Use a spray gun or spray paint.
Paint is a rather outdated but effective way to make regular glass opaque. Many have used it in years past to create a cozy ambience in bathrooms. It is also a way to temporarily disable a video surveillance device. You need to get close to the camera unnoticed and apply a layer of concentrated paint on the lens. You can use a can or spray gun so you don’t get close. Cameras after such processing will definitely be useless until someone cleans the optical elements.
Cut the cable.
Quite a difficult way to deal with video surveillance. Professional installation of a surveillance system means hiding all wires, both for power supply and data transmission. It is very difficult to get to them. Considering the fact that today wireless IP cameras are increasingly used, then this method can be considered outdated. over, it is quite dangerous. by mistake you can cut the wrong wire and get an electric shock. Getting to the wire right next to the camera is also not an option, since you can get into its field of view. However, it is a surefire way to disable your camera. Its owner is unlikely to be able to return it to working condition without calling specialists. And it takes a long time.
Place an opaque bag over the device
One of the easiest ways to temporarily “neutralize” a surveillance camera. All you need is a simple, opaque plastic bag and duct tape. It is better to choose an industrial quality product, as it is thicker and stronger, which means it is more effective against a video camera. It is necessary to completely cover the device with a bag and wrap it with tape near the base. The field of view of the camera will thus be blocked. If you act carefully so as not to damage the optics of the device, then such an action will even be difficult to regard as an attack on someone else’s property. A camera covered with film will not attract the attention of ordinary passers-by. this is often done with faulty equipment. Of course, the camcorder will be idle only until the moment when its owner notices the interference. At the same time, he will understand the message that the presence of a video surveillance system is not suitable for everyone.
Throwing a heavy object onto the camera.
The most dangerous (but also the most effective) method of dealing with video surveillance. It takes a lot of preparation to implement it. If the camera is installed in the entrance of an apartment building, it can be destroyed from above. It is necessary to get out onto the roof of the building and, taking good aim, drop a concrete block or other solid object on it. Camcorders are quite fragile devices and are unlikely to withstand such a blow. The method is not always effective, because the device itself can be hidden under a protective casing or canopy. You should be very careful not to harm the bystanders below. In any case, it will be damage to someone else’s property, and the pest will have to answer before the law. It is worth going for this only as a last resort.
Cover the lens with adhesive tape.
Another very simple but effective way to close the view of a camcorder. All you need to do is stick a small piece of opaque tape directly onto the lens. The camera will be defused without damage. The danger is that getting to the camera lens unnoticed is quite difficult. There is always a chance to get into the frame. Even a piece of clothing captured in the image can later reveal the pest.
8 ways to disable a security camera
At first glance, the title of the text may seem strange to a modern person. After all, video cameras are good for safety! Yes it’s true. But, such a vision is mainly imposed on a person by advertising specifically. Video surveillance is a useful and effective tool, but only for the owner of video cameras. For the rest, this is most often an invasion of personal space.

For example, if a neighbor uses cameras, it creates an unpleasant feeling of constant observation, which is bad for peace of mind. An employee under the gaze of a video surveillance system is unlikely to feel normal. this will only increase his nervousness, not productivity. Some modern schools practice video surveillance of students right during lessons. Is this really the right approach? On the streets, cameras shoot every step of any passer-by, while he does not know who exactly is watching him and for what. At the same time, the observer remains in the shadows. no one forces him to show his activity to others.
Don’t take video cameras only in a negative way. Very often, only they are able to provide an objective view of the incident in order to correctly understand the situation. But everything has its limits. Video surveillance should not harm your privacy. You can always solve the problem peacefully, but it happens that you have to act radically.
Block the view of the camcorder from a distance.
This method is the most laborious of all, but completely safe, because it does not imply physical influence on the camera. To solve the problem without damage to property, it is enough to block the view for the surveillance system from afar. For example, to get rid of the gaze of neighboring cameras, you can plant several trees or other fast-growing plants, build a garage, or put up an opaque fence.
And how to disable a surveillance camera
Infrared and laser radiation
Laser radiation, as mentioned above, not only illuminates the camera matrix, but also allows you to influence it. Different techniques can be used to disable mini-surveillance cameras:
- Combining powerful sources.
- Visible long wave radiation.
- Application of infrared diodes.
