How to connect 2 computers to a local network via a network cable
Greetings all visitors.
In our time, many at home have several computers, however, not all of them are combined into a local network And the local network gives very interesting things: you can play network games, share files (or use the total disk space in general), work together over Documents and T.D.
There are several ways to combine computers in the local network, but one of the cheapest and simple is to use a network cable (normal twisted pair) by connecting them network cards of computers. That’s how it is done and consider in this article.
Preparation and a little theory
Before switching to the process of connecting and settings, you must first make sure that you have a contract on your hands you have concluded with the provider. This contract is provided to you after concluding a contract with the Internet service provider. It needs to be stored in himself, and his loss is undesirable.
In addition to the transfer of your legal rights and obligations, the contract contains the following information useful for you:
- contract number that serves as a kind of identifier. In case of problems with the Internet, you can call the provider and inform it this number. Through it, he will be able to automatically go to the client, for whom this number is fixed (that is, at you), and it will be faster than calling the address and surname.
- Provider address. At the address of the address you can come and discuss topics related to the Internet personally with a representative of the provider company.
- phone number. A simple way to contact a company representative, well, or ask him to extend the Internet, if you do not have the opportunity to pay for it at the moment. Usually they agree to this, as they do not lose anything, but they receive approval from customers.
- Type of Internet connection.
The last item is especially important. Type of Internet connection You need to know for correct configuration. Configuring the Internet depends not on how you connected the Internet (through the cable directly or through the connection of the cable to the router), and on what kind of connection type you have. They are as follows:
- Dynamic IP. The easiest way to set up connection type. All data for a successful connection to the global network you will automatically (if the appropriate item is specified in the settings, but about it later).
- Static IP. If you have this type of connection, you will have to configure the Internet manually.
- PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol Over Ethernet). This type of Internet connection will require you to enter a login and password when connected.
To find out what kind of type you have, read the contract. it should be listed there. If not, then specify this question from the provider by calling the number that is specified in the contract. There are other types of connections (for example, PPTP or L2TP), but among providers in the CIS they are almost never used. Priority is given by three types described above.
Preparation for connection
Before moving directly to the connection process, you need to make sure that some components required for this. These components are only two.
The first is a network card that must be integrated into all computers that you intend to connect on the local network. The network card is present in the overwhelming majority of all computers, even the oldest models. But if you doubt it, that is, two ways to check it out:
Check the list of network adapters through “Device Manager”. You can go to this menu using the “Computer” shortcut properties. It can also be done using various utilities designed to view computer characteristics (for example, Aida64, Speccy, Everest and the like).
The second required component is a network cable (it is also twisted steam, it is a LAN cable). Such a cable can be bought at the electronics store or order online. If you plan to connect only two computers directly, you will be enough just one cable. If you intend to use the router, then you will need so many cables, how many computers you are going to connect the local network (for two computers you will need two cables). We will talk about the methods of connection in the next part of the article.
When you made sure that you have these two necessary components in the presence, you can switch to connecting.
Before you configure the Internet on your computer, check the type of access to the provider that it offers. PPPoE access requires not only the right settings, but also authorization using login and password. This connection method will be needed if you do not use the modem or router, and insert the cable from the provider directly to the connector on the computer, without intermediaries.
To do this, you go to the “Network Management Center” again and choose there, create a new connection with it.
In the started wizard, you choose the first item. “Internet connection”. and click “Next”. Then in the window that appears, you must select “High Speed (with PPPoE)”.
The final step remained. In the final window you need to come up with a name for connecting and enter the login and password issued by the provider. If a few people use your computer (for example, family members), everyone under her account, and you want to give them all access, then check the box in the “Allow use this connection to other accounts”.
Now make sure the Internet connection works. And if so, hello, peace!
How to connect cable internet to computer
In order to implement this, we will need:
- Wi-Fi Router having at least one non-busy connector for LAN cable (its color yellow).
- Network cable. Such a cable with a minimum length is included with the router you purchased. But if a cable is needed with a greater length, it can be purchased in one of the computer stores.
- PC with a network card or connector.
Next, we need to take a network cable, after which one end connect it to a yellow LAN connector located on the back of the router. It does not matter which cable will be connected to which one of several connectors. Another end it must be connected to the appropriate connector on the device.
Now check whether the indicator lights up that the computer was connected to the LAN connector. If so, then you need to look at the computer display. On the notifications panel, in the lower right corner, the connection status should be displayed without marking an error. If so, the device is connected to the Internet.

