How to connect an IP camera to a computer. detailed instructions

When installing a modern video surveillance system on your own, you should ensure its functioning, Having figured out how to connect an IP camera to a computer and correctly configure the equipment. Various connection methods and modern video monitoring technologies, their use step by step. topic of this article.

Equipment preparation

connect, dome, camera

A guide for connecting an IP camera to a computer will help you successfully cope with the task only if you have a full set of equipment that make up a single video surveillance system, all elements of which are compatible.

If only one IP camera will be used for video monitoring, the set of system components is minimal:

  • The actual IP video camera.
  • Power Supply.
  • Video recorder.
  • Hard disk for recorder.
  • Cables.
  • Hardware software disc.

In this case, connecting directly to a computer or laptop and the initial setup of the camera is much easier. But the recorder and X series camera from one manufacturer are preferred, be it the Chinese company Hikvision or another.

It is also recommended to include a GSM informer in the video surveillance system. a device that gives an alarm by a call or SMS.

You don’t need a special computer program to view cameras, you can enter their web interface through a regular browser. IP cameras, in fact, are designed to transfer data in video format to the network, so you need to view the Internet with a good quality connection. A static IP address is also required. If you need to change the dynamic IP to the static one, you should contact your provider.

Installation and use of IP cameras with a Wi-Fi interface requires a laptop or stationary computer with a working WI-FI adapter.

Choice of cables

The choice in favor of Chinese video cameras that support Power over Ethernet (PoE for short) technology allows you to establish power supply using Ethernet cables, which are also called “twisted pairs”. It is very convenient and profitable, because each IP camera does not need a separate socket.

Twisted pairs are divided into 9 categories.

Category frequency band, MHz
CAT1 0.1 For audio transmission
CAT2 1 2 pairs of conductors, still used in telephone networks, not used in video monitoring systems
CAT3 sixteen 4-pair, used as Ethernet cable, NOT more than 100 meters
CAT4 20 4-pair, used in token ring networks, currently not used
CAT5 100 4-pair, for connecting local area networks (LAN) and telephone lines
CAT5e 125 4-pair, the most common cable for computer networks
CAT6 250 4-pair, for LAN
CAT6a 500 4-pair unshielded, for high-speed LANs
CAT7 700 4-pair, shielded, for high speed LANs

There are also three types of on-site Ethernet cables, which are easily distinguished by the color of the outer sheath of the cable.

Cable sheath color
Gray indoors
the black outside
Orange In premises with increased fire safety requirements

You should also distinguish between twisted pairs for shielding, that is, protection against interference:

  • UTP. without shielding.
  • FTP. with foil shielding.
  • STP. with copper braid and foil sheath.

If no strong interference is observed at the location of the IP cameras, it is recommended to lay UTP cables, and those that do not require grounding, are easy to install and at the same time cost less than the second.

It remains to highlight two options for the twisted pair for crimping the connector:

  • Straight cable. to connect the port of the network card to the router.
  • Crossover cable. to connect two network cards.

To connect to a computer, a router needs a direct one. To connect the camera if one will apply. cross.

Installing one IP camera

Step-by-step algorithm on how to connect an IP camera to a computer without a router:

  • Find out the IP addresses of the video camera.
  • Find out the IP of the local network.
  • Install the webcam, connect the power supply, connect the IP camera to the computer with a crossover cable. Make sure the lights on the video device are on to confirm that the connection is correct.
  • Insert the disk with the web camera software with the connection and configuration programs into the drive and start.
  • Change camera address.
  • Register a port for the video camera.
  • Disable AI camera and restart computer.

How to find out the IP

The owner can easily find out the IP of his camera in several ways:

  • From the device label, if these numbers are indicated on it.
  • From instructions.
  • Using the program on the mentioned disk.
  • If you have a software disc, download the appropriate utility on the Internet (for this, it is advisable to go to the manufacturer’s website).

The correct way to find out the LAN IP behind a laptop (computer):

  • Pressing Windows R keys to open command term.
  • Enter the text cmd into it, click OK.
  • In the black window that appears, enter ipconfig, press Enter.

The system will display all the required numbers. We recommend writing them down on paper.

How to change IP addresses

It is easy to prove the need to change the webcam address. until this is done, the user is doomed to complain that the computer does not see the device.

You can change the numbers on the camcorder:

  • Using that program (utility) from the manufacturer. from disk or website. through which they can be recognized.
  • Through the device web interface.

The utility from the aforementioned Chinese company Hikvision is called SADP. If you bought a camera from another company, the instructions for the device or the menu of the supplied software disc will help you find the program you need.

