Let’s try to understand the validity of these beliefs.

The main question that often comes to mind for every person who chooses an IP surveillance camera is the obvious discrepancy between the number of megapixels in CCTV cameras and, for example, smartphone cameras.

Therefore, the question may arise: “Why Samsung made a new smartphone with a 13 megapixel camera, and Axis announces a new line of CCTV cameras with models of one megapixel and even 0.3 megapixel (640 480), while such a camera is sold NOT cheaper than the aforementioned smartphone”.

The first reaction in this case, as a rule, is an indignation of the type: “Yes, I better nail my smartphone with an anchor to the wall, it will be cheaper for me and there are more megapixels here”.

Therefore, it is worth understanding the essence of the issue. how many megapixels are needed to obtain a quality image. After all, this is exactly what the task of building an effective video surveillance system comes down to, namely, to obtain an image of the necessary areas of space with sufficient detail for analysis.
