How to connect Hikvision camera to computer

How to install and configure the DVR

Customers who have bought cameras and a recorder often do not understand how to connect and configure them themselves. Although it is not at all difficult, and so you do not have to pay for a call to a specialist.

So, let’s try to tell you in a simple and accessible way how to set up the DVR.

Let’s look first at Turbo HD (TVI) cameras and DVRs. There will be two options:

1. Connecting the camera to the recorder, and then to the monitor (viewing video only from this monitor):

connect, hikvision, camera, computer

2. Setting up for viewing from computers on the local network and Internet access. This means that you can watch the video from any place where there is a PC and the Internet, even from a mobile phone:

Before the whole procedure of connecting with the DVR, it must be unscrewed (at the bottom there are 4 screws on all models, and on some more 2-3 screws from each side at the attachment points of the rack corners) and place the hard disk there, connecting it with the wires included in the kit (also like a computer) and put it back together.

After unpacking the camera, we see three screws with dowels (it’s understandable why) and, in fact, the camera itself with two plugs. The first is connected to a 12 v power supply (unfortunately, it does not come with the camera). Second. to connect to the registrar. for this we need a coaxial cable and two BNC connectors (not included).

Using three dowels, we install the camera in a suitable place chosen for it and stretch the cable to the recorder.

The coaxial cable for each camera must be stripped on both sides. In a nutshell: there is a copper core inside the cable, we cut off everything that goes on top of this core (insulation, braid, second insulation) to expose it by 5-6 mm.

The most convenient way to do this is with the help of a special “clothespin knife” (a cutting tool for a coaxial cable), well, or an ordinary cutter (a clerical knife, just be careful).

We will mount BNC connectors to these cleaned places.

We use quite convenient BNC-spring connectors.

Next, we untwist the BNC connector and see a very simple picture there. there is one small screw, which is screwed perpendicularly into a copper tube, into which we insert our cable core.

We unscrew this screw a little, insert the core and clamp the screw back, some metal “ears” appeared on top of the cable insulation, we squeeze them with pliers so that the wire is securely held in the connector. The cord is ready.

We connect one side of it to the camera plug using the “insert and scroll” method. Turning the pommel of the connector, we securely fix the plug in it. We also connect the second side to the DVR in one of the 4/8/16/32 sockets, under which it says “video in”.

The situation is much simpler with network registrars. IP cameras are connected to the second connector with standard Ethernet patch cords with RJ.45 plugs on both sides to the switch, like the recorder itself. We will not describe how to make such patch cords, such information is very common on the Internet. If the switch has PoE (power over Ethernet) or such a switch is built into the recorder itself, then you do not need to connect power to the first connector of the camera.

However, with an NVR (network recorder), it is not enough just to connect the cameras to the switch or to the PoE interfaces of the recorder itself. they need to be registered in it, a link on how to do this will be given below in accordance with the procedure.

Next, we connect the 12 / 48v power supply unit (which is included in the kit) to the DVR into the socket labeled 12v or 48v, respectively. Connect the mouse (included) to the USB and connect the monitor to the DVR using a VGA cable or HDMI cable. You can also connect to the Turbo HD recorder using a coaxial cable, where on one side there is a BNC connector, and on the other RCA (tulip), a TV.

In order to understand. how to set up a DVR. you need to turn it on first. At this point, the DVR may start beeping (beeping). This can happen for a reason if you forgot to insert, for example, a hard disk into it. We will tell you a little later where to find the cause and how to turn off the annoying beeping.

So, we activate the device by entering the password for the admin user. Upon request, you will need to enter a password that you come up with. the harder the better.

The user must enter the administrator password. You need to come up with a password yourself and it must contain from 8 to 16 characters. The password should be carefully memorized or written down in a safe place, as the procedure for resetting it is extremely time-consuming and laborious!

After entering the password in many registrars, for ease of maintenance, it is suggested to enter a graphic password, but there, I think, you will figure it out.

then there will be a question whether to launch the assistant?

In this window, be sure to uncheck the box next to the “Run the assistant when you turn on the DVR” item, because we will definitely not do the setting every time. But you can use it for the first time. click “next.” and windows with basic settings will appear on your monitor in turn.

After that, there will be a window with network settings. For normal operation, not only the IP address and subnet mask must be registered, but also the gateway and DNS. What it is and how it is determined, we will not touch here either, because such information abounds on the Internet, the main thing is to understand that the registrar. it is the same computer as a regular PC or laptop in terms of network configuration.

It is enough to get automatic settings from the router (server) by ticking the “DHCP” box, but for this, the DHCP server must be set up in the local network (most often it is turned on either on the Internet access router or on the corporate channel server).

Next comes the cloud settings. Nowadays it is more often called Hik p 2 p Cloud. not EZVIZ.

Here you can leave the default settings, only enable if you plan to view cameras from the DVR from mobile devices.

Connection ports. In this section, the ports for network access and settings for access via DDNS are registered. We recommend leaving all settings unchanged.

Next is the turn of the hard drive, in this window it can be seen, identified and formatted.