How to change IP through the webcam interface step by step:

  • Open Control Panel, go to Network and Internet. Network Control Center.
  • In the line “Connections” select “Local network” or “Ethernet”.
  • In the window that appears, it will be called “Properties”. “IP protocol version 4 Ipv4”.
  • Select the properties of the protocol and register as the IP address of the IP local network, and in the field “Default gateway”. new IP web cameras invented by the user.
  • Save settings and exit.
  • Open a browser, set a new IP camera in the search bar. If the previous steps were taken the right way, the login and password will be invited.
  • Enter the login with the password from the instructions. Go to the “Network” tab.
  • Register the same new IP camera, standard subnet mask, IP modem or router in the “gateway” field and the same numbers. in the “DNS IP addresses” field.
  • Register the port number, changing the default value “80”, for example, to “801”.
  • Save settings and reload web camera.

Before installing several units or dozens of video cameras at the facility, this procedure must be done with all of them. Each should be assigned a separate ai pi addresses with unique numbers after the aforementioned third point and for each write a port number.

Checking the video surveillance system

At the final stage of setting up the camera after the connection procedure, it remains to check the system, make sure that the installed and configured video surveillance really works.

To do this, you just need to set in the address bar of the browser

If everything is done correctly, the browser tab will display video from the camera, the IP and port of which are set in the address period.

Connecting the IP camera to the recorder

Next, the IP camera must be connected to the DVR.

This procedure consists of the following sequence of actions:

  • The recorder is connected to the modem.
  • Web addresses of the DVR are driven into the address bar of the browser.
  • In the window that appears, enter the login and password from this device.
  • The webcam is bound to the recorder in the configuration settings.
  • Click “Save”.
  • Web camera reboots.

If the video surveillance system includes a considerable number of video cameras, each one is tied to the DVR in the same way.

After connecting, you will also need to synchronize the operation of the devices, which is performed in the browser. system settings. You should go to “Channel Management.” “Modes”, select a channel and add a device, set its search, and after waiting for it to complete, enter the password and save the settings.

P2pwi-Ficam

An alternative way of video surveillance with the introduction of one webcam and a smartphone instead of a computer. buying a P2P camera and downloading the P2pWi-Ficam app. This equipment provides video monitoring with a remote connection to a video device by ID number. no static ah pi address.

With a P2P webcam and a smartphone, access to the video surveillance system is open from anywhere in the world.

Video. Connecting multiple cameras

Instructions on how to connect an IP camera to a computer, if there are two or more of them, and does not differ in complexity. The more time you need to spend, the more devices are needed for the video surveillance system.

Before connecting to a laptop or computer and configuring, you should:

  • Determine the goals of video monitoring. only territory monitoring or identification of persons guilty of illegal entry into the facility.
  • Plan the location of IP cameras, covering all surveillance areas in accordance with the tasks.
  • Install the required number of web cameras in the right places. Important: devices should be placed in such a way that bright light from spotlights, direct sunlight, etc. does not enter the lens, and also minimize the likelihood of damage to cameras.
  • Connect video devices to power supply.

The power source can be a router (router, switch) if you connect cameras to it via the LAN ports.

The abbreviation LAN stands for Local Area Network, in Russian. LAN (local area network). All cameras are connected in twisted pairs to the router via LAN ports, and the router / switch is connected to the computer with a straight cable.

To properly connect IP cameras via Wi Fi, you must:

  • Enter the wireless network access data in the webcam setup program.
  • Configure Wi-Fi interface in Windows.
  • Disable cameras and restart your computer.

The rest of the setup process is the same as for using one video camera.

Cloud service

If it is problematic or impossible to provide full-fledged video surveillance with a WI-FI network, we will apply another method, how to connect IP cameras to a computer. by cloudy method.

Cloud servers with software that provide processing and storage of data from web cameras are free and paid. Freebies belong to video equipment manufacturers and are intended for buyers of products from a particular company. Paid services serve equipment owners from different manufacturers.

To independently connect to the free Cloud, you need a video recorder with support for cloud technology.

After connecting the recorder and installing webcams, you should:

  • Launches the connection program (utility) that comes with the DVR.
  • Go to the free cloud service portal through the browser.
  • Select the Cloud ID menu.
  • Enter the device code determined by the utility.

If the user of the video surveillance system decides to use the services of a commercial cloud resource, text and video instructions on the service website, as well as support staff, will help to connect the cameras.

How to connect and configure IP surveillance cameras

Video surveillance based on IP technology is an excellent solution for building a high quality security system. IP cameras have wide functionality and are able to satisfy the needs of any object, regardless of the complexity of the task.

A wide range of products offers equipment in different price segments. IP cameras have ceased to be very expensive and inaccessible to a wide range of consumers, and now you can pick up inexpensive equipment for building a video surveillance system in an apartment, at the entrance, in the country, etc. In this article, we will describe in detail how to launch an IP camera without the participation of specialists.

Connecting an IP Camera

Earlier we described how analog cameras are connected. The installation process of IP cameras is similar to the installation of analog cameras, the only difference is that in this case, instead of RG6 (coaxial) cable, UTP (8 cores, twisted pair) cable is used.

