You can often hear the question of how to connect a rear view camera to a radio tape recorder. This is due to the increased demands of motorists for comfort. And also, with some features of the bodies of modern cars. In pursuit of improved aerodynamics, the design of cars is becoming more streamlined. Which is not very good for the driver’s view, it became especially difficult to move in reverse. Therefore, many manufacturers provide for the installation of rear-view cameras on their cars.
This allows you to park safely in almost any conditions. True, not all cars have these cameras. But, it’s not scary. Even a not too experienced car enthusiast can do such a revision with his own hands.
How to connect a rear view camera to a radio tape recorder? Several good ways
Connection
Many car enthusiasts make the mistake of supplying constant power to the camera. This leads to a rapid failure of this device, which is not designed for trouble-free operation. Therefore, the best solution would be to connect to a reversing light. In this case, when you turn on the reverse gear, the camera turns on and displays the image on the screen of the radio. When you switch the mode, it will turn itself off. All this happens automatically without the participation of the driver.
Cameras can be connected with or without wires. Consider the features of wireless cameras. They have a transmitter that transmits a signal to a receiver located near the radio and connected to it. The only difference between this type of cameras is the absence of wires running through the cabin.
The camera is connected as follows:
- First, connect the device to the rear light. To do this, you need to take the black (minus) wire and the red (plus), and connect them to the corresponding terminals of the lamp. The easiest way is to insert into the wires going to the terminals. Just remember how to insulate the connection;
- For wired cameras, the yellow wire is lengthened and pulled through the cabin. This is usually done in the salon, but some craftsmen simply add it to the regular harness. On wireless versions, a transmitter is connected to it;
- The connection to the radio is via the video in output. In general, the work on connecting the rear view camera to the radio is completed.
As you can see, there is nothing particularly difficult in this work. Be careful when connecting the camera to a power source. It is extremely important here not to mix up the polarity. Otherwise, you may burn the purchased equipment. And if at that moment you have a radio tape recorder connected, then it is likely that it will also fail.
Car preparation
Many modern cars have a special recess for a rear view camera. This is the easiest option to install. In all other cases, you will have to tinker with preparing the place for installing the camera. The most commonly used 3 installation options:
- In place of the room lighting lantern;
- Bumper insert;
The first option is quite simple. But, at the same time, the illumination of the room decreases, which can cause problems with the traffic police inspectors. Installing the camera in the bumper takes more time but is more efficient.
To mount the camera, it is necessary to cut a hole in the bumper, which is sufficient for the “eye” to be displayed. This device is fastened most often with self-tapping screws. Sometimes the camera manufacturer provides a different mounting method. You should find out when buying a camera.
Installing the camera in the trunk lid is a little more difficult. It is important not only to cut a hole here. But also do it as carefully as possible. At the same time, do not forget to treat its edges with anti-corrosion substances, which will help to avoid problems in the future. This installation has several advantages. One of them is a larger viewing angle, which makes it possible to control the movement back more efficiently and reliably. Also, the location of the camera at a higher level allows it to stay clean longer, which makes it reliable in the conditions of autumn-spring thaw.
Customization
Connecting a camera is not too difficult. But, for its normal operation, additional settings are still required. Before adjusting the camera, turn on the ignition to apply voltage to it. The setting is made as follows:
- Turn on the radio tape recorder in the “settings” mode, then find the camera section, and go to it;
- Select the value “back” from the list;
- Use buttons and joystick to adjust Focus according to your ideas.
- This completes the installation and setup of the rear view camera.
Front-camera. In addition to the rear camera, you can also install the front camera. For greater effect, it is advisable to purchase a front camera with a wide viewing angle. Then she will help you out not only in the parking lot. Due to the peculiarities of the location and a large view, you will be able to safely enter the road due to any objects restricting your visibility.
Connecting to a radio tape recorder
Once you have connected the camera to the vehicle’s electrical network, route the video cable (yellow tulip plug) through the passenger compartment and secure with electrical tape. It is important that the yellow wire is not pinched or caught in the fastener. Usually the length of the video cable is 3 to 5 meters, which is enough to lay it in the most inconspicuous way, even in a large SUV.