Infrared diodes can burn optical sensors and camera matrix.
Unfortunately (or fortunately), modern models of surveillance cameras are equipped with infrared filters, which not only improve the quality of shooting, but also protect them from direct hit of identical beams. The technique independently neutralizes the harmful effect, which does not allow the attacker to achieve what he wants.
An equally effective way to stop image transmission with the creation of a spot of light. this is the direction of the burning diode towards the lens. In theory, everything is easy, but in practice it is almost impossible to implement.
The last method. radiation of a long visible wave. To do this, a powerful laser is directed into the lens for 20 minutes, placed at a certain distance from it.
This method brings a logical result, provided that the light source has sufficient power to overcome the protection of the camera. The most effective in this situation is the green laser.
Pasting
Bonding is a mechanical method of influencing the apparatus. Usually, the lens of a CCTV camera is closed, and only after a while the owner of the device can remove the sticker.
A notable feature of this method is the fact that the device is not disabled, but only for a while it ceases to function as an all-seeing eye.
Be aware that some cameras record sound.
And this means that, despite the fact that most likely they will not hang you, they will most likely hear voices. Therefore, this method cannot be called absolutely safe.
For gluing, any adhesive elements are used, for example, scotch tape, self-adhesive paper, plaster, and so on. Film, paper, tape are glued to the lens, as a result of which the view disappears.
How to interfere with or disable a CCTV camera
Non-mechanical methods for a temporary effect:
If wireless security cameras are used, then in general everything is simple.
1) Using a jammer (jammer), you can remotely jam the frequency of the Wi-FI signal 2.4GHz-2.5GHz and 5GHz. Inexpensive models of “jammers” have a suppression radius: from 5 to 20 m; more expensive models are capable of making interference within a radius of 50-150 meters, thereby disrupting the work of your “eyes”. The Wi-Fi network will simply break, the cameras will not be able to connect to a router or registrar with Wi-fi. In this way, even a hidden wireless camera can be “interfered with”. If it’s wired, it’s much more complicated.
2) Using a regular WI-FI router. This method of disabling the device will work with cheap or outdated models. You need to tune your router to the same channel 1-13 as the subject. Then you need to connect to your device yourself and start transmitting data (traffic), the more the better. The result: a drop in speed and continuous disconnection. CCTV cameras will be constantly disconnected / connected. In modern models of routers, there is already protection for this case: a free channel is automatically selected, based on a periodic analysis of the radio broadcast.
How can you avoid this? To avoid being damaged, we recommend using a wired connection, the best Wi-fi. this is a cable!
AHD / TVI / Analog signal is susceptible to electromagnetic interference, even a shielded cable will not be able to fully protect the signal from powerful interference created by high-voltage transmission lines or antennas for satellite TV, the longer the length of the route from the video surveillance recorder to the camera, the more the cable will catch interference. You will hardly be able to completely drown the signal without the help of special tools, but it is quite possible to create ripples and degrade the quality of the picture. For a digital IP system, transmission is also carried out using an electrical signal, but the recorder and the IP camera can communicate with each other and correct errors in signal transmission, and the output image will not be affected.
By means of illumination of the camera matrix.
During the experiment, I did not succeed in illuminating a modern CCTV camera using a laser pointer, I needed something more powerful, for example, a green laser or a powerful light source aimed at the matrix through the lens. Alternatively, a mobile phone camera flash, leaning against point-blank range, may be suitable. In this way, you can disable 1-2 video cameras, and if there are more of them and some of them are hidden?
How can you disable a video surveillance camera mechanically:
Signal or supply. Any of them will be enough for the device to stop shooting with a 100% guarantee. Most often, cable routes are laid in a gray or black plastic corrugated pipe. You can protect yourself by providing for laying the route in the inaccessible zone of intruders.
Here, an attacker can use any paint, plasticine, chewing gum, adhesive paper, scotch tape. To protect against such actions, the height of the location should be from 3 meters and above (for the correct installation of video surveillance with your own hands, read our material). If the installation site does not allow it, then the only way of protection will be to place the 2nd camera “covering” the first.
Smash the lens with a hard object.
Stone, brass knuckles, hammer and similar items can be effectively used against your device. If the case is made of plastic, then it is unlikely to withstand a lot of impacts. Cameras made of metal vandal-proof bodies will have more fuss and noise. Precautions for protection are the same as for covering the lens.

