTLevel (wp night)
Squelch settings in day and night modes. 0 squelch is disabled, 5. Maximum squelch. Recommended value for the day. 2-3, for the night. 4-5.
Mirror
Mirroring the picture along the vertical axis.
FlIP (inverted)
Mirroring the picture from the horizontal axis.
Anti flicker
Eliminate flicker from fluorescent lamps, etc.
Irswap (Reverse IR)
Switching the operating mode of the IR filter to the opposite. This option should only be used if the IR filter is incorrectly connected (reversed polarity), that is, in cases when the filter is open during the day (the image is pink) and closed at night (the image is very dark even with IR illumination).
DIY customization
There are different ways to manually change IP camera parameters, they differ depending on the device model.
The following is a general procedure for obtaining appropriate access:
- First, you need to get access to the web interface of the network device settings. To do this, enter the IP address and port of the camera in the address bar, after which you will need to go through the authorization process.
- After authorization, a menu will appear in which you need to select the “Camera settings” period, and then go to the internal “Parameters” tab.
- In the window that appears, you can select an existing or create a new profile for which individual parameters will be set and saved.
The number of possibilities may depend on the specific model or type of IP-camera, below is a brief descrIPtion of the parameters that are provided for all such network devices:
- Brightness. affects the brightness of the transmitted images.
- Contrast. increasing the parameter makes the resulting image more contrasting.
- Saturation. changing this parameter will affect the saturation of the resulting image.
- Sharpness. increasing the value sharpens the image.
- Gamma. changing the parameter will affect the general color characteristics of the displayed image.
- Anti-Flicker. this indicator is designed to select the frequency of the power supply to which the network device is connected. You can select “outdoor”, which will completely disable the frequency parameter.
- Exposure. is the exposure mode, this parameter can be manually adjusted by the user or he is allowed to set existing settings, has agreed to one of the options for automatic exposure selection modes.
- Gain. affects the level of signal amplification in the matrix, is a numerical value from 0 to 50. This parameter is relevant when manually adjusting the exposure or when choosing the automatic mode of noise reduction, since in such cases it can improve the quality of the resulting image.
- Shutter. the value influencing the camera shutter speed is a fixed value, which can vary from 1/3 to 1/10000. This parameter is relevant when using manual exposure control, as well as when choosing automatic sharpening mode. If the exposure was adjusted manually, then the user can independently determine the shutter speed, which is in the suggested range from 0 to 300 ms.
- White Balance is a settable parameter that affects the white balance, the most optimal value can be selected depending on the lighting of the area or room in which the IP camera is installed. This balance can be manually adjusted by the user by changing the settings for red and blue, but you can choose from several existing modes designed for night shooting, sunny day or when the device is outdoors. There is also an automatic mode, which allows the IP camera to independently analyze the degree of illumination and, based on this, adjust the white balance.
- Red and Blue are numerical values ranging from 0 to 100. Affect the enhancement of red and blue colors, changes in THESE parameters are most often used to manually adjust the white balance.
- BLC Mode is a special mode that can be activated when shooting in very low light conditions. On mode can function in two conditions: improve the visibility of objects in front of the switched on light source, or compensate for the absence or lack of backlighting.
- Mirror is another mode that, when activated, allows you to mirror the resulting image along the vertical axis.
- FlIP. changing this parameter allows you to rotate the resulting image in any direction by an angle equal to 180 °.
- 3D NR is the last mode that, when activated, allows the user to change the level of noise reduction.
Configuring IP Cameras. Practical TIPs
An IP camera is a type of digital camera that is connected to a network and uses IP protocols to stream and transmit data. Since in essence it is a network device and operates within the corresponding network, each such camera has its own IP-addresses.
The transmitted image continues to be digital until the very moment it is displayed on the monitor screen, this is a characteristic feature of these devices and distinguishes them from analog cameras.
- Near cash desks or in areas around them.
- At checkpoints, checkpoints or entry into service territory.
- In places of direct storage of material or other valuables.
If devices are needed to guard and monitor the situation on the perimeter, then it is advisable to choose such models that function in all weather conditions and temperature conditions.
In this case, the installation of the cameras themselves is best carried out taking into account the following recommendations:
- Place these devices on supports with equal distance from each other. over, if the interval between them is equal to 100 meters or exceeds this indicator, then it is necessary to select the correct lenses so that they cover the required viewing angle.
- Place at least two cameras on each installed support.