Instead of a BNC connector, we use RJ45, which requires a crimping tool to secure it. If the camera is installed at a short distance from the switch (up to 20m), then you can refuse the ball screw cable and use free cores of the UTP cable instead. The fact is that with a simple Internet connection with a speed of up to 100 Mbit (and this speed is quite enough for us), only 1, 2, 3 and 6 conductors are used. The rest of the wires can be used to power the camera, for example, blue and brown. If the distance is greater. better to use ballscrew or PoE (see below).

The crimping process is NOT complicated, the main thing to remember is that we insert the wires into the RJ45 connector in the following order:

Selected for power supply, brown and blue strips and Install the power connector (preferably, so as not to get confused, use striped under “minus”, and full color under “plus”).

In the case when we are talking about an IP-camera with WI-FI, then during installation we lead only the power cable to the camera.

We will attach the camera to the installation site only after we finish its initial setup.

To change the settings, we need:

  • A computer;
  • Camera power supply;
  • Patch cord (commutation cable) for connecting to a computer network;
  • Network switch or router with free ports.

Apply power to the camera with a patch cord, connect it to the network switch, and in its absence, to the computer’s network input.

When purchasing a camera, check with the vendor which default IP address is assigned to the camera. Also, Require camera setup software.

PoE IP Camera Connection

There is a technology for transmitting power over an Ethernet cable. Poe (Power Over Ethernet). If the IP camera supports the PoE standard, then it does NOT require a separate power cable. In this case, the camera will be powered from the power cord. It is important to note that one IP-camera with PoE is not enough for this technology to work. It is also required that the switch (switch) also supports PoE. It is he who acts as a “power supply”.

PoE cameras are slightly more expensive than conventional cameras.

Network settings

Considering that IP cameras work only with a computer network, consider its settings.

You need to set a static IP address on your computer. If the cameras, for example, 192.168.1.164, then on the computer set a similar address, for example, 192.168.1.10 (the main thing is that the last digit is different).

This is done in the “Control Panel Network and Internet Viewing Network Status and Tasks Changing Adapter Settings”. Here you need to select our network interface and right-click on “Properties”. Next, double click on “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP / IPv4)”, select “Use the following IP address” and enter the static address.

In addition, it is worth immediately deciding which IP addresses we will assign to cameras and check that they are NOT occupied by other devices. With standard factory settings, routers automatically issue an address starting from 192.168.1.100 or 192.168.0.100. Based on this, it is better to assign the cameras an address in 192.168.1.100 or leave a reserve of addresses and start, for example, from 192.168.1.200.

In total, only 254 addresses are available to us in one network. 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.254. Usually 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.1.254 is assigned to the router. If there are many devices connected to your computer network, and you are NOT sure which addresses are available, you can use a network scanner such as Advanced IP Scanner (the program does not have to be installed, after downloading it you can just run it).

After starting the program, click “Scan” and wait until the end. Scanning is best done during rush hour when all devices are on. Having chosen the address for all our cameras, we proceed to the initial setup.

Initial step of configuring IP cameras (changing network settings)

Consider 2 options: when there is camera software from the manufacturer and when it is not available.

Configuring IP Cameras Using the Software Supplied with the Camera

Usually there are two programs on the disk:

  • Program for detecting IP cameras on the network.
  • A program for viewing and managing video recording from cameras (using the second software, any computer can be converted to a DVR).

We start with the first program. The interface may differ depending on the manufacturer, but the basic functions are present everywhere.

Examples of program interface from different manufacturers.

The main purpose of this program. search for cameras in the network, change the IP address and second network parameters, as well as update the camera firmware.

At the first start, we use search. After scanning the network, the program will display all found video cameras and recorders. It is worth emphasizing a nice feature: even in the case of a conflict of IP addresses, when two different devices are assigned the same IP address (a similar situation happens with newly purchased cameras, since they come from the supplier with the same IP address), the program allows you to work with each device separately. Accordingly, in the presence of this software, we can sequentially change the network settings of several cameras connected to the computer NOT directly, but through a switch.

Having selected the camera, we change its IP address and, if necessary, the HTTP port through which the connection is made. In the GateWay and DNS section, you should specify the IP addresses of the router. If you want to prohibit the camera from accessing the Internet, then in THESE fields, you should specify incorrect data.

It is not recommended to enable dynamic IP address in the camera. This setting is also called DHCP. Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. In this case, the real IP address for the camera is assigned by the router automatically. This happens every time the camera is turned on. The problem is that it can be a new IP address every time. But the recorder “remembers” only one address, the one that was in the camera at the time of its connection to the recorder. And if the camera receives a new address, the registrar simply will not “see” it. DHCP. This is convenient, but it can be a big problem. It usually looks like the cameras start to disappear and appear on the recorder. Therefore, we strongly DO NOT recommend using dynamic IP address settings on cameras.