Infrared and other laser radiation
Thanks to laser radiation, it is possible not only to illuminate the matrix, but also to influence the device in a different way. The following shutdown methods are considered as possible methods:
- use of combined powerful sources,
- application of infrared diodes,
- emission of long and visible waves.
Infrared diodes can burn optical sensors, together with the matrix.
However, many modern cameras are already equipped with an infrared filter, which allows you to achieve high quality images, and protects from direct rays. The camera can neutralize the harmful effect on its own, and you will not achieve what you want.
One of the surest ways to stop image transmission, while creating a so-called flare spot, is to lean the burning diode close to the lens for a long time.
But unfortunately, it is almost impossible to carry out such an action in practice.
The last option remains. this is the radiation of a long and visible wave. To do this, you need to install a powerful laser in a stationary position at a certain distance from the lens.
It takes about 20 minutes to shine into the lens.
In this case, you can wait for the result. The light source must be powerful so that the camera with its protection system cannot overcome it. A green laser is best suited for this.
How to disable a CCTV camera
Some tech forums are full of messages asking for advice on how to disable a CCTV camera. There can be a lot of reasons for such an action, ranging from the need to stop transmitting data, and ending with the intention to carry out an unlawful act.
There are a huge number of ways and means that can disable the device in one way or another, thereby interrupting the transmission of information. Some methods allow you to temporarily stop filming, while others guarantee damage to the device. If you are also asking a similar question, then you will be interested in various ways to solve the problem.
Paint or putty
Painting or putty is a less humane way. And this is because some coloring elements are very difficult to remove from the lens, as a result of which the camera may simply stop functioning.
For example, mounting paint can only be removed with a special solvent, which in turn damages the lens, blurring the image.
The owner of the camera has two options for getting out of the situation. This is to change the lens, or upgrade the entire camera.
Various dyes are used to paint the lens. These can be ordinary gouache paints that dry in direct sunlight. Perhaps these are chemical dyes that are difficult to remove.
There are special putties in the form of white strokes that fit tightly to the lens, do not let the image through, but at the same time, can be easily removed.
Unfortunately, many violators of the law use building materials that not only damage the lens, but also completely disable the system. This means that the camera will go to the trash bin.
Illumination of the device matrix
The matrix is a component of the video camera that forms the image, sends it directly to the converter.
Video recording is impossible without a matrix.
Disabling the matrix is a unique opportunity to break the device. For this you need a laser beam.
Typically, infrared laser diodes or any other laser source can burn the matrix through an optical sensor. As a result, image transmission will stop. However, the device will not be completely broken.
If the owner of the device wants to revive it, he will only have to replace the matrix, without buying a new camera.
A quick way to get a flash is to lean a brightly lit diode against the lens for a few minutes. The matrix will stop functioning, after which the image from the cameras will disappear.
The most functional accessory
A joint team from Tokyo National Institute of Informatics and Tokyo University of Technology created glasses in 2013 that have built-in infrared LEDs. In the infrared range, camera LEDs turn your face into a blur of light. It is safer, perhaps, to shine a laser beam directly into the camera, but for this you need to clearly hit the lens.
A more advanced solution in 2015 was the Privacy Visor glasses (pictured on the left). They are equipped with a sophisticated lens system that reflects, refracts and absorbs light. The technology prevents the camera from focusing, “blurs” the area around the eyes, showing it much brighter. The system identifies a person wearing ordinary sunglasses, but cannot identify the owner of the Privacy Visor.
In 2016, a startup emerged that successfully raised the money on Kickstarter to produce glasses that use miniature LEDs and a mini battery. Glasses raise some suspicion if worn at night, but they are definitely safer than the laser method (nothing looks more strange than a person poking a pointer into a camera).
Covering the camera
A simple but effective way to disable a CCTV camera. is to glue or cover up her lens. For this purpose, any paint, scotch tape, stickers, plasticine or a substance similar in consistency is suitable. The effectiveness of this method is low. Plus the availability of the camera. gross error of the installer.
However, you can close up the lens with a banal ball of putty released from a school slingshot. An ordinary stone can work for the same purposes, but this will lead to damage to property, which can only aggravate the position of the criminal if he is caught.