To connect a router, we need to make the Internet in one of his connectors, and to other connect all household gadgets. All these connectors are located, most often, not the rear panel of the router. Take a look there. One of them must be signed as “Internet”, and the rest. as “LAN 1”, “LAN 2”, “LAN 3”, and so on, depending on the quantity. Instruction is such.
- Turn on the router in the outlet.
- Take the wire that makes the Internet to you in the apartment, and stuck it in the connector, over which “Internet” is written. Now your router connected to the global network.
- Lay the network connector on the system block of your computer. Most often it is located on the rear panel, close to USB connections, where you stick flash drives. If this is your home laptop, then the network connector is most likely located on one of the lateral sides.
- Connect the network cable with one end to this connectivity. It leads to a network card of this device.
- Connect the second end of the cable to any router connector with the inscription “LAN”. On your computer should appear in the Internet. Use the remaining “LAN” connectors to connect the rest of your home gadgets.
Advice. Usually, the router has light indicators that can inform you about the progress of work. One of them should notify you that the router is included in the network. If you correctly connected the device to the Internet, it will tell you another indicator. Separate light bulbs indicate that each of the “LAN” is working properly.
What you need to start work?
1) 2 computers with network cards to which we will connect vitua couple.
All modern laptops (computers), as a rule, have at least one network card in their arsenal. The easiest way to find out if you have a network card on a PC. it is to use some utility to view the PC characteristics (about such utilities cm. In this article: https: // PCPRO100.Info / Harakteristiki-kompyutera / # i).
By the way, you can also pay attention to all connectors that are on the laptop housing (computer). If there is a network card. you will see the standard RJ45 connector (see. rice. 2).
2) Network cable (so-called twisted pair).
The easiest option is to just buy such a cable. True, this option will be suitable if the computers are not far from each other and you do not need to drive a cable through the wall.
If the situation is reverse, perhaps you will need to crimp the cable in place (and therefore specials will be needed. Pliers, cable of the desired length and RJ45 connectors (the most common connector for connecting to routers and network cards)). This is described in detail in this article: https: // PCPRO100.info / kak-ibzhat-kabel-interneta /
Internet access access
Network connection with two PC output to the Internet can be configured if an additional network board is installed on one of the PC and the Internet distribution is set.
After physical connection PC, in addition to the settings specified above, you will also need to specify the gateway number in the TCP / IPv4 protocol setting on both PC.
Open the settings “Connecting over the local network” with the right mouse button and select “Properties” (see. Steps 5-8 to “Software Connection Software”).
Specify the gateway 192.168.0.1, if the Internet is configured to PC with IP address 192.168.0.one.
To do “Steps 1-2” on another PC.
Total connection to the Internet is configured.
Possible internet access problems
Lack of access to various websites can be caused by a malfunction of a modem or router.
Many people use a modem to connect to the Internet (for example, from Rostelecom), which is a physical device transmitting digital data on analog channels. The modem converts an analog signal into digital, and vice versa.
Router (for example, from TP-Link) is a physical device that connects to the Internet through a wired, wireless or mobile network. In addition, it can combine into one local network all devices equipped with Ethernet network ports and Wi-Fi adapters. With it, the local network participants can freely exchange files and remotely control other devices (for example, printers, TVs, etc. D.).
Need to look at the router. If blue or green indicators are blinking on it (manufacturers can use different colors), it is normal and indicates a stable connection to the Internet and a local network.
But if continuously flashing orange (or red) lights are observed, it usually indicates no connection. The same applies to the modem. a flashing orange light typically testifies to breakage or error.
If the indicators indicate the presence of a problem on both devices, you should try to turn off and on them again. That is, to reboot. This action can be performed, even if the indicators blink normally. there are some routers that sometimes need to restart so that they work correctly.
After a few minutes, the modem or router must connect to the provider again. An error can be caused by updating the servers of the provider itself.
If this does not solve the problem, you can reset the router settings or update the firmware. To check whether the problem is really associated with the router, you can connect an Ethernet computer cable directly to the modem, bypassing the router. If the connection is restored, it will become clear which device causes the problem.
If network problems arise only with one computer on the local network, then most likely this software error. It can be caused by a virus, any malicious or error in the browser. You need to check the system using the antivirus program and install another browser, and then try to open a website using the new program. Other errors are possible, for example, incorrectly configured firewall.
As it turned out, connect to the router through the cable is easy. And with any possible problems you can handle yourself. As a last resort, you can always call the Provider specialists.