Helpful! If the length of the cable is not enough for you, it can be extended with another cable of the same type.
Next, we connect the cable to the tape recorder. To do this, first read the instructions for the radio tape recorder, although the principle is the same for most systems, some may still differ in their configuration. Also in the document you will find the specification of the ports, their markings and the location of the input connectors. Usually it is enough to connect the other end of the “tulip” to the corresponding “Video in” socket.
A typical camera connection diagram is presented above. On most car radios that have the function of connecting a video camera, in addition to the video input, there is an additional wire for activating the inclusion of the radio in the mode of displaying the video image coming from the video camera. This wire is designated as “Reverse” or “BACK”. Activation is carried out by applying a positive (12 V) voltage to this wire. To this end, the manufacturers of video cameras complete their products with a special wire that has, in addition to the wires transmitting the video signal, one more wire (red, in the diagram it is designated as “P3”). One end of this conductor is connected, together with the 12 V end of the “P2” connector, to the supply conductor of the reversing lights, and the other end to the additional wire of the radio tape recorder.
If we are talking about a wireless camera, the connection principle is the same as described above, with one difference. instead of a yellow video cable, you will need to connect the included transmitter to the “Video in” port. This completes the installation of the rear view camera, the video of which you can watch at the end of the article. But, do not rush to assemble the interior trim, first you need to check that you did everything correctly.
Preparing to install a rear view camera
In order to connect the device to the car radio, you first need to install the camera itself. Therefore, the first step is to disconnect the positive terminal on the car battery. This is done as a precaution to avoid short circuits and subsequent fires in the wiring. Or just disconnect the entire battery.
After that, look in the trunk and determine where the camera wiring will be. Usually the wires are pulled along the existing ones. The “peephole” itself is most often mounted in the bumper or above the license plate in its illumination or in the very frame of the license plate. In the front of the passenger compartment, several panels also need to be removed. For example, you will have to disassemble the dashboard and dashboard so that you have access to the electrical wiring.
Advice! It is not recommended to install the camera inside the passenger compartment on the rear window, as in this case the picture will be “blurry”.
Power to the camera comes from the reversing light, this is a necessary condition for the device to turn on as soon as you start to back up. The fact is that rear-view cameras, unlike DVR cameras, can work no more than 1 hour during continuous operation, after which they must be turned off. This is quite logical, because the main purpose of these devices is to provide visibility while parking, and not during the entire drive.
If you want to organize a tandem in which the radio tape recorder will interact with the rear view camera, then it will not be superfluous to make sure that the audio device is equipped with the necessary LCD monitor.
When all the preparatory work is completed, you can proceed to the installation.
Checking and configuring the camera
In order to check how successful the installation and integration of the camera into the radio tape recorder was, connect the battery, start the car and engage reverse gear. If an image appears on the car radio, it means that you did everything right. If the picture is missing or poorly displayed, try the following:
- go to the radio menu in the settings;
- find the section “cameras”;
- find the camera in the list;
- adjust Focus and other parameters of the “eye”.
How to connect a rear view camera to a radio tape recorder
Once upon a time, not everyone could become the owner of a car, and if music could be heard from the open windows of the car, then its owner was considered a successful person who earned crazy money. Today, a private car is not a symbol of luxury, but a convenient means of transportation that almost every family has. Technological progress continues to simplify our life, and now a radio tape recorder with a rear-view camera, pactronics or a “smart” on-board computer do not surprise anyone. These tools allow you to reduce the risk of collision on the road or while parking to almost zero.
Rear CCTV camera is considered to be the best tool for quick or difficult parking. It is usually installed above the car number and connected to the screen in the car. The car monitor for the rear view camera can be integrated into the mirror or be independent. The last option is not very convenient for several reasons. Firstly, to connect the camera, you need a wireless module or a special adapter with an RCA connector. In this case, the signal will be triggered with a delay of 2 seconds. Secondly, the presence of another gadget in the car is not pleasing to the eye. That is why now more drivers prefer to connect a video device to a car radio.
