Mountain Lion: How to Change Webcam Resolution

I recently received my first MacBook Pro. I would like to change the resolution of the built-in webcam, because my daily GoToMeeting goes through 1-2Gb traffic and there is no discount for my GoProvider for my connection.

The GoTo software has settings to change the resolution. How can i do this?

Apple (or a third party) should write a utility to let you dial in the internal resolution of the internal camera, but as far as I know they are not yet available.

You can work around this by combining the output from your webcam into another program that processes the camera stream and “re-publishes” it on your Mac as a virtual camera (also called a pseudo camera) that will be available for use in other applications on your Mac.

This is how I did it. I tested this solution under OS X 10.8. It also works under OS X 10.6. (I’d bet this probably works in 10.7 as well.)