After filling in all the fields, enter the login and password of the camera (by default admin; admin) and save the changes by clicking Modify.

Changing network settings without native camera software

If there is software bundled with the camera, we will use the Internet Explorer browser to enter the camera’s web interface. To do this, in the browser settings, you must change the security settings for ActiveX add-ons. This is done in the “Internet Options” where we select “Security”. “Other” and, scrolled down the slider, we find “ActiveX controls and plug-ins”. We move all ActiveX settings to the “Enabled” position (the browser will be outraged by the violation of the security policy, but do not pay attention. After the first successful connection to the camera and the installation of the ActiveX add-on We will restore security by agreeing with the browser’s request).

Configuring Security Settings for the Internt Explorer Browser

In the browser, enter the IP address of the camera received from the supplier. When you first log in, the software will ask you to install the ActiveX setting (depending on the camera model, the installed software may have different names). We agree, otherwise most of the settings will be unavailable (in the described case, download the proposed software).

After installation, reload the page.

Entering the username and password (by default admin; admin) gets into the web interface of our IP camera.

Depending on the manufacturer, the camera interface may look different, but the basic functions are the same everywhere.

IP camera control interface

The network settings are in the NetWork tab.

Camera network settings

QR codes are also available here for downloading a mobile application on Android and IPhone, as well as a device code for activating access to the camera through the cloud service, if provided by the camera manufacturer.

After changing the network parameters, click “OK”, after which the camera reboots.

Configuring Basic Camera Settings

After we have changed the network settings, our cameras are ready to be installed in the selected locations.

After finishing the installation (the cameras are fixed, the connectors are connected), set the viewing angle. To do this, apply power and connect the cable to the router or switch, enter the web interface through the browser and see the picture broadcast by the camera. At this stage, it is convenient to use someone’s help: one person, being in the computer, reports on the phone what the camera sees, and the second adjusts its direction. After making sure that the monitor displays exactly what you need to see, proceed to the basic camera settings.

Main sections of camera software

Let’s take a look at the main sections and functions available in the camera software.

Reset

In this section, we find functions for maintaining the camera:

Reboot System. reboot camera.

Restore Factory Settings. reset to factory settings. This function should be used in cases when the camera is working with errors. Before contacting the warranty department, please reset and re-configure the camera. Typically, a reset does not change the network settings.

Scheduled Reboot. reboot on schedule. We recommend choosing a daily reboot.

Firmware versionSoftware version. data in camera firmware and software.

Upgrade. firmware update function. In some cases, the update can also help to deal with operational errors. The update can be obtained from the manufacturer’s website or from the camera supplier.

Log search. camera event report

This section will help you understand the operation of the camera, and in case of errors, find their cause. In the search parameters, you can enter the date and time to search for events.

Alarm. Anxiety

Camera motion detection settings. The fact is that, unlike analog and high-resolution cameras, where the video recorder is engaged in detecting motion, the camera itself detects motion in an IP camera. When this function is activated, the camera performs the selected action. sending video or still frame to FTP, SMTP or Cloud service. In addition, the camera sends a command to the DVR, and it starts recording according to its setting.

Here it is imperative to activate Alarm and Motion detection, otherwise the recorder will not record on motion.

Messaging functions You can not activate.

Service. Alert Service Settings

Used in conjunction with the functions from the previous section. Here you can specify exactly where messages activated in the Alarms section will be sent.

Date time. Date and time settings

In this section, we set the time zone, date and time. In addition, by indicating the exact time server, and if the Internet is available, the camera will be able to set the correct time by itself. Also, here you can synchronize the time with the computer from which you entered the camera web interface.

Motion. Motion detection parameters

In this section, you select the sensitivity of the motion detector, as well as the zone in which the motion will be tracked. When no zone is selected, motion recording will not be possible. By selecting a zone, you can bypass objects such as trees or other unwanted objects, the movements of which will cause the recording of unimportant moments.

Privacy. private areas

The section is devoted to setting up a private zone. There are times when there is something in the frame that does not need to be recorded. In such a situation, you can use this function and paint over the object. On video, everything will look the same as in this menu. In the described camera model, the setting of three private zones is available.

Image. Image options

Here are the settings that affect the overall image. Of the basic ones, contrast, brightness and saturation are usually used. Additionally, you can activate Back light compensation. backlight compensation. Typically used when recording against light or against bright objects. The effect. the background is blown out, and the foreground is better viewed.

There is another useful feature here. manual adjustment of the white balance White Balance. There are situations when shooting in a room where the walls are painted in a bright color, which disrupts the display of colors in the camera image. A similar effect occurs, for example, when the windows in a room are tinted and daylight turns out to be painted in a different tone. White balance can fix this problem. To do this, activate the manual mode: White BalanceManual, and move the RedGreenBlue Gain slider to change the display of colors in the frame.