Connecting a rear-view camera with your own hands in this case is not difficult, but if you doubt your skills, then contact a car service, where this service will be inexpensive. If you still want to do everything yourself, then first you need to prepare.
Installing a rear view camera
Regardless of where the cameras are mounted, almost all of them are connected according to the same principle. To work you will need:
- screwdriver;
- fuse 0.5 A;
- maybe a soldering iron may come in handy;
- screwdrivers and keys;
- sealant (can be replaced with glue);
- insulating tape (can be replaced with regular tape).
At the first stage of installation, the camera “eye” is installed. Some cars have seats for them. If there is such a hole, then you need to pull out the plastic plug from it and simply install the video sensor there. If there is no seat, then a prepared drill or electric drill will come to your aid, with which you can make the necessary hole in the bumper. After the “peephole” has taken its place, it must be fixed with glue or sealant.
Next, we pull the wires from the camera into the trunk and connect the negative wire (usually black) to the mass of the car. This can be done using any bolt. The positive wire (it is usually red) is powered from the power cable of the rear light. Also remember to connect one end of the yellow wire to the camera.
Important! When connecting to the rear light, a 0.5 A fuse must be used.

Fuses should be selected based on the capacity of the device you are installing. Take your time, carefully fix the wires and their connections with electrical tape, then your video system will work smoothly for a long time.
First stage of installation
In order to connect a rear view camera to a Pioneer radio, you first need to install a surveillance peephole. This is done the same for all vehicles. In modern cars, “seats” are specially equipped for this purpose. If you find such a hole in your car, it will be enough to pull out the pre-installed plastic plug from it and insert the video sensor you purchased.
If your iron friend doesn’t have such a hole, don’t be discouraged. You can do this yourself. An electric drill or drill will come to your aid. Having drilled the corresponding hole in the bumper of the machine, insert the “eyelet” of the camera into it, securing it with glue or sealant. Now you need to properly stretch the wires from the video camera itself to the trunk. In this case, take the black wire and run it towards the ground of the machine. It is very easy to do it with a regular bolt.
The positive red wire must be powered from the tail lamp cable. And don’t forget to connect the yellow wire to the camera itself. When connecting the camera to the rear light, be sure to use a pre-prepared fuse.
How and where to install it
Later in the article, we will look at how to install a rear view camera. There is more than enough space for installing a video camera in the car, but we need the most advantageous position. The camera’s eye must have a good view, which is not limited to any part of the machine. Any camera will reach its full potential when installed in the most advantageous location.
In our case, such a place is a niche above the rear bumper of the car, the camera should be located in its upper part above the license plate of the car. What it does is viewing angles, your car radio will only show the road and not parts of your car. But you need to arrange it so that it does not get too hot, but does not stick out either. However, there is a downside. your camera is accessible to dirt and the hands of others. If you place it inside the cabin on the rear window, then the trunk will take up half of the screen, the viewing angles will decrease and the image quality will suffer to some extent due to the glass. But then it will be clean and inaccessible to outsiders.
Connecting two parking cameras
Sometimes drivers equip cars with two cameras at once: rear and front view. There are several possibilities for this:
Force camera activation
Sometimes the driver needs to turn on the parking camera without engaging reverse gear. This algorithm is implemented by supplying power to the camera not through the reversing light, but directly using a button or toggle switch.
Usually, the possibility of turning on the camera at the same time as reversing is refused. But if you connect the button and flashlight through decoupling diodes, both functions can be used in parallel.
Checking and setting
After completing all the work, you can connect the car battery and start the car. Now reverse gear. If an image appears on the screen, then you have done all the work absolutely correctly. If not, then experts recommend doing the following:
- select the “Camera” section;
- configure all its parameters.