The most original version. pour liquid glue into a plastic bag and, spinning it on your finger, launch it into a video surveillance camera for the street. However, it requires high precision and considerable experience; if it still succeeds, then the stuck package will not be removed from the lens soon, and this time will be enough to turn the dark deeds.

Who and why may need to disable the camera?
The target audience is usually. potential violators of the law who can be interfered with by video surveillance. Destruction of cameras to vandals and hooligans. entertainment and psychological relaxation, for the organizers of terrorist attacks and other criminal acts. an opportunity to evade responsibility.
Do not discount the ideological fighters with video surveillance. their motivation, as a rule, lies in the ideology based on the postulates that the use of cameras not only does not reduce the crime rate, but also interferes with the private life of citizens without good reason. An additional argument often made by fighters. the generation of social injustice and enmity between different strata of society.
Cut the wiring
The most obvious way to avoid shining your face in the video is. interrupt data transmission to the monitor. This can be done quickly, easily and efficiently by cutting the cable.
Any sharp object is suitable for this purpose, preferably. with insulated handles in case a voltage cable of more than 36 volts goes to the camera.
Smearing with paint
This method has a large radius of action, but requires the use of a certain technique. The most efficient option. a water gun filled with paint or a paintball gun. Experts who talk about how to disable a video surveillance camera advise using water-based emulsion paint and pistols with a removable high-capacity tank. It is advisable to dilute the dye before pouring, otherwise high viscosity can negatively affect the range of the gun and jam its mechanism.
How to disable a CCTV camera? CCTV hacking software
Intrinsic safety of video surveillance systems. one of the discussed, but solved problems. Experts in this field, trying to bypass programs for hacking CCTV cameras, miss the simplest methods of bypassing them, being carried away by effective methods of struggle. Of course, anti-vandal domes can easily tolerate any damage, but no one bothers to glue them with stickers.
On the Internet, you can find many instructions on how to discreetly disable a CCTV camera and effectively resist shooting without resorting to high costs. What methods can be used and what to use. share below.
Exposure to a laser beam
One of the high-tech options for how to disable a CCTV camera. An intense beam of light directed into the lens leads to the illumination of the sensitive element, which partially or completely covers the image with a spot. Not all cameras can cope with this effect. even those with a wide dynamic range. In this case, the laser pointer will be perfectly visible on the recording, but the figure of the person directing it. not.
Laser radiation
As a method of exposure, the following are considered:
- infrared diodes (remote controls or whole batteries assembled from semiconductors of the class in question);
- radiation of visible wavelengths;
- powerful combined sources.
In the first place in terms of mention. infrared diodes and other sources of the wave of the invisible part of the Spectra. There is an opinion that such lasers can simply burn the optical sensor.
The trouble is that most modern cameras are equipped with an IR filter, which allows you to achieve high quality night shooting.
It virtually neutralizes the harmful effect of infrared diodes, reducing power transmission to the optical sensor to a minimum.
The only sure way to block the image by creating a spot of light is to lean the diode close to the camera lens.
It is irrational to implement such an option in practice, in most cases it is impossible.
Visible wavelength light works only as a spot of illumination.
In practical implementation, in order to obtain the desired result (complete blocking of the camera), you will need to install a laser or a powerful focused light source in a stationary position and constantly shine into the lens.
All modern video surveillance devices are equipped with an adjustment system based on external lighting indicators.
Therefore, the blocking source must be powerful enough. In theory, a green laser will do. But installing it permanently is problematic.
Another opinion associated with high-power lasers is that they can be used to burn an optical sensor. This is not true. Modern cameras and their semiconductor light-sensitive sensors work stably even when heated to high temperatures under the influence of sunlight.
Plus. most of the active Spectra laser will be scattered. To burn the sensor, you will need to bring the emitter very close to the lens and wait a long time. Easier to cover glass with chewing gum.
An amateur circuit based on a laser from DVD writing drives and lenses from laser pointers is considered as a revolutionary solution. Yes, the device ignites the head of a match from a distance of up to half a meter.
On the forums of amateurs, it is tactfully silent that this happens at a sufficiently low temperature, and the performer of the trick needs to have a firm hand to hold a speck of light in one place for several seconds.