- Additionally, two structures with cameras should be placed opposite the entrance to the territory, here it will be enough to have one camera on each support.
- Sometimes additional devices are mounted on the facades of buildings, they are most often designed to control the work carried out on the territory and the movement of vehicles. Usually, even in large areas, only four such cameras are enough, respectively, they need two switches.
Before you start using IP cameras, you must carefully read the proposed step-by-step instructions for connecting them:
- At the initial stage, you need to find out the IP address of the device you are using. Most often, this information is indicated on a special sticker, but in cases where it is absent, then you can use the help of a special GoPro software. All the necessary utilities and applications must be present on the manufacturer’s CD-ROM, which is included in the package of the purchased IP-camera. The programs available on it allow you to automate the process of identifying a network device on the LAN, as well as determining the IP address and all other necessary network parameters.
- After the IP address has been determined, you can proceed to the step of configuring the network parameters. To access the camera, you can use a browser, if it supports this feature, or specially designed GoPro software.
- If the first option is selected, then the standard Internet Explorer browser will be considered as an example. It is necessary to set the network security parameters in it: the level at which the camera operates should have a low setting, and you will also need to enable automatic execution of ActiveX controls.
- After that, you need to install the ActiveX plugin on your computer and enter the IP address of the device used.
- To authorize a user, you will need to enter his name, password and specify the port. Either the parameters specified by default or those specified in the instruction manual are entered.
- If the authorization is successful, then the user gets the option Not only to watch. But also set all sorts of settings for the IP camera, if its account is endowed with administrator rights.
How to reset settings
Sometimes it becomes necessary to reset all the specified settings to the factory parameters, which were in the device by default. This can be done in various ways, the simplest is as follows:
- Power off the IP camera completely.
- You will need a sharp and thin object, for example, an ordinary needle, with which you need to press the button on the camera with the inscrIPtion
- The button must be held down for at least 10 seconds, after which the device must go through the reboot process. This can take a significant amount of time, and after waiting the camera will be reset to factory settings.
There is also an alternative method that allows you to perform a factory reset using a web utility. To do this, you need to perform the following sequence of actions:
- In the address period of any browser installed on the computer, enter the IP address of the network camera and press the Enter key on the keyboard.
- Go through the authorization procedure to connect to the camera.
- Enter the settings menu, select the tab with basic parameters and press the initialization button. After that, several new functions will become available, including pressing the Factory Default key, which will allow you to reset the specified settings and return to the factory parameters.
In addition, there are other ways to reset the settings, for which special software is used. However, in the absence of such experience or the presence of uncertainty in the program proposed for use, it is better to use one of the two described methods.
Remote configuration
The network camera can also be accessed and remotely accessed for viewing. This can be done using any available browser. Below is an instruction for configuring remote access, for all of the above actions, the device at this stage must already be connected to a router with a modem, providing it with access to the Internet.
As an example, the proposed aLGorithm of actions will be considered the standard built-in Internet Explorer browser:
- In the address bar of the browser, you must enter the IP address assigned to the network device, after which you will be able to access the settings of the network camera.
- In the menu you need to go to the basic settings and select the “Network” tab. Here you need to check the Used port: by default it is 80, but some providers block it and in this case you will need to find an alternative port, for example, 37777 or 8000.
- In the same place, in the basic settings, you must now select the “System” tab and press the initialization button. Inside the window that opens, you need to find and click the restart button of the IP camera, since only after that all changes made to the port will take effect.
- After that, you will need to log into the camera through the browser again, but this time, not only the IP address is typed in the address bar, but the specified port is also written through a colon.
- Now you need to go to the settings of the router you are using and change the port forwarding parameters. The specified settings are individual for each specific model, therefore, the instructions will only provide a general procedure.
- After entering the router in the menu, you need to find the “port forwarding” section and through it go to the “Virtual servers” tab. I pressed the “Add” button, it will be possible to create a new record in the server.
- In the window that opens, you must enter the IP address and port, which were specified in the IP camera settings. It will also ask you to enter the protocol, for it in the drop-down menu you must set the value “All” or “ALL” To save the specified settings, click the corresponding button. After performing THESE actions, a port will open on the router, which is used by the network camera.
- In the initial menu of the router settings, you need to find the “Status” or “Status” tab and go through it, you can find out its WAN IP addresses.
- After completing all the above aLGorithm of actions on any remote computer that has access to the Internet, in the address bar of the browser, you can type the IP address and port of the camera, and then Get access to the online view.