That’s all. The installation process is complete, which means you can enjoy the work done for good reason. Whether or not to install a rear-view camera, each driver decides for himself. In this article, we’ll show you how to connect a rear view camera, and it’s up to you whether you need it or not. Connecting a rear view camera requires certain knowledge and skills, so not everyone can do it on their own. But if you nevertheless decide that you need to install a regular rear view camera, then use the tips from this article. With a small set of tools and basic operating skills, you can easily figure out how to connect a rear view camera. Side mirrors and your head turned 180 ° will not give the desired effect, some little things, or maybe not little things, you still will not notice. And then a disassembly may begin with the owner of the scratched car, and this can cost you tens of times more than connecting a rear view camera. Later in the article, we’ll take a look at which camera you can choose, whether a Chinese manufacturer is right for you, or if you prefer something more solid. We will also discuss whether it is possible to install a rear view camera with your own hands, and how to properly connect the device you have chosen.
Features and characteristics of parking cameras for cars
When choosing a parking camera, the following features are taken into account:
- camera design (construction),
- standard video display format (mirrored or standard),
- way to connect to the monitor,
- viewing angle,
- photosensitivity,
- dynamic infrared light marking.
Sequence of work
- Disconnect the negative terminal (body) from the battery.
- Determine the location of the camera installation according to the criteria of the maximum view of the space behind the car and the secrecy of the device from prying eyes.
- Let’s consider how to lay the wire from the reversing light and the video cable to the radio tape recorder to the selected place of camera attachment.
- Whenever possible, choose where to connect the wires in the connectors, avoiding joints.
- Determine the route of laying near the remaining on-board wiring harnesses, focusing on the minimum labor costs for dismantling and restoring the passenger compartment and trunk lining.
- Route the video cable and wires along the intended route without securing or routing them under the chassis.
- Free up access to the connectors of the radio and taillights.
- Assemble the wiring diagram of the camera to the radio tape recorder.
- Connect the battery, check the operation of the circuit by the presence of a picture from the camera on the monitor.
- Elimination of deficiencies during normal operation.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- If necessary, drill a hole and install the camera. Loosen fasteners or completely remove trims obstructing the wiring.
- Route the wires under the casing.
- Reconnect the circuit connections that were broken during cabling.
- Check the operability of the camera by the picture on the monitor without fixing the wires and the case.
- If there are no flaws, disconnect the battery from the case, fix the wires and restore the casing
Check and adjust the parking camera
- Turn on power and reverse gear. A mirror image of objects behind the car and a dynamic marking line should appear on the monitor screen.
- If there is no picture, check the reliability of the contacts and the condition of the wires.
- Pay particular attention to the quality of the crimp on the connector pins and other connections. Check the image on and off depending on the position of the gear lever.
- If there is no mirror image or markings, consult the manufacturer’s instructions and enable the options. Rate the picture.
- If necessary, adjust the position of the camera, direct it so that the monitor displays the entire area necessary for safe maneuvering.
- Do not forget or have an assistant mark the location of the dynamic cue lines on the ground.
- Measure and write down the real distance from the car to the marking marks, which will be useful in the future when operating the car.
A reversing camera is a useful addition to your standard vehicle equipment. A small device helps to avoid big troubles. DIY is easy to install and the benefits are clear. Today, the car is not considered a sign of luxury, but a common means of transportation. If earlier not everyone could afford such a toy, now almost all families have an iron friend in the garage or in the parking lot. If ten years ago the music playing in the car showed the status of its owner, now you will not surprise anyone. After all, modern technologies do not stand still. They become more and more advanced every year. Motorists can only keep an eye on them. So, now an on-board computer or a rear-view camera are very convenient devices that not only make life easier for motorists, but also reduce the risk of accidents and road accidents. A rear view camera (you can read how to connect to a radio tape recorder in this article) is a very convenient and practical device.
In terms of cost, most depend on the manufacturer. KZV can be wired and wireless, a lot also depends on this. The price is assigned not only for the brand and type, but also for the functional features, as well as the quality of the device. On average, the cost of KZV on the market is as follows:
The last thing a driver wants to do is damage the car while parking on a busy street. Especially if it’s someone else’s car.
And the truth is, no matter how experienced the driver is, there is a subtle little thing that will cause trouble. In such a situation, a rear view camera comes in handy. It significantly improves visibility and avoids unpleasant excesses.
Today, many cars are equipped with this useful gadget, especially the premium segment. But early models lack this function, which means there is a reason to pick up a tool.