Initially, hard drives are shipped unformatted. If you install a hard disk that has already been used, it is still recommended to format it. To do this, you need to click the “Initialize” button.

After that, there may be other windows or series of windows for setting depending on the model of the recorder, for example, the series “Enable RAID, Manage arrays Manage hard disks” (but then instead of the previous one)

or the series “Search and connect IP cameras from the online list, Camera recording settings, Copy recording settings”. For information on how to do this, see the article “ How to Add Camera to NVR “.

The next setting window. The recording mode will appear only if the series of IP cameras from the online list has not been provided. In this window, you can enable recording for all channels by motion or continuous. Most often, users choose motion recording to save hard disk space. In the basic settings, the archive includes a segment of video that starts 5 seconds before the start of movement in the frame, and ends 5 seconds after it ends.

This completes the initial setup of the registrar, and the assistant will be closed. The image will change to a quad screen, which may not have any cameras displayed if it is not a DVR.

Let’s go back to the sound signals of our DVR, right-click

go to “main menu” → “config. system” → “warnings” and see their options (causes of beeps). lack of HDD, etc., There are three types of alarm notifications in total: sound, SMS, email. Uncheck / put the checkboxes from the “sound signals” and click “apply”. Set up other notifications in the same way.

Main menu

warnings

If our NVR or we want to connect some number of supported IP cameras to the DVR. then you need to register these cameras manually in it. How to do this, see the article “ How to Add Camera to NVR

After completing the connection of cameras, click on the “Live View” button in the lower left corner of the screen and go to display.

Connecting analog video surveillance to a computer

Analog cameras are connected in the same way as digital cameras. During the creation of such a surveillance system, you need to use an analog recorder, and there is also another connection method, which we will consider.

In the second version, the video camera must be directly connected to the PC. this can be done using special video capture cards. They need to be mounted in the system unit. Typically, such a block has 4 or 16 outputs for connecting cameras of an analog class. This method is suitable exclusively for a computer, but it is impossible to apply a similar method for a laptop.

Another great connection method is to use a USB converter. This method is the simplest in terms of implementation and is compatible with all PCs. They are quite compact and plug into USB ports. All data will be recorded on the hard disk of the computer, at this time viewing online is possible only if connected to the global network.

Diagram of connecting a digital video surveillance camera to a computer

The CCTV camera must first be connected to the DVR. You need to be careful, because the video camera must be fully compatible with the video recorder. Today there are recorder models that can function with equipment of various formats. At the same time, by connecting to the recorder, the user can connect a different number of cameras. from 1 to 32 models. Coaxial or LAN cables can be used during connection.

Each variety can guarantee a decent quality signal up to 100 meters away without the use of transmitters or amplifiers, and no interference is generated. At this time, the twisted pair can significantly reduce the cost of the surveillance system. In a single cable, 8 intertwining cores intersect. Similarly, you can connect up to 4 CCTV cameras using a single cable. For a distance of up to 50 meters, transmission is carried out without compromising quality. If the distance is over 100 meters, you need to use a dedicated transmitter when connecting to a PC.

The video recorder works through a remote connection, so it is possible to connect a computer, tablet or phone. There are two ways to connect a computer to a video surveillance recorder:

  • via LAN directly at the facility;
  • via the global Internet.

From a computer, the user will be able to view not only the online broadcast, but also view the archive in which the information is stored.

How to connect a security camera to a computer?

Sometimes there are situations when difficulties arise when connecting a CCTV camera to a computer. The need to connect to a computer is quite justified, since from it it is much easier to view everything that happens at the facility, as well as to configure the equipment. Let’s consider with you the basic rules on how to properly connect a video surveillance camera to a computer without disrupting the functioning of the video surveillance system.

Connecting IP Cameras to Computer

These security cameras are designed to connect to the Internet. Consider several types of connecting wired and wireless models. They can be combined with a computer in a convenient way. via a computer or wireless Internet. This method will be an excellent solution if the equipment is located at a great distance from each other.

Another popular way to connect is using a wireless Wi-Fi network. This method is convenient to use if there is no way to lay a cable for the purpose of transmitting video signals. If you use IP cameras and a network range of up to 100 meters, then twisted pair is used for connection. if you need to lay a longer distance, then a fiber-optic cable.

How to connect a security camera to a computer?

Modern video cameras can be connected to a PC, monitor (or TV) or to a server room. When accessing video from a PC, you can not only view video clips recorded during a video surveillance session, but also copy the necessary video clips to any of the media, be it an optical, hard disk or flash drive, as well as transfer it over a local network or upload it to the Internet. And these are far from all the possibilities that a video surveillance camera offers us, working both separately and under the control of a centralized video system.

CCTV cameras have long become not just a necessity in the office, but also an important component of the house or in the country, for example. The purpose of CCTV cameras, like any security system, is to reduce losses to the owner of the facility or completely prevent an act of offense.

How the camcorder connects and works?

The devices themselves transmit the captured media content over the local network. Ethernet cabling is coming in as a low-cost and versatile solution. It can be used outside the local network. with a high-speed Internet connection. The simplest solution that excludes the purchase of a separate DVR is a home PC or laptop. But for the launched video system to work, you cannot do without a dedicated IP address.