Audio. Sound settings

In the case when the camera is equipped with a microphone, here you can activate it and adjust the sensitivity. Regarding the sensitivity, it is worth noting that it is not recommended to set it to the maximum, as extraneous noise appears.

If you need high-quality sound recording, you should pay attention to IP cameras with the ability to connect an external microphone. In such a camera, in addition to the power connector and connection to a computer network, there is also a tulip connector for connecting a microphone. For good sound, you can purchase a microphone that is more sensitive than the usual built-in microphone. In addition, an external microphone can be positioned directly above the listening area. To do this, at the stage of installation, a power cable is drawn to the chosen place (basically all microphones require external power), as well as a cable for sound transmission. It is convenient to use a UTP cable for this: you use one pair for sound, and the rest for power.

User. Users. 11. Storage. Disk management. 12. Settings. Camera settings

This section provides video encoding settings (main and sub stream), as well as displaying date and time.

In the Codec menu, you can select the resolution with which the recording will be carried out.

Framerate is responsible for the number of frames per second.

Bit Rate by the number of kilobits stored per second of recording.

OSD text displays text that you can enter yourself, for example, camera number, and OSD position is responsible for where this text is displayed.

In general, the codec settings are responsible for the picture quality. It is worth emphasizing that depending on these options, the final weight of the video file also changes. When choosing these parameters, you need to take into account many factors, such as the speed of movement of the objects being shot. if it is large, then frames per second should be higher; distance between camera and subject. if the camera is installed in a narrow corridor, the bit rate can be underestimated, since the object is already filmed at close range and the quality can be neglected, and, conversely, small details are better displayed at a high bit rate.

We will devote a separate article to the issues of fine tuning of IP cameras, since this topic cannot be disclosed in a nutshell.

After finishing the configuration, we reboot the camera from the Restore menu, after which you can proceed to the configuration of the recording device, as well as setting up the network equipment to activate remote access.

Before Connecting IP CCTV Cameras Read the instruction manual of the camera, keep it handy and print it out for convenience.

Honestly, one of the biggest disadvantages of IP cameras. This is the complexity of their connection and configuration. This task requires the participation of more trained professionals. Which, in turn, can increase the cost of work.

It is also not recommended to engage in setting up IP cameras if you have little or no experience. You will spend a lot of time until all the little things become clear. But sometimes people get stumped. Here’s an example: a person bought PoE. The camera, but did not know that the switch must also be with PoE. And so on.

In order not to get into a similar situation. Please contact our specialists! We will quickly and efficiently perform all types of work on setting up and connecting IP cameras.

How to connect an IP dome camera

If you do not remember your password, then enter your email and you will receive a login link. After authorization, enter your new password in the profile settings.

Let’s analyze the connection of the IP camera to the recorder step by step using our equipment as an example. The process is pretty straightforward, especially if you follow the setup instructions. The presence of several surveillance zones implies the installation of various types of CCTV cameras. If the protected facility has only IP cameras, then in order to save money, it is better to purchase an IP recorder. If you plan to use different cameras, then you should know how to connect an IP camera to a hybrid DVR. First you need to configure the DVR to work on the network, then the cameras themselves.

It makes no sense to consider connecting an IP camera to an analog recorder, because these devices as such have already gone out of use due to low performance. They are being replaced by hybrid models designed to connect various types of video cameras. As a result, we get all the observation areas on one screen.

If you first need to prepare the cable, then look here. Further Based on the fact that the installation is finished.

How to connect devices by IP address

First of all, by right-clicking the mouse connected to the DVR, calling the context menu, in which we select the “Main menu” item and then entering the main menu of the DVR.

Select “Network”:

We need to change the IP address of the device. Let me explain why: the fact is that all multi-hybrid recorders have the default addresses 192.168.1.10 and the IP camera has exactly the same address by default, a conflict is possible. We go to the “network” menu item and change this address to say 192.168.1.9 or to any other free in the first subnet (the penultimate value in the IP address, immediately before the last point), done.

Then we return to the main menu and select the “digital” menu item and “Digital Channels” in it, after which it enters the digital channel parameters menu.

In the “channel” window, select the number of the channel to which we will bind the video camera, activate it by setting the kryzhik in the appropriate menu item and select the “add” menu item.

Feel free to click on the “search” button and, after a short time, admire the result of our work in the form of a time frame with the found device.

Go ahead, double-click on the line with the found device, after which its address and port should be rewritten to the top of the table, replacing the default value. The address 192.168.1.20, since the password on the video camera is not set by default, we leave all other values as they are.

Connecting multiple IP cameras to the DVR

Each camera and DVR must have a different IP address, but the subnet (the first two triads of values) is the same. If you have purchased several video cameras, then the connection to the recorder is carried out through a switch or router.

If it becomes necessary to change the IP address of the video camera, press the “network” button opposite the address by adding a device and enter your data. This is convenient, for example, when we have several freshly installed video cameras with the same address, so we use it if necessary without hesitation.