The problem of disabling the camera with such a device is:
- a sharp drop in power with increasing distance;
- inability to track focus for optimal power transfer;
- small affected area.
Burning the entire sensor will not work, even in theory. And practice makes additional adjustments: most cameras are built using a small mirror, which allows you to lengthen the path of focusing the image on a small sensor and a lens that is guaranteed to knock the focus of the laser.
How to disable a CCTV camera. checking popular myths and theories
With some frequency, on forums where, let’s say, passionate-minded individuals without impressive age-related achievements live, the question pops up: how to disable a CCTV camera.
There are a huge number of recipes, myths, electrical diagrams are given, photographs supposedly showing amazing results of homemade products, there are even cases of attempts to sell a variety of wunderwaffe.
The problem is that modern cameras are designed for stable reliability, and modern technologies effectively resist light and other influences of handicraft “wunderwaffle”.
Mechanical impact
It is more difficult for vandals to destroy cameras in protected cases. Amateurs pass, but in the hands of professionals. even a slingshot bought on aliexpress with a powerful rubber band and balls from the bearing show excellent results.

Not to mention the unlicensed pneumatic pistols that pierce a bottle of champagne from a distance of 1 m with a 4.5 mm bullet.
Interruption of data flow
And now fly in the ointment for the owners of ultra-modern cameras connected via WI-FI, giving access via the Internet. Even a beginner can block such devices.
- one of the industrially produced jamming devices;
- handicraft assembled circuit that creates a high level of interference over the entire frequency band of the wireless channel;
- a trivial router that has the ability to switch the working channel and is equipped with powerful emitter antennas.
The mechanics of work are simple. the transfer channel is clogged with a large chaotic data stream or interference. This does not damage the camera. But the picture ceases to transmit.

Vulnerabilities of CCTV Cameras
Further narration will be based on a simple position: an attacker who wants to disable the camera prefers not to read the forums, but to act with brute force or apply techniques that are guaranteed to bring the desired result.
Therefore, we will focus on a wide variety of myths, some of the variants of which, under a certain set of circumstances, can briefly disrupt the operation of video surveillance devices.
Areas of direct or partial access, vulnerabilities of the camera, include:
- power and signal cables;
- wireless transfer channel;
- optical sensor.
All options for vandal actions performed by beginners are, in one way or another, directed precisely at these points of the device.
How can you disable a CCTV camera
As influences on non-professional forums, it is proposed:
- light and infrared radiation;
- means for creating magnetic induction;
- brute force vandalism.
The effectiveness of the latest methods is maximum. But among the polemicizing amateurs, they are in last place, since they require some effort, skill, preparation (both physical and at the scene of the crime). Therefore, we will evaluate the reliability of the most common myths.
Magnetic radiation
To disable the camera with a magnet, you need access to the open part of the cable.
This method is realizable in practice, subject to certain conditions. The main thing is that the field strength must be huge or changing (to create interference).
Since access to an open section of transmission lines, the most powerful neodymium magnets, the possibility of carrying a solenoid, a control unit, a battery for beginners is not available. the myths about blocking the camera in this way refer only to the field of open bragging.
Especially if Honor has a simple fact: common IP cameras (and not only) use data transfer protocols with error correction and redundancy, a stable picture is guaranteed even with a strong level of interference.
Illumination of the device matrix
The matrix is a component of the video camera that forms the image, sends it directly to the converter.
Disabling the matrix is a unique opportunity to break the device. For this you need a laser beam.

Disconnecting communication
Most often, cameras are powered by a network. And in the event that the wires that provide uninterrupted power are cut, the camera may automatically turn off. Unfortunately, such an action completely incapacitates the camera. Contacts open, the camera stops functioning.
At the same time, the records that were in the process of processing at the moment are damaged.
Unfortunately, after such exposure, the device cannot be repaired.
However, in order to avoid such actions, many cameras began to be equipped with special wireless batteries.
How to disable CCTV cameras discreetly?
If all of the above methods are noticeable enough and can be prevented, then below we offer for review methods that allow you to avoid collisions with the owner of the camera, since no one will directly see any physical impact.

- Once you’ve found an open transmission area, arm yourself with a powerful magnet.
- Leave the magnet in an open area for a while.
- After half an hour, you can feel the effect of such an impact. the image will start jumping, after which the transmission will stop altogether.