It is not enough to acquire an IP camera and a computer. to install a video line, you need at least a coaxial (if the video camera is analog) or Ethernet cable (also called twisted pair, category 5e), as well as a power supply from which the video camera will receive power, an additional outlet nearby. connectors (with their help the video signal cable is connected to the camera and PC).

To hide unnecessary devices and the line from prying eyes, it is necessary to use an existing installation box in which other engineering IT communications of the building / house pass, or lay a separate box (at least self-tapping screws and dowels for them are required). preferably at a height unattainable for unauthorized people, for example, behind a false ceiling or under the floor or in a baseboard.

If you own an IP camera that does not require a coaxial cable, you can, after installation, plug it into a free LAN port of a Hub device, router or a server patch panel located nearby.

For wireless cameras equipped with Wi-Fi, high-speed Bluetooth-module or modem (external or built-in) 3G / 4G, installation of a signal cable is not required.

The cable connection of an IP camera is outdated today. It is used only in special services or at other facilities where the regulations prohibit the use of local wireless or cellular networks. All private companies and most government offices have switched to Wi-Fi due to the low cost and ease of deployment. To connect cable video cameras, you may need an additional video capture card, a TV tuner, a USB-HDMI / VGA converter, or a full-fledged video recorder.

How to connect a camera to a computer

Connecting a webcam today can serve a variety of purposes, depending on the needs and imaginations of a person or company management. Speaking about the most common features of webcams, there are a few main points worth highlighting:

1) one of the settings allows you to use this device as a motion detector. Its task is to track the movement of certain persons in the field of view of the device;

2) no less often, the camera connection is used to transmit audio and video signals over computer networks. Such a function is needed in cases when there is a great desire to communicate “live” with friends and acquaintances in other cities or countries;

3) in some cases, the need to connect the camera to the computer is caused by the desire to restrict access. There are a lot of options to implement this function, ranging from ordinary monitoring of each person who comes and ending with systems that are fully automated.

In addition to the above functions, a webcam can serve completely different tasks, such as recording video images and then posting them on the Internet. We will tell you in more detail how to connect the camera to a computer. So, first of all, you need to install the device in the place you want. To do this, usually use a monitor or the area under it. This will make it possible to not turn your head towards the camera during online communication. Next, find the USB connector in the system unit. In modern models, it is located on the front panel. Now take the cable attached to the webcam and plug it into this connector.

Before connecting the camera to a computer, inspect it again: very often the device is equipped with an additional cable, which is designed to connect a microphone. This wire must be connected to an empty slot located in the computer‘s sound card. However, it should be remembered that in old models of sound cards there are no options for switching the channel operation mode. If it has a special port for connecting a microphone, then you need to use it.

The next step on how to connect the camera to your computer is to install the drivers and software. They are usually supplied with the device. If these files are missing, then you need to visit the official website of the manufacturer of your webcam. There you need to open the downloads section and download all the programs that will be needed. Thanks to such actions, your device will work stably, and you can always change its parameters.

After completing all the above operations, how to connect the camera to the computer, the latter needs to be rebooted. To check if the device is working, use any of the programs designed for two-way video communication, for example, Skype. Check the camera microphone separately. Its sensitivity can be configured using standard operating system tools or another program. Make active the function that removes external noise.

If you are interested in how to connect a video surveillance camera to a computer, then follow the same steps as with a webcam. However, some video systems can be connected using a switch and a regular network cable, so before purchasing a device, you should consult with a professional about the best connection method for you. After the device is connected, the computer, automatically detecting this, will ask you to install the drivers. This must be done by inserting the disc supplied with the device and double-clicking on the installation file. As soon as the program is installed, a shortcut will appear on your desktop, by clicking on which you can launch it and make all the necessary settings. Next, the program will ask you to specify the folder in which all videos will be saved in the future. It is better to install a separate local disk to store such files, since there is a lot of information, and if the system is infected with viruses or other errors, it can be encrypted.

In this case, it is recommended to connect the device to an AC adapter, as the battery may not be sufficient to use this function, and the camera will run out faster than usual.

You need to install the “tulips” of the cable in the connectors that are not on the motherboard, but on the interface panel of the video card. After that, you need to select the composite mode, and then turn on the camera. Before that, the whole process must be carried out with the device disconnected.

Then it will be enough to open the installed program and continue the configuration in it. In this case, they usually adjust the image resolution, use the zoom, and also turn on the white balance.

UDP: Real-time video and audio streaming.

HTTP: the quality is the same as when choosing TCP, there is no need to specify specific ports for streaming.

MULTICAST: Select MCAST type when using the MULTICAST function. See section 7.1.1 TCP / IP Settings for details. “Multicast” sends a stream to a group of addresses, allows multiple clients to receive a stream at the same time. Before using this function, the Multicast function in the router must be enabled.

  • Display quality (from the options offered in the menu).
  • Rules: can be turned on or off to display or not display colored markers when motion or intrusion is detected. If rules are enabled and face recognition is enabled, when a face is detected, it will be marked with a green rectangle when viewed in reality.