The only thing, after changing the device address, you need to re-name the new device address twice with the right mouse button in the window of found devices and make sure that the new data has been written to the top of the table.

We will assume that the addresses have been changed if necessary and the device has been added. We press the “OK” button and then it goes to the previous menu, where the added device already appears. Follow the above procedure for the next channel if there are several video cameras, or press “OK” if there is one. After that, the image should appear in the channels to which we added the video camera.

Connecting the IP camera to the recorder via a router

Perhaps the most common scheme for connecting IP cameras to a DVR. through a router, so let’s look at it. You connect the cameras and network recorder using patch cords to the router, supply power to the equipment, according to the declared characteristics. To view the picture, you also connect a monitor or TV to the recorder. In the case of organizing viewing using a computer or laptop, your device must also be connected to the router via a patch cord or Wi-Fi, if your router has the function of distributing a Wi-Fi signal.

Next, you should log into the registrar, by default login: admin, the password field is empty. Initially, IP cameras and IP recorders have the same IP address: 192.168.1.10, respectively, in order to avoid a conflict of IP addresses, first you need to change the IP addresses to the recorder. If the router supports DHCP function. automatic distribution of network connection settings to equipment, then in the “Network” section of the registrar we enable this function.

Your router will automatically distribute a free IP address, the same subnet in which the router is located, or in the router settings you can specify in which subnet the distribution will be carried out. Now you can add IP cameras, preferably also 1 piece at a time, to avoid IP address conflicts. We go to “Digital Channels” (the menu ed. May differ depending on the firmware).

Add cameras, click “Search”. The DVR will find your IP cameras even from other subnets.

On this topic, I propose to finish with the DVR (we will consider the rest of the settings in the near future) and go to a personal computer if you need to connect an IP camera without a registrar directly to a PC (to a network card or through a switch).

How to connect remote IP cameras to the DVR?

I was prompted to write this article after I was asked to help connect an IP camera to the DVR, located geographically far from the local network where the DVR itself is located. The task turned out to be non-trivial, but feasible. I think it will be useful for many if necessary to start all the cameras on one DVR, which is generally convenient. It turns out centralized control and viewing of cameras.

Initial data on equipment:

Point A

Point B

The task was to connect the camera from point A to the DVR at point B. In my case, these points were connected to the same provider, so I chose the connection method via the provider’s internal network. If the providers are different, then you will definitely need a static public IP address at point A, and the camera’s stream rate should be taken into account. In my case, this is 2 Mbps outgoing speed at point A. Therefore, if the camera is connected to a second provider, then connect the tariff so that the outgoing speed is at least. Corresponds to the stream rate of the IP camera. Otherwise, the picture from the camera will be terribly slow. To determine the outgoing speed of IP cameras, you should adhere to the following principle:

  • Fullhd camera. 4 Mbps
  • HD camera. 2 Mbps

And depending on the number of connected cameras, add the flow rate, that is, for example, you have two HD cameras, then the outgoing speed must be at least 4 Mbps. But you should always take a tariff with a small margin of 1-3 Mbit / s. Over time, the flow rate will decrease, since K. New video compression formats are developed every year. At the current time, the latest standard is H265, but it is still rarely used in chambers, in the new ones I suppose in some already.

A bit of theory what needs to be done. To connect a remote DVR camera, you need the following parameters: IP addresses, port, login, password and connection protocol. In my case, the Rvi port is standard 37777, the login and password should already be set in the settings of the remote camera, the connection protocol (in Rvi in the Russian version it is indicated as a manufacturer).

IP cameras connection is in Set-IP camera-IP KAM

In the picture above, you can see that a camera is connected from another network with an IP address of 10.156.137.80. Let me remind you that this camera is located in a different location, but the ISP is the same. In case the Internet provider is different or the camera is generally located in another country, then you need to buy an external public static IP address. I seem to have 10.156.137.80 and an external public static IP address.

Now, next you need to connect to the settings of the remote camera, set a complex password. And then to the router to which it is connected to make port forwarding. I will give an example of port forwarding from a mikrotik router. The topic of port forwarding to the DVR has already been discussed in detail.

In mikrotik you need to go to IP and select Firewall, then the NAT tab. T.K. The RVi camera works on the TCP 37777 and UDP 37778 ports, then below you can see the general picture of the settings.

And Action tab, the rest are not needed

And depending on the firewall settings, you also need to allow traffic from the Internet to the camera on port 37777. Below are screenshots of the settings without comments, because The topic of port forwarding has already been considered.

And in more detail this rule

After setting up the port forwarding of the remote camera, now go to the DVR and connect the remote camera (forgive the tautology, but I think it will be clearer this way). For convenience, I recommend clicking search for devices, select a camera that is already connected. After clicking change the connection settings of this camera, and there already register the IP address of the remote camera (in my case it is 10.156.137.80) and the password from the camera.