How to connect a rear view camera to a Chinese radio tape recorder today will be discussed.

Ways to connect two Chinese cameras to the radio tape recorder
There are models on the market for two-zone monitoring of the vehicle space. front and rear. This solution allows you to register possible emergency situations on the road, and to record the state of the car in the absence of the owner.
Connection and configuration is carried out in the following order:
- the on-board network of the machine is de-energized;
- the front camera is mounted on the rear-view mirror holder;
- mount the back;
- for aesthetics, connecting wires are led to the head unit under the interior trim;
- if the head unit has two Video In inputs, connect the signal wires to them. In the case when the kit has its own recorder, choose the place of its installation, connect it to the network and cameras;
- we check the connections according to the installation diagram, turn on the battery;
- configure the parameters of the cameras.
It remains only to test the system in motion and, if necessary, make corrections.
Sometimes it happens that one of the cameras does not provide adequate coverage of the space in front of it. The way out is to purchase a “Fish Eye” patch. It acts as a wide-angle lens and widens the angle of view.
Checking and configuring the camera
To make sure that everything was done correctly and that the short circuit voltage of the type is working in normal mode, it is necessary to check the operability of the device. To do this, connect the battery, start the car engine and engage reverse gear. At this moment, a picture should appear on the display of the radio, if so, then everything is installed and connected correctly.
If there is no image or poorly displayed on the display, do the following:
- Go to the car radio menu and select “Settings” or “Settings”.
- Then go to the submenu “Cameras” or “Cameras”, depending on whether the audio system is Russified or not.
- Then in the existing list you need to find your camera.
- Using the settings, adjust the focus and other settings of the KZV eye.
After completing these steps, you can customize the system to fit your needs.

But, do not rush to assemble the interior trim, first you need to check that you did everything correctly.
Diagram of connecting the camera cable connectors to the car radio
When the preparatory work is completed, the cables are laid, you can proceed to connecting all the components of the system.
A standard connection cable consists of two parts:
- yellow. signal;
- red. food.
Please note that voltage wire colors may vary on different models.
The connection of the video signal is carried out through connectors of the “tulip” type.
The standard method for powering and activating the camera is through the reversing lights. The principle of operation is as follows:
- The red wire is connected to the lights, the black wire. to the car ground.
- The signal cord, through the trunk in the passenger compartment, is connected to the radio tape recorder through the Video In connector.
- When reversing is engaged, a voltage appears on the supply wire of the camera, which activates it.
- The radio tape recorder detects the signal on the input channel and switches to the image broadcast mode.
Very often, the radio is connected via the ISO connector. In this case, you should familiarize yourself with the connection pins and find the video input.
The second connection method allows you to activate the surveillance system regardless of the reverse gear. For this, 12V is supplied to 2 wires. red and blue. The first is connected to the ignition switch, to the key1 position. ACC. The second is supplied to the reversing lamps.
With this method, the system will operate in two modes:
- when switching to reverse gear;
- in key1 and key2 key positions. Ignition, which corresponds to the on-board network switched on and the vehicle ignition.
Some models of radio tape recorders require manual activation of the shooting mode in the “settings” of the device. After activation, you should check the work in different key positions, especially in key2.
The next step is to adjust the radio itself, namely focus, sharpness and light sensitivity. Different systems offer a different set of settings, so configurations are individual.
Tip: It is important to observe strict correctness when connecting the wires. In order not to be mistaken, it is recommended to assemble the system on a table and configure it. When connecting the supply components to the vehicle network, protect them with fuses.
Installation process
- Remember that all electrical work is carried out with a de-energized on-board network. Therefore, it is necessary to disconnect the battery.
- First, the camera is installed, in particular the peephole, depending on the design features of the car, a place may be provided for this element. If it is, then it is only necessary to dismantle the plug and install the peephole there. If there is no space, then you need to drill a hole in the bumper and fix the peephole in it with silicone or glue.
- Then the wiring from the device is laid in the luggage compartment, the negative terminal should be connected to the mass of the car, for this you can use a regular bolt. The positive lead connects to the optics wire that turns on when reverse gear is activated.