Click save and wait for about 10-20 seconds, after which the camera status will appear online.

Connecting the IP camera to the Internet: remote configuration via the network

On the territory of our country, modern video surveillance systems are used in many facilities. Previously, such decisions were associated with some operational restrictions, the need to attract expensive equipment and highly skilled labor. Now such devices have become more affordable and easier to maintain, they do NOT require a lot of steps when connecting. Therefore, everyone can easily figure out how to connect to an IP camera via the Internet.

Necessary equipment for organizing surveillance with remote access

Setting up remote site monitoring and managing all the necessary devices is not so difficult. Any user can cope with the project, even if his / her knowledge is very common. Networking involves the use of certain devices.

DVRs

It performs several main tasks, including recording information on various media, signal processing, recording. For registrars, access to the network interface is important, otherwise the information will NOT be processed according to all the rules. The interfaces themselves are software or server.

In the case of software varieties, special software is installed on the PC. Usually it comes with the recorder itself, on a disk. With the server interface, just open a browser to view the recorded files. Many manufacturers have developed extensions to simplify the solution of the problem. Their representatives tell you how to connect a Wi-Fi camera to a computer.

Local networks

The camera, router and recorder communicate with each other through this network. Let’s say a wired or wireless option for organizing such networks.

Routers, routers

This is the main component on the basis of which local networks are created. Connects existing equipment to external channels. Example. the Internet.

  • The IP camera itself.
  • Software for viewing recorded information from various devices, including mobile phones, tablets.

Interesting. Obtaining a static IP address is also a must. Providers themselves provide such information, but it requires a separate fee. You can use cloud storage to watch videos.

Connecting a camcorder

Connect one device for recording. the simplest option for organizing remote monitoring. In this case, the procedure is simple:

  • Connecting the IP Camera to a Personal Computer.

After that, in the browser, you need to type the IP address assigned to the device. Sometimes it is indicated on the accompanying stickers, in most cases the information is given in the user manual. Otherwise, it is impossible to figure out how to configure IP cameras for viewing over the Internet.

  • The network interface with settings appears in front of the user when he enters the desired address.

You must select the option to automatically obtain an IP address. Or, static information is registered manually. Login with a password for remote access is prescribed in the same part.

  • Specify separately the port through which they access the World Wide Web.

The most common value is 80.

  • When the correct address is specified. the camera is disconnected from the Internet, connected to a personal computer.
  • In the browser, you can watch the video using any device. It is enough to first specify the IP addresses, the port number itself is separated by a colon.

Networking with a router

A router is needed if the system includes several devices at once. This creates a separate subnet that has access to all devices. The tuning principle is very similar to what was already mentioned earlier. How to connect WI-FI cameras to routers, everyone will figure it out.

The router settings are included in the same way. You must assign your own port to each of the cameras that will work in the system. The most commonly used menu is called Routing. Thanks to this item, it is easier to translate external requests to different IP-addresses of the system.

The operating principle is characterized by the following description:

  • Its own external port and its own IP address are allocated for each of the devices in the system.
  • When the router itself is configured. go to each individual chamber. It is easy to configure each such device directly.
  • Each device has its own unique IP address. You cannot use the shared.
  • After a router settings connect each of the cameras. You can see the devices immediately after connecting.
  • To view the information, you need to use the request “static IP address: external port of a specific camera”.
  • Connecting the system with a video recorder. the same as described above. The wireless method works here too.

Important. Even when the system setup is correct. some users have problems with remote video viewing. The reason for this situation. frequent connections to cameras on the same network. That is, a request is sent from the IP address to connect to it. This is not a logical action, the device is NOT physically able to fulfill the request. Videos are viewed from second IP addresses.

WI-FI camera connection

Here, in the connection diagram, there are also practically comments on the differences from the previous options. Food nstvennaya difference. the need to use a special application to watch videos remotely. Usually vendors release software to resolve the issue. The program must be downloaded on the Internet, then. install on smartphone.

The camcorder connects to the phone through this program.

Interesting. If there is no way to stretch full-fledged wires. the option with a WI-FI camera will be convenient. Connection from a tablet or smartphone, even a laptop will allow you to quickly view the necessary records at any time.

How to find the IP address of a CCTV camera?

Without this information, the camera cannot be connected to the Internet. There are several options for obtaining this information:

  • From instructions.
  • On the box of the device.
  • Device sticker.

Sometimes addresses are prescribed only for a family, and not for a separate model. Then you need special software to accurately determine the characteristics of the camera. The best option. proprietary application supplied in the kit. It’s easy to enter it.

Angry FE Scanner. popular application for those who have problems implementing proprietary solutions. This development allows you to find out about the address of any device if it is connected to the local network.

One of the available options for solving the problem. using the command line. You need to use one of two commands:

  • Arp-a.
  • Ipconfig.

After that, the user will see all the devices that have been connected. Adjustment is no problem.

Interesting. You can first disconnect and then connect the camera to determine the address if other methods do not work. Correct address. the one in the connected.

Setting up an IP camera for viewing over the Internet

Any IP camera. it is a networked stand-alone device. Therefore, it is endowed with its own IP address, as mentioned earlier. Such addresses can be static or dynamic. There is no need for additional manipulations if the address is dynamic. And when the service designated as DHCP was enabled on the router. The assignment of this parameter occurs automatically after connecting the main working elements, then they take the cable. Then the camera itself appears in the device list.

But most devices have a static view by default. It is highly likely that the numbers assigned to the equipment do NOT initially match the range of addresses specific to the network. Then you need to change the designation. The laptop assumes the same rules.

Note! If you change the address, you cannot do without connecting to a computer.

First you need to find the Ethernet item, then go to the settings section. There the user selects the necessary combination of numbers for the IP address, which will be used in one case or another. In the corresponding field itself prescribed address and subnet mask. If necessary, you can delete any information in the settings.

How to open a port to access an IP camera from the Internet?

One more question. remote connection of the camera from the external network. To do this, you also need to perform several actions:

  • To do this, the user must know your IP-address on the Internet.
  • Usually the information is seen on the status line in the router. The connection goes through it. Another option. special services like 2IP.Ru.
  • On the router, you need to open a port that allows you to enter the video surveillance system from the outside.

By default, the web interface of the camera usually occupies port 80. The router interface belonging to a specific person can also be located there. But there is an easy way to resolve a conflict situation. To do this, they simply use a different port, because the devices have such an opportunity from the very beginning. After that, you can always connect.

Note! As an example. TP-Link camera interface. In the section with the settings, you must sequentially open the Network-Information items. Otherwise, the connection cannot be established further.

On the next page, a parameter titled HTTP Port Number should appear in front of the user. The value is 80. that’s where the default checkbox is. It must be rearranged in the input field and then any free port must be registered there. Let’s use the existing value 20,000. The changes must be saved, then the port number is added to the IP address to enter remote control.

The main thing. do not forget to visit the “Virtual Servers” section. In it, you also need to register the settings selected by the user for a specific situation. Otherwise, the connection will NOT work.

Demilitarized zone of the router. another entry option for those who failed with the previous solution. You need to find a section in the router settings, which is called DMZ. The function is turned on, put a tick in the appropriate place. After specifying the local IP for the equipment, save the changes.

How to connect to an IP camera via the Internet?

Note! First, you need to figure out whether the provider works with the so-called “white” numbers. This is important for further work.

There are two main types of ports:

  • The real ones, which are called “white”.
  • Virtual. Typically, this “gray” address.

White addresses can be specified for direct connection to the camera. Then the connection does NOT cause problems.

It is better to use special services to check the designation. Most providers work with real varieties. If not. then this is only a technical problem, which is easy to solve if you set the correct values.

If the issue with the address is resolved. all that remains is to open the port. By default, they always use the number 80. But it is better to replace this combination with any second number when setting up.

In the router menu, you need to find the “Forward” item. In English it is referred to as Port Forwarding. Several types of data must be specified here:

  • Camera IP address.
  • Port through which external connection goes.
  • Imports of the camera itself.

Note! It remains to check the functionality of the connection when any changes are saved. You need to specify the IP address and port of the camera by opening any browser. If the web interface appears. then everything is correct, the devices were successfully connected.

Programs for viewing videos from a tablet or smartphone

In this case, you will NOT need any Special settings for the device itself. The most popular are the following three applications, the question.

Supports both iOS and Android operating systems. It can work with 48 cameras simultaneously. Zoom function, convenient operation. main advantages of the application. Connecting the camera through it is as simple as possible.

Works with several cameras at once, combines them into groups. The application supports recording information on the media. Images can be easily scaled if desired. For quick access, updating the current information, it is allowed to install the widget. About 700 camera models supported.

  • Tinycam Monitor Pro.

Supports up to 16 cameras simultaneously. Even work from cameras with Multiple brands is supported. Multi-screens. Thanks to Convenient management, settings are quickly transferred from one device to another. Data is written to the medium directly from the program. Images support digital zoom. It doesn’t matter which registrar is used.

Note! Works with any IP-cameras around the world. an interesting feature specific to applications. It will be especially easy if there is no login with a password in the device.

Video surveillance on cloud services

The main difference. sending files directly to repositories located on the network. From there the view is admissible at any time. To enable the function, the P2P camera itself or the recorder is sufficient. Device settings are displayed in the corresponding menus.

Services with video storage are paid, free. The main thing. to keep a static IP address.

The basic principle of connecting devices to the Internet remains unchanged. There are only small nuances that differ in certain manufacturers. If done correctly. the system begins to operate immediately after the completion of the main manipulations.
